"He's so fragile right now" - yes, but forcefully keeping Claudia from leaving wasn't going to keep Louis from spiraling downwards. And it's his pattern, thinking that HE can take away or prevent Louis' internal strife.
About the chess, when the show first aired, the showrunners shared that Claudia did a famous strategem - called the Polish Gambit or something - where you strategically sacrifice your pieces to draw your opponent (who’s thinking they’re crushing you) into a trap.

I hope you ladies add it to some kind of schedule. There is a movie adaptation with an incredible cast, but I strongly wouldn't recommend watching it until after season 2. The movie has some major spoilers.

I have been waiting since the minute the last episode ended for the second season to begin. The writers strike didn't help. I keep getting the feeling I'm going to die somehow before I get to see the second season. The trailers look great!
