1.JSU2.SU3. Toss Up Dega or AlcornJSU was more consistent, SU shook off the mishap and tempo as the battle went on, Alcorn needed better song selection and trumpets doing to much and Dega song selection and trying to out blow everybody instead of executing
Ive been a SU fan for years..but JSU is on a whole other level than everyone else this season. SU need to go back to the basics.

Yeah the tempo went to hell and back for a minute but they recovered nicely
TC had 9 bass drums compared to JSU 6 and still JSU was pushing more watts

I can't believe I'm saying this but I don't know what su was on but they didn't get this w and I'm in total shock but when u on top for so long u become the target but that church song was su highlight of the whole battle loved it but I. believe jsu won this one well. between them and alcorn idk it was crazy with them 2 but dega did good as well to but jsu and alcorn was giving me more life than dega but again yaw did great all bands did but su I'm disappointed but I'm not them other bands came prepared this time great battle everyone
my high school band director use to always say i don't prepare for nobody other bands prepare for me and that's what happen in this battle su wasn't prepared for all those good bands today but they damn sho was prepared for su way to eat jsu alcorn and dega love degas stay woke arrangement good shit everybody

Probably because they had a game against FVSU the day before this event(I saw the vids). So the Jukes were probably wore out.
If they held this event on a BYE week, the Jukes wouldn't sound so wore out.

Anyone that have been around for the last 35 years like I have could honestly tell you there are three distinct sounds in the HBCU band world over the years. The mellow R & B concert sound & arrangements of FAMU & the uptempo mellophone, high note intense trumpet, precision marching and brass sound arrangements of the Human Jukebox. If you put on a blindfold you can tell which band is which. Many bands in the SWAC including J-State are leaning towards sounding like SU over the past 25 years. Many MEAC bands are sticking to their traditional full sounding arrangements. This is why SU always states "Often Imitated and Never Duplicated" The Human Jukebox invented the term "Crank". Many Louisiana and New Orleans high schools adopted this style years ago, which is why many HBCUs love to recruit from NOLA. NOLA high school trumpets learn to play above the register at an early age, especially in the 70's & 80's. Check your history & old videos from 30 years ago...

Alcorn Really came through with a different book from the rest!! The lovely day trombone solo., AEIOU ,Jesus promises , and the cranking tunes !! They gave a little of everything even the slow tune 👍👍👍👍👍 If your really a "Band Head"you would realize all of that on SOD end ..GREAT JOB ALCORN!!

I`m extremely late, but I am a student and this was midterms week. Nevertheless, I`m like an old head saying the same old tune this and that band was better but *Factually*. Alcorn is definitely better they held they own regardless. Not to be unrealistic though if you get a legit Sound Decibel Reader cleanse reading says ASU and JSU were the cleanest. While SU and JSU where the loudest. But what kind of real musician judges skill legitimately on *Volume*.
Now the percussionist.
1. Jackson: My God Tenors and Bass Drums
2. Alcorn: Cymbals Snares
3. Southern: All around band to percussion balance but sacrifice power which is always OK.
4. Talledga I can see them betting god into the drum I think with some equipment upgrades they really would have shown out. That is a set back as well though because once they get the equipment they have to relearn how to balance with the band.
I should add I`m saying that about SU compared to last year and all previous arrangement. The absolutely killed but its like something was missing that`s not the SU I remember my freshman year.

Talladega sounds horrible, it's actually crazy, like they arent even keeping up with the other bands

Southern- Most power and pure sound in my opinion they have like 50 trumpets too lol
JSU- Jackson back, lowkey feel like we aint even see their full power, Boombox gunna be interesting
W goes to JSU VERY close to SU tho. I like the dexterity in the JSU style, SU cranking can get old.

As I watched the 2017 Crankfest, my suggestion to Southern's band directors, since you were the school to host the event. As host you should always let your guest march in and play first in order or the line up. Southern should have marched in last and be the last band in the play order. Please pass on to Southern. Hopefully that would change for the next Crankfest.

TrueKing Truly Music pretty accurate except for the fact that Jstate tubas are the best in the west and probably HBCU right now (10) and Alcorn drummers be too loud and the parts don't always match (5) and SU drum parts are simplistic a mesh as a section they don't do that extra (9) and SU tubas nice but still a few flaws (8) and SU mellos came a far distance from let's just say two years ago (8)
