11-8-1984 - Michael Jordans 7th career NBA game and first game in Madison Square Garden. Showing his athleticism, Jordan provides many highlights on route to 33 pts, 8 rebs, 5 asts.
Even in his rookie year he is and was tbe most spectacular and dominant player in the world. He is arguably the greatest athlete in the history of sports.
Eric Gold ...As a rookie, Michael Jeffrey Jordan wasn't the most dominant player in the world. The latter also wasn't the greatest athlete in the history of sports. Air Jordan was one of the greatest basketball player of all, not the greatest. Take a deep breath, and stop exaggerating.
@@brucescott4261 it’s far from an exaggeration, that Jordan is arguably the greatest athlete in HISTORY.
Easy
Not arguably...undoubtedly.
@@potentially__9445 delusional
1st time at the garden and he already has the crowd dazzled with his game.. MJ GOAT!
He would go on to be one of the goats.
Jordan's form and execution is so superior its simply amazing to witness. Even in his first few games as a rookie, he demonstrated complete mastery over the game. 🐐
Yes he did
Love Kobe..but........................................ . ............ . ..........
@@jasras5003 I know...
Shocked at how well Michael conducted himself in his interviews. The GOAT no doubt.
How dare u u racist
✔Michael Jordan - The First point and the Last point in the NBA
ua-cam.com/video/jfRCLwa7X7E/v-deo.html
Jim Johnson ...Michael Jeffrey Jordan was twenty-two years old at the time, and a grown man.
@@brucescott4261 Compare him to the 22 year old's of todays NBA its a stark contrast.
Minus a few "you knows" and "uhs" his sentences flow very well.
Michael Jordan was unbelievably quick and fast when he came into the league, WOW
No wasted movement
Lana Gorgeous ...Shooting Guards are usually fast. However, Point Guards are extremely faster.
A rookie plays like this?
It's amazing that MJ had only played in the NBA for about a month and the opposing team's fans were already cheering for him.
one thing I love about MJ is that he is a very articulate person, even in his rookie year..
Man went to college n paid attention lol
@@husslegroovy2513True. But I believe being raised well plays more of a part in overall demeanor and the way a person is trying to come across.
Still I understand where you are coming from. College likely opened his eyes to his enormous business potential and that played a HUGE role in his image building which we all know starts and sometimes ends with a pro athlete's interviewing skills.
@@frankjum thats why kobe went back to school. Hehehe.
YOUR IGNORANCE IS SHOWING
I remember watching this game. I was ALL about Bernard being a Knick fan. Why they hype this Jordan kid so much.......... I suffered from this point on!
After the game, Benard King said this about Michael Jordan:
"The people in Chicago are going to be in for a treat!!!"
From day 1 he looks like the best player in the NBA. Dominating on both ends of the floor, THE G.O.A.T
WILT IS THE GOAT!
Wilt got dat ass beat by russell like every time. GOAT my ass bruh!
@@copyrightstrikez_bandit143 Wilt dominated Russell but the Celts dominated Wilt.Thats the real truth.
True
@@ram0666 ...Bill Russell and the rest of his teammates stopped Wilt Chamberlain, PERIOD!!! There's no such thing as a one-man team, which is why Air Jordan didn't get to the NBA Finals until 1991.
Jordan was really intelligent even here as a kid. Not jus articulate but obviously understands the game and how it related to him.
He's humble as well.
Chuck Daly - "Jordan's literally embarrassing the league, He's that good!!!".
No one drives to the hoop in a more graceful fashion. It's sport, but he turned it into an art. I guess that's why we are still watching these video clips.
MJ is so ahead of of his time here
Jordan was a beast from the 1st year to the last year. Always gave 100 pct. Deserves all the props bestowed upon him by fans and analysts that know the real deal when they see it.#The Goat.
Well said.
33 pts, 8 ast, 5 rebs, 3 stls, 2 blks! And half a dozen highlights.
But, he didn't get a double-double in this game.
"i'm gonna be the best player I can be..." great job
He sure did when he was drafted by the bulls.
