Just finished replacing the fuel filter located inside the fuel pump. Was not looking forward to this job because there isn't much room to get at the fuel pump on my 2010 Mercruiser. After I get my hand near the pump I can't even see what I doing so it's all by feel. The first problem was the smaller gasket would not stay in place. Applied a bit of grease and it stuck in place. Putting it back together was a nightmare. Tried for about a half hour with no success. Had to think of a way to get this done. So I hung the bail on the engine side of the pump. I then attached a rubber band from the other side of the bail to a hook on the wood next to the pump. That held the bail in place. I then could push the bail down and place the filter bowl in place. I then let the bail rise and it had just the right tension to hold the bowl in place. All I had to do then was to remove the rubber band and attach the bail to the pump. Worked first time. Mcgiver would be proud.

Hey I just starting working on the fuel system on my 3.0 Mercruiser. It doesn’t have a water separator. That piece underneath the pump is a filter.. I just had to install a separator in between the tank and the mechanical pump. There’s also a screen just before the fuel inlet on the carburetor. It’s a 5/8 and 3/4 fitting.. bunch of sand and stuff i there.

I think this may be helpful to me. I'm trying to drain old suspect fuel from a 3.0 Alpha Gen2. I need to blow into the tank, and out of something else. This looks like a good place to start. Will also change the filter while I'm down there.

I just was given a 1987 wellcraft with a 165hp mercruiser engine. Is there a fuel shutoff valve for these engines? I’m working on getting the engine running and either I have no spark or gas not making it to the carbs.

GMan Viking Right on. I actually sold it as is and the new owner called me and said the spark plugs and the distributor cap were bad along with the pump for the fuel.

I used a mirror and a pillow to almost stand on my head and got it done. My filter looked really clean. Might want to replace the starting solenoid if it is still out of the boat and it looks old. When’s that boat going to hit the water?

MrCalifornia1234 Yeah not an easy task with the engine in the boat! It's running and floating now! We took it out a couple weeks ago to the Delta.

My pump doesn't have a carter stamp but that was the gasket that was in it, does it work for other pumps too?

That way makes it easier when the motor is still in the boat?

Accelerator pump in the carb, or maybe idle mixture way too lean would be my guess.
