    The Walmart batteries and the Duralast batteries are both made by Johnson Controls. They are the exact same batteries with the same CCA ratings and the same warranty, but the Walmart batteries are about 30% less expensive (NOT "cheaper" as that tends to imply quality issues), and as an added bonus, the warranty process at Walmart is FAR less aggravating than AutoZone. Walmart just goes off of the date sticker on the battery; no phone number or receipt needed (although the receipt helps). I'm an independent mechanic and ALL of my customers get Walmart batteries for this reason. If they're out on the road somewhere far away and need a battery, there is ALWAYS a Walmart nearby, and a lot of Walmarts are open 24/7. Just like Stephen, I buy all of my oil, filters, chemicals and batteries for my garage at Walmart because those savings really do tremendously add up, for the exact same products that are 30% more at the parts stores.

    I really like swivel head ratchets. My favorite ratchet is my 3/8" swivel head. I think it's considered a long handle ratchet. You can break something loose then unscrew it using it like you're using a screwdriver.

      Whats a good brand for them(what do you have and do you like it)?

    • @52Ford
      @52Ford 3 роки тому +1

      @@jonnyg44 My 3/8" swivel head is a Kobalt, and I was going to give you a link to it, but I don't think they make it anymore. I prefer the chrome handles over the rubberized handles. The rubberized ones are nice, but chemicals (motor oil) don't play nice with them. (They end up delaminating and smelling weird). I tape the handles on my chrome ratchets with bright colored tape so I don't forget them under a hood or in the field. I don't know how much I paid for my 3/8" swivel head, as it was a while ago, but I think it was 35 or 40 dollars. Craftsman and Husky should be of a very similar quality. Whatever you get, make sure it has a good warranty. Most of your Craftsman, Kobalt, and Husky have a lifetime warranty, but make sure you keep all of the parts of a "kit" together. Don't put half of your plier set in the truck and the other half in the shop. If you break a pair of pliers in the set, I've had them ask to see the entire set for an exchange. Same with screwdrivers. Also, just because one customer service person says no, doesn't mean another one won't say yes. I had one refuse to exchange a pair of broken pliers because they didn't sell them anymore, and another talked to a manager and let me pick out a replacement.

The plugin comes out next to the block heater plugin, both get plugged in the winter (central IN) and the battery tender gets plugged even during the summer. I have had much better battery performance and longevity since doing this. Not sure if it would benefit you situation or not.

I asked the mechanic why it works and he says it has something to do with basic chemistry that I should've learned in high school. Something about bases and acid they counteract one another. I love how this guy's all like 'I'm Pro-America and pro small business and hand crafted things' and then he's like 'I shop at Walmart' lol. Oh, so I guess saving a couple bucks is worth more than providing other hard working Americans a better paying job and better treating company than Walmart lol. Don't get me wrong, I shop at Walmart. But if I need something like groceries I go to Costco first, one of the best American companies, then if they don't have it I go to Walmart lol. As far as Oil goes I just buy Amsoil because it's the best oil money can buy and it helps support real American small business American ingenuity and actively fights against the big corrupt oil companies out there. And I buy their filters or WIX if Amsoil doesn't have their filter. For tires and batteries I just assume go to a local tire shop or something for that. The battery on my 2018 GMC looks like they built a computer on top of it so while I haven't replaced it yet, I'll probably let GM do it so if they screw it up that's on them.

    Tells us to put positive on first then the negative (which he does do) then with both positive and negative terminals tapped onto the terminal, he takes the socket wrench an tightens up the positive terminal then tightens the negative terminal. With both terminals connected the socket wrench on the positive can short out (since he has the negative
    terminal engaged with the battery. The proper sequence is (leaving the negative Terminal disconnected): 1) Put the positive connector on the battery terminal 2) Then use socket wrench to tighten the positive cable connector 3) Remove the socket wrench from the positive terminal connector 4) Put the negative battery connector onto the
    negative terminal 5) Then use the socket wrench to tighten the negative cable connector 6) Remove the socket wrench from the negative battery connector. He demonstrates the mistake at 10:00 in this video. Stephen, please correct this mistake...

    I live on a fixed income so something like buying a battery has to count. About 8 years ago I priced batteries for my 2001 Silverado and when pay day came I was sure Walmart had the best price. I took out my bad battery and drove over to Walmart in my other vehicle and traded it in on a new one, brought it home and installed it in my truck. When I got in my truck and put the key in there was no buzzing sound that you normally hear when the door is open and the key is in the ignition, when I tried to start it there was nothing. So I checked all my connections on the battery and everything was solid, then I grabbed my Midtronics battery tester and it told to replace the battery. When I called Walmart I talked to a woman in automotive that told me to just bring the battery back and they would swap it out. When I get to Walmart the manager was there and he said they would need to test it first, a half hour later he told me that they had to charge it so they could test it and that the battery is fine according to his battery tester. My core was still sitting right behind the counter and I told him if the battery I brought back was fine they could keep it and I would take my core and get my money back, I then went over to the other side of the parking lot and went to Autozone and they had the battery for $10 less and when I told them the story they said they hear that all the time with Walmart. ;-)

    Agm should be good for boosting, gel cell is likely not, we go to a battery supplier and it’s cheaper than stores but only has a one year warranty, but as long as you don’t have a failure in the electrical that brings it below charging voltage while you sleep through the week, they should last 5-10, our first set from them was bought in 2013 and we also bought a deep cycle and a car battery from them, the car battery is the one that faced the massive draw, it still works but I don’t trust the sound on long cranks and am glad it’s the one being sold with the car

    Project farm did a test and Walmart batteries came out on top. Even better than interstate. Or if I remember correctly they are made by the same company.

    Johnson controls is the largest manufacturer of batteries in the US, and makes the batteries for everyone, including optima. Youre paying for a sticker change. As well, walmart has a 3 yr, 2 yr prorate on their max batteries, or a 5yr replacement on the AGMs, better then most competitors. The sticker is the differance.

      there are only 3 manufacturer of standard car batteries in the US, Exide and East Penn are the other 2.. but different batteries from the same manufacturer may have a different proprietary mix according to brand..