Kobe's MVP season:
28.3ppg, 6.3rebs, 5.4assts, 1.8stls, 0.5blks, 45%fg
Jordan's rookie season:
28.2ppg, 6.5rebs, 5.9assts, 2.4stls, 0.8blks, 51%fg
Lulz.
massdagod MJ is the GOAT
There is no comparsion to MJ
@I Am King lol
Dumb comparision. The league was easier in the 80’s vs the year Bryant won. And stats don’t mean everything. The results do.
@@vika0194 the league keeps getting softer, not harder. The rules, blatant disregard for violations, all set up to make scoring (all stats) easier. That's why scoring is at an all time high. You might say it's because of the 3 ball. But in the 80's a touch after the release was NOT a foul. And there was no rule for giving a player a place to land, so you could actually defend the 3.
people didn't realize what they were watching and experiencing
#thegreatestever
I honestly did. I knew he'd be an all-time great before he ever played his first nba game.
Hey slim I told my son that @ the time I honestly didn’t know I was watching what we consider the goat. I 1st seen him when I was 12 against my Hoyas & I seen the shot but I didn’t know he would become who he was.
Listen to the crowd cheering when Jordan makes a play. They realized that they were watching something unprecedented.
They knew he would be the legend for the bulls.
Even as a rookie he was unstoppable. I grew up watching LeBron, but the eye test really does show who is the GOAT. Jordan's moves are one of a kind and he was all over the floor on offense and defense throughout his whole career.
"What a shot by Mr. Jordan. I have a feeling we're going to say that a lot in the next 15 years."
That humble young man in the pre-game interview. That's another brick in the wall of his GOATness.
Just hang time is amazing he truly had gifts from the most high
RIP Orlando Woolridge
A good Player and Fearless Dunker.RIP
Jordan’s skills, movement, and creativity looks so natural, like it’s effortless. NO ONE is his equal!!!!
His skills were magical to see on the basketball floor.
BEST PLAYER IN THE NBA SINCE DAY 1
DOMINANT BOTH END OF THE COURT !!!
He was dominant at scoring.
@@hectorlopez1069 He was dominant all around: Offense and defense.
His words & his game are why a player should go play at the college level.
MJ would turn the MSG into a Roman Colosseum.
mikem987 well said!
New York Times recap:
History will note that the Chicago Bulls, leading for all but 1 minute 40 seconds last night, routed the staggering Knicks, 121-106, before a crowd of 19,252 in Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks lost their sixth consecutive game, but overshadowing that was the first regular-season New York appearance of Michael Jordan, the phenomenal rookie of the Bulls.
Jordan left the crowd aghast. He scored from over, under and around the basket, as well as from the outside. The 6-foot-6-inch guard did it with dunks and nifty drives.
By the time he snatched the ball from a helpless Ernie Grunfeld and dashed for a flying one-handed dunk that gave the Bulls a 23-point lead at the end of the third period, the crowd was standing, voicing approval for nearly a minute. Jordan, who played 33 minutes, finished with 33 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.
The home team crowd cheering for the opposing rookie.🤣. How could you not. He is fucking ridiculous. By Faaaar the best to ever slip on laces!
Rookie Jordan talking like a grizzled veteran at the end lol! I love it! Dude was ahead of his time.
Watching these replays only reminds me how lucky i was to grow up in Chicago and watch the BULLS win 6 chips!
thnx again for the videos and memories
Hi there, any chance you have ticket stubs from any of those games? I would love to buy some from you!
9:22 The Classic "dunk contest" in game dunk!! Legendary!!
I think I've seen that dunk on the commercials in the 90s.
wow! he was wearing Jordans in practice in 1984! They didn't hit the market until well into 85. *bought them as soon as they did/when NO ONE else had them.
Wow jordan was very well spoken
Racist
6:14-6:22 This man is a prophet
The last prophet that God=Lord Jesus chose was John The Baptist.
I love to watch this old footage of Jordan from his young days
His young days of wearing white shoes.
