    After seeing all these Jordan pre-NBA games and highlights from college and even the Olympics, i have NO idea how he was not chosen first pick in the draft.

    • @Incorrect3211
      @Incorrect3211 10 років тому +36

      Houston needed a center so they chose Hakeem the dream. The trailblazers already had a shooting guard (Clyde Drexler) so they chose Sam Bowie a center. Chicago had the 3rd pick and undoubtedly chose Michael Jordan.

    • @goodfellabeats
      @goodfellabeats 10 років тому +65

      James Buttersworth Bob Knight said a GM who had a lottery pick ahead of the Bulls (he didn't say which one) asked him who they should choose in the draft. Coach Knight said " You gotta take this kid Jordan" the guy said "But we need a center" Bobby Knight said, "Well, play him at center" Lol.

    • @HOUS3ofHO
      @HOUS3ofHO 10 років тому +16

      James Buttersworth
      Houston already had Sampson. Although Sampson was naturally a PF and plays more like an SF, he definitely could play C. So Houston could have picked Jordan. I dont know what would have happened to Jordan's career at Houston with Sampson succumbing to his injuries...
      All credit to Olajuwon for an excellent career thus justifying his being picked over Jordan.
      Portland already had Drexler but he was still an unfinished product. Drexler averaged 7.7 pts in 17 minutes in his rookie year. Portland could have picked Jordan and traded Drexler but obviously they saw something in Drexler and they were correct, Drexler ended up being one of the greatest players ever, it;s just that Jordan ended up as 10x better and became the greatest.player of all time.

    Jordan alluded to it with that Nike commercial years ago, but it's so true. Jordan was not born the GOAT. He was born with the ABILITY to be the GOAT, but he was not born the GOAT. He had to work tirelessly. If you study his game here until the 1990-91 season where he won his first NBA championship, you'll see that he kept improving each season. He worked his ass off and got every ounce out of his natural abilities. That's why he ended up as the GOAT. Hard work and drive.

    Like your editing, Adam. Good job, mate. I do hate old VHS audio. As a fellow collector, you know it's more common to get a game with buzzy ass audio. I've learned to use the program GoldWave to debuzz VHS audio as much as possible. When it's as loud as the static in the game above, it's almost impossible to get rid of it without stripping away sharpness from the commentary though. When you use noise reduction, it affects everything like chemo like kills both good and bad cells.

    This video was from 1984, the NCAA didn't adopt the 3-pt shot until 1986. The line when they adopted it was 19 ft 9 inches.

      That was the year they universally adopted it. The ACC, along with a few other conferences tried out the three point line in earlier years.

    Still mind-boggling that the Blazers chose Sam Bowie over this guy. Textbook example of how much a team can screw up by drafting based on position rather than on talent/upside.
    (And of course, the Blazers did it again 23 years later, when they took Oden over Durant.)

    This game is a perfect example of why I don't understand people who say Jordan didn't have a good jump-shot early in his career. He could definitely stroke, but he was too smart/hard working to settle for jumpers. Instead, he used his insane quickness to get the basket and score in the paint.

      If you're talking about him being cut in highschool, that was more because he was way too small as a freshman. The next year, he'd gained two inches and like fifty pounds of muscle. Never got cut again.
