Southern is amazing and clearly took this one but JSU wasn't holding back these are two great bands 👏🏾 .
jackson state is just like txsu ,pv ,and all the rest of the bands .They have no range everything is play bunched together they have no seperation OF sound . the Juke Box is way to advance for these bands .TxSU Ocean now have a chace to compete with The JUKE BOX because the nnow have MR. BRIAN SIMMONS!!!!!!!!!!!

Not necessarily true. There are ALOT of SU haters in Louisiana. When that dumb ass TC came to town, they thought they had somebody that could take down DA KANGZ. Shit ain't happen. If J-state was bringing some legitimate drama to the table, TRUST ME, NO Bandheads will let it be known.

Good excitement and intensity all around from both bands...its expected, heck, its JSU and SU...this is what makes the swac a league of its own...good battles make for good memories...when ur old as i am (marched 99' AAMU)...you grow from a stage of talking smack to appreciating all the good of EACH band in the swac..

Even after su kinda messed up the way murdered the song and turned toward state more than made up for it...like it never happened based on crowd reaction...V’s State couldn’t recover from their massive mess up
I had to come back and watch this battle again. After Southern finished playing their opening intro song @03:56, JSU heard the intro of the next powerful song and said "Damn, here these MF's go"! "Man we in for a long ass night!"

I marched in the Jukebox from 87-91 (Baskin, Johnson were the primary arrangers of music). We were no where as big in terms of numbers as today's band but were just as loud. SU has ALWAYS had ear shattering sound. I mean HD/Stereo wattage hence "Human Jukebox", kicking on 8. Haymer and his staff has done a hellava job though. Some of those arrangements are flat out ridiculous. Good battle by both bands.

Thank God Brian Simmons found his gift and is sharing it with the world. I love his arrangements. Nothing short of amazing. I'm not gonna say who won or who lost but I will say that I appreciate that Southern throws in songs to show all the people who like quiet that they can be quiet and play beautiful soft music. It sounds great when they do, but this isn't a symphonic concert so those of who want them to play every song like that is being unrealistic. I just want people to stop lying saying that SU doesn't know how to play with different dynamics. They gave you a taste now back to the CRANKING!!!!. That's what we do. And when you called the JUKEBOX, you betta be loud. Just like if your name is the BOOM, you betta come with that BOOM! IJS

I feel that southern was winning during the first couple of songs, but as the battle went on, JSU stepped up and the battle became a matter of personal preference rather than "which band did a better job at what". Both bands sounded great.
With that said, I preferred SU's performance.That doesn't mean JSU was any worse, I just preferred SU's overall sound.
Forget bcc. These are the heavy weights of black college bands right here. Kudos to both schools for putting on a successful event.
I like JSU version of stretch my hands better then Southern.

I played baritone, section 4 years at Texas Southern. So I'm speaking from experience as well. I'm not saying there is no truth into what you're saying, I'm simply saying that's a lame excuse to give. They knew a game would be followed by a battle like that. But that's why you prepare. Just like the power was there (and they were indeed loud) the articulation and skill should have shown up also. All I'm saying.

Southern is a crowd pleaser... Southern had the crowd advantage... Southern loud but... Blah blah blah. For decades this band has been and always will be top notch. They set the bar and other bands try to reach. The only band I know that has a long track record of being themselves would be FAMU they fell off in 2010. No matter how boring people said FAMU was the had a massive sound and quality. Southern is a powerhouse and a monster all to themselves. Ask yourself the question how many bands you know when they have to play Southern skate or take it easy the week before they go to the game. They bring their best, they practice harder and overall try their very best because they know the sound that's coming across the field.

All I have to say is JSU is 1 of the best bands when it comes to battling SU. But if they wanna ever beat SU they need a new band Director. Im not saying hes a bad guy, but these new band directors that SU got bringing it.. You can say the band hot. But the band directors arrangements and not blasting every song brings balance to their music. Like it or not, not taking anything away from the great Doc. Or Mr. Knighten... but they left the band in the right hands. Because these dudes with these new ears bring that fiya....

Being born in Bastrop Louisiana and having a mother who attended Grambling St one would think I should be a GSU fan. But I've always loved southern!! Their quality of music is second to none!! One matchup I always like seeing is Tennessee State vs Southern University. They never disappoint. My favorites SU, TSU, NC A&T, GSU and FAMU when they ain't fucking up and killing people!

Once again, this was a performance of pure preference... It was a showcase of the two bands. I do not see any win or lose here, and naturally SU fans are going to state that SU won, and that is not so... SU could have been pissing in buckets, and folks will still claim they won... Loud and screaming fans doesn't constitute a win, it constitutes entertainment. Plus, this battle was in New Orleans, total bias... Yes, SU has amazing power, but yet all they deliver on is being loud to the mob's delight... Musically, JSU delivered in overall tone, balanced, and true signatures to each song they placed. SU definitely fulfilled in the area of intensity and crowd appeal, hence the design of the battle... However, I did observe both bands hiccups... On another note, I adore the SU Dancing Dolls, but the J-settes whammed-out and were energized the entire battle. The Dolls became a bit lifeless after the 4th song.

Why are there mics anyway? SU sounds cleaner, JSU had some tempo issues. No HBCU can talk about another playing old songs they all do it on a daily but you got to keep some of the old and give it a new school flavor. If you are going to scream make sure you hit your note and cut off on one with everyone else, there are no solos. Two of the top HBCU bands going head to head. The MEAC schools don't understand what goes on in the SWAC. MEAC be half sleep. JSU can't say they were tired from the night before I mean it was just Mississippi Valley, not like you had to play fight song a lot or anything. Last year (2015) SU didn't battle JSU before the game. In 2014 the Jaguar Nation traveled to Jackson and took over the gym during BOTB and then killed them during the game. It is going to be nice to see them go head to head during the game. Overall good battle

later39 Its never expected in New Orleans. But without the Father mishap, JSU was the only band Ive seen make it a battle and the arrangements have gotten better. SU Something in my heart was poo water..........but the rest was awesome. I gotta go with the Boom on this one.

Both bands sound good although Southern has way better cutoffs for the end of their songs and they're a little cleaner. But I still love both of these bands.