@9:24 that dunk is legendary..that dunk could be used in a dunk contest..the way he cradled that ball and flew in the air is amazing..he was so fast and he jumped high and floated in the air..it's incredible how he pulled this dunk off and he also did this dunk while a player from the other team was chasing him.
for him to steal the ball and run with it while the other player is chasing him and for him to do that dunk while being chased is absolutely amazing!
agree. theres a reason you've yet to see ANYONE do the "rock the cradle"(name of the dunk) again! even these new high flying dunkers today can't do it because you have to have immense upper body strength and control(something MJ obviously had). also, you have to catch the rim AS YOU'RE FALLING! thats why mj stumbles every time he did the dunk, truly the GOAT!
I try to be the best basketball i can...
Mission accomplished..
He is the goat.
My aunt in Chicago saw him very early on in his career at the arena there...
She didn't really know a lot about basketball then (& probably still doesn't, tbh...) I was very young but I remember her saying to the family, though, after seeing a game...
"I just saw something tonight & I couldn't believe my eyes at first"...
"The Bulls have a basketball player now, that looks like he's suspended in mid-air when he jumps!"
I just thought...'Yeah, she's probably talking about 'Air Jordan.'...Haha!!
Knick fans get a taste of MJ. The taste becomes really sour in the 90s for em.....
That’s the truth- always lighting it up at Madison square garden.
My god he is amazing wow!!!!
I keep replaying 8:42 Will never be another Jordan
MJ is the 🐐!!!
Wow, this low camera angle is really cool. Makes if feel much more like you're actually in the stadium.
You are right. But its not easy to get used on it ☺
Or, in the front row.
I was at that game that boy was flying.
Yes, especially since in high school and college.
Lucky!
@MANCHESTER UNITED F.C Who asked?
How old were then?
@@goodvibrations6 28
I loved these old MSG games, with the very level camera angle.
very humble he is the real GOAT
Olajuwon and Jordan were the best basketball players of the 1984 NBA Draft. Both of them, winning championships for their teams.
This could be the first time somebody said "Air" Jordan ever. 7:32
I think so too. The man said it the first time.
Jordan best player in the world
The camera angle Old Skool MSG, #23 G.O.A.T🏀
He wanted and is ok to be in chicago to make it a winning city, amazing! He stayed loyal , true genius of the game :)
Jordan is so far above everyone else it's a joke. And I mean of all time.
Ben Jammin I see you conviently left out who he schooled in return. You haters kill me😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ben DC4L you’re delusional
@Ben DC4L Not top 10 are you kidding me? He was rookie of the year, SMFH. Here comes another barber tale from a meth addict.
Ben DC4L not top 10 ? Jordan finished 6th place in MVP voting as a rookie....out the gate he was already a top 5 player in the NBA possibly top 3....he finished 3rd in ppg behind Benard King and Larry Bird.....Bird was the MVP that season and his numbers was 28.7ppg 10.5rpg 6.6apg who been in the league about 5 years and a rookie MJ averaged 28.2ppg 6.5rpg 5.9apg....Just because he didn’t have that great team from jump don’t mean he wasn’t a top 10 player already because he was so much better than majority of the NBA as a rookie and by 3rd year was already the best player in the league and we may as well say his second year because he sat his entire second year out besides the playoffs....he was by far the rookie of the year
Ben DC4L stop hating bruh
That dunk @ 9:24 is the most beautiful in game dunk ever
This kid will be a star someday :)
Really fun watching early GOAT. Already clearly phenomenal player. Another thing I personally enjoyed was listening to Jim Karvellas, who sort of introduced me to the NBA as the voice of the Baltimore Bullets in late sixties-early seventies. I’ll always remember listening to him doing Bullets (Earl Monroe and Gus Johnson) vs. Knicks (Walt Frazier and Willis Reed). “BULLSEYE” was his trademark expression. Of course, he later became voice of Knicks (and the Pearl went there, too, sadly). One of the best basketball play-by-play guys ever.
Jordan's game was ART.
