  • Very possibly the most beautiful piece of wood I have turned.
    A chunk of Black Walnut that almost did not get turned.
    Finished with Deft spray on lacquer and Acks abrasive paste and sanding paste.

    I started to view this video while at Chicago Midway Airport and just finished viewing this morning in the comfort of my easy chair. That's a nice chunk of walnut and it turned out beautifully.
    My cousin in Michigan has many walnut trees on her property and can only imagine what I could do with all that wonderdul wood.

      I need to get a picture of the tree that this came from. A GIANT Black Walnut tree on a farm about 25 miles from me.
      The people(my nephews in laws) were offered $10,000 for the tree and just laughed.

    My wife and I watch every video you put out. She ignores some of the technical stuff, but once a chisel touches wood you have her complete attention. YOU are in our top 3 I will not say were but Phil is in there too and Jim from Sprague Wood Turning. Jim unfortunately has an edge being a fellow Canadian, an fellow New Brunswicker, and he is military to boot. He was actually some places I was and I may have even met him many years ago and I don't know it. But THIS bowl WOW it is 100% my wife's and my favourite of every thing we have seen you do. I had a play list set up that have all the wood workers, Carvers, and turners that we liked and I put all of their past content into that play list and when there is nothing on TV we would put that on and watch it for hours. Then the next day I'd remove everything we watched and start again that night. Beats the hell of anything on TV now a days as far as I am concerned.

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank you very much Steven and I am happy to be on your list. I would think Phil should be #1. He is in my book.
      Well Oregon is not that far south of Canada LOL. And I was in the military as well. Back in 1967 so most likely you were not where I was. I sure hope you were not.
      I found that if you want to get a good nap in just turn on the TV,

I see that next year’s American Association. Symposium is in Portland. Do you plan to be there? I would certainly like to meet you at some point. trying to make plans with my wife to come to the symposium as well as take a week or so to tour of the beautiful state of Oregon.

    What an outstanding piece and fantastic coincidence in the similarities between the 2 pieces of walnut. Great work period! I'm heading out this morning to pick up some 4 inch deep walnut. It might not have the interest or inclusions, but at least it will be a clean piece of timber and a depth that's not that common around here.
    Great project for just a quick one.
