@@StarkMaximum That was in fact a reference, yes. It's fun when people make callbacks to old content that fans will get, which was what I was saying I was anticipating when I saw that he was opening the set with Surge.
I started playing again during Dragons of Tarkir but only really started drafting right at the end of Origins, so cards from this time period are drilled into my mind.
If I understood it correctly, they gave up on Regenerate when it turned out describing what a creature does with an ability that involves bringing itself back from dying, in the specific terms the comprehensive rules demand, because of the interactions between permanents and cards, is much harder than just saying it can come back from the graveyard under this and that condition or whatever they do now.
So the Oath bundles had full art lands, including Wastes. I believe the non-full art’s were maybe in the Deckbuilder’s Toolkit or some other ancillary product in that timeframe.
Yes, we were greeted as the best card from the set! At least now we know they're not playable in standard when we show up at Cameron's U-Brew Standard warehouse and sift through draft chaff
Non-full-art Wastes were in fact not in the fat packs (as bundles were called at the time) but only found in 2 out of the 5 intro packs. OGW Fat packs having full-art basics was the reason for expensive preorder prices (at least it wasn't as bad as BfZ fat packs).
Those first 3 cards are a heck of a story. (Maybe I'll just expedite my crab. With 5 toughness, there's no way they can kill it and I'll get them for 1 point and draw me a card. [Declares attack] YOU HAD ONE WHITE FOR THAT? ....)is that....a good trade? Lost your blocker but hey ate their spell?
I hope regenerate gets brought back like phasing has. I feel like it's not so complex that current magic players would struggle with the concept and occupies a neat space on its own
I still find it baffling how WotC doesn't make basic lands full art by default. With the exception of the flavor text on basics from AFR and the SL meme lands, I see no reason why a less than half the card should be devoted to a mana symbol 🤷♂
Re: Searing Light, Piercing Light having scry 1 and hitting a lot of relevant X/2's in Crimson Vow is probably where these effects shine best. Even still, it feels underwhelming to run main deck.
My problem with Devoid is it's useless in exactly the context that a lot of players would want it to be useful, which is... being able to play it in EDH with an Eldrazi in your Commander slot. They still HAVE a color identity, which is the pip cost. "Counting as colorless for things that care about colorless" is fine and I understand why they didn't want to print a bunch of those cards in straight colorless, but the actual implementation left... something to be desired.
6:25 Yup, you also did the joke about summoning the judge everytime Surge/Serge was used.
That was all I could think of when the mechanic was mentioned. "I will surge" "Yes?" "Not you!" :P
I so much wanted Serge to pop into the recording when Graham read "Surge!" on Jwar Isle Avenger with such gusto.
just so long as it didn't get him so excited the video would crash
Do you remember the video Graham references, that was released in 2016?
Go watch that video. They literally already did that joke.

Same here, started with fate reforged.
I suppose "+2/-0" is functionally equivalent to "+2/+0" so I can't say he's wrong....
I was thinking literally the same thing.
When you said “Surge” my mind immediately went to that Friday Night’s episode. Just rewatched it the other day, absolute classic.
The crab running back at the end really got me! Thanks for the continued excellent editing Matt!
Boy, folks sure do give neat packs at Fromagefest. Also, I do love the return of _fast crab_ at the end.
If you got time for gab, you got time for Crab.
This is me shouting at Matt as requested. HELLO MATT! GOOD EDIT! Thus concludes the shouting in Matt's direction.
"Steppe Glider, I've got stuck in the reflecting pool again!"
Saddleback Legac is one of my favorite card names to say out loud. Thank you Graham and WOTC.
If i recall correctly, Unnatural Endurance was the last card in a standard set with Regenerate

Yo Graham how could you not remember the Oath of the Gatewatch episode? It has one of the best Gib jokes ever!
So the Oath bundles had full art lands, including Wastes. I believe the non-full art’s were maybe in the Deckbuilder’s Toolkit or some other ancillary product in that timeframe.
So for some reason the crabs skittering across the bottom of the screen got me real good lol.
Gotta Go Crab
Oh man, Oath of the Gatewatch! I opened an expedition Strip Mine at the prerelease and did some very rude things!
What is this menace ability it sounds a lot like menáce.
Watch that gate!
The crab at the end got me. Take my like you brilliant gents.
I had way too much fun at the idea of a crab with haste since the crab going fast means you get to turn it sideways.
If you've got time to gab you've got time for crab.
I only WISH I was a Saddleback Legac! What a GREAT name for a card.
I love when I get called a Saddleback Lagac

The crab at the very end hahaha
Oh yeah, Hissing Giggity. That was in one of my decks at the Oath of the Gatewatch prerelease. Good times, I finally got to be that guy.
Wastes are my favorite. I have a full land station of the kozilek full art ones
Ancient Crab, Expedite it, draw Spatial Contortion, laugh in Eldrazi Crab "fwg fgw fwg fgw"
Love the crabby easter egg at the end there!
According to Graham, I'm a Saddleback Lagac, but I have human eyes.
I said, "Ooo!" the same time Graham did at the rare reveal.
I like the glider . Flying is great
Oath of the gatewatch was the first pack I ever got. Didn't know how to play at the time, though.
Oath, the original Wingdings! Set. How I miss those Wasted days
They should make a deck with all of the card they picks at the end...
Thank you for giving me my most valuable birthday gift, being called a Saddleback lagac.
Expedite is a house in the Zada deck.
Always expedite your crab if you need Priority Snipping.
Spoiler: Expedited Crab goes bye while Graham says "Goodbye!", I laughed out loud, thanks Matt.
10:12 OK.... "MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Damnit, why didn't you get Serge to show up, Graham! You even said his name!
Time for Crab
I mean, an inst-ANT does sound like an insect
I feel like Expedite was put into the set as a good cast for Zada
Reading the card explains the card
When is Serge going to play a surge tribal commander deck on Friday Night Paper Fight?
What are you doing Steppe Glider?
Until he pulled the land my mind was the waste will be the most expesive card in the pack
I hope regenerate gets brought back like phasing has. I feel like it's not so complex that current magic players would struggle with the concept and occupies a neat space on its own
Engagement for the engagement god!
No Surge/Serge+coffee joke?
I still find it baffling how WotC doesn't make basic lands full art by default. With the exception of the flavor text on basics from AFR and the SL meme lands, I see no reason why a less than half the card should be devoted to a mana symbol 🤷♂
@Jojoforpres It stinks 👌
HI MATT!!!
I did my best to shout "at" him
Saddleback Lagac for engagement!
Fast Crab! :D
Re: Searing Light, Piercing Light having scry 1 and hitting a lot of relevant X/2's in Crimson Vow is probably where these effects shine best. Even still, it feels underwhelming to run main deck.
excuse me, "saddle back legaks" what
Let's go, Jace!
Soft G, Graham; Fromage-fest.. portending some sort of cheese celebration? I'm making this up as I go along.
It feels weird seeing a pack of Oath of The Gatewatch and start remembering when MTG was good. Even if Oath wasn't the best set.
Crack! A! Pack!
MATT!!!!!
Always fun an uninformative! Thanks!
No views? But it's Thursday Crack a pack!
people are distracted witching the kamigawa release trailer
@@Yakmage wait, that's out!??!
Wait there are Friday Nights seasons?? I know the first 4 are separate from the rest, but where is that episode season 5 episode 1?
Not my real Glider
I drafted this set a lot... It's not very good.
what a god awful block return to zendikar was...

That seems more like an issue with the way color identity is defined (which is not defined by wizards) and less about the actual wording of devoid.
Green was *so* bad in this format.