4:53 man that layup tho...that was fire
Just fast forward to 9:23 The legend of "Air Jordan" was born kids.
b7k1l8yn totally agree, a mega star was born at that moment
He did the rock the cradle earlier in the year when he was still at UNC versus Maryland. I think it was in January of that year. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/jqwVTE4k-SM/v-deo.html

I understand Hakeem no1 pick, but man MJ no3... lol watching his first game i could say he is the beast.
The year they kept trying to nickname him "Captain Marvel"..😂🤣
Glad that didn't catch on Lol lame af
Mister Jordan
Finally dude said "Air" Jordan at the 7:32 mark. That could be the first time ever.
Damn I remember that shit... I used to get mad and scream NO! its Air Jordan
@8:20 BERNARD KING WAS TRYING TO REALLY PLAY DEFENSE ON MIKE COMPARED TO EARLY IN THE GAME WHERE HE WAS JUST TESTING MJ ON HIS OFFENSE.
I don't why they compare LeBron,to JORDAN no comparison! Maybe kobe but JORDAN is the MAN!!
Best athlete ever!
Very very very very rare and thinking about it right now, rookies are never the best player in the league…. There’s a learning curve…. Michael Jordan as a rookie in his first game was already the best player in the league
Its cool seeing a rookie Jordan showing some love to Bernard King. BK was absolutely legit. The Tracy McGrady of his time. "I think hes an outstanding player. You learn a lot playing against Bernard. You can't really stop him. You just have to contain him"
MJ said he was a Lakers fan but he thinks he couldn't help them
Jordan didn't wear no Jordan 1s here, but rather the real "BANNED" shoe that was black red instead of white red here: The Nike Air Ship.
lmao
I will accept those individual awards with greatness.
Excellent video.
I know this comment may never be seen on a 12 yr old video, but that play at 8:30 when Mike broke King down and hit the most beautiful turn-around jumper shows all you need to see how far ahead MJ was as a rookie. Simply unbelievable. We’ll never witness anything again like GOAT23.
The commentators are funny, "They've been entertained!!" I was in the garden that night and when Jordan had the break away dunk, the whole arena cheered for him.
I was fortunate enough to live through the 6 NBA championships- after left the second time, I hardly ever watched basketball anymore. Wish I could find all those MJ cards I had collected.
this camera angle is nice!
+Justin Guinn i wish they would keep the camera angle like this now a days.
whole different experience.
ADRIAN H they probably don't to earn income from those seats
One of the best in game dunks you’ll ever see...
Could you imagine Jordan being drafted to the Lakers.....
Or the blazers, him playing with Clyde Drexler. But, the blazers did not want that.
Micheal Jordan good rookie season with bulls all skill as great player and good teamate
And the guy was just a rookie!!!! Please stop the GOAT debate. I always said it is just a joke to compare him with anybody; especially today's players. Imagine mj with today's technology, personal trainer, treatment, recovery drugs that lebron and kawi take, he would averaged 50. Mj didn't start lifting weights until he was almost 30!!!
Jim Carvelis comments about Jordan are prophetic. Butch Beard knew what he was watching too. Goat
This game is a highlight reel. TY for this
Jordan ist THE best of course
One of my favorite Jordan performances ever. So exciting to watch! Sometimes I wish I could go back to that mid-1980s era (even though I wasn't born until 1999) just to see Jordan play haha! 🤩
Rip Orlando Woolridge
He went and got that alley oop!!
2012! Damn! I never knew.
Treasure trove of early great Jordan. Really first great NBA game.
6:15 SOOO Prophetic!!!
6:36 young boy touched greatness
i find this to be the definitive video to understand Michael Jordan. this game, this first season. scoring, steals, blocks. FIRST season. the word was circulating around the league about Jordan. another thing that very interests me is how articulate Jordan is . wow, did he change that much later ? Jordan - at this stage - comes off as super-human - a kind of sentiment or label that seemed possibly appropriate many years later.
0:32 the black/red air ships look REALLY close to the banned 1s we know today...only diff the toebox and back wasn't red!
Nice catch!
they are cheering for a rookie opposing player. His 7th game and thats what he was???
