Ha, the Infirm and Overweight crawl out during the review!!!
That's why you cannot take his reviews seriously because he's biased.
Inkys is an amazing place. Not only do they have good food, but they are good people. During the height of the pandemic they were donating meals to the workers that were forced to be around people, doctors, nurses, police, stuff like that. They have also donated good a bunch of other times.
We gotta get Dave to do RE-SCORES. All 9+ reviews so we can get a real solid list of the best in the world.
He just released a shirt in the merch store with all his favorite pizza spots.
I suspect it depends on the style. You need to do a New York / New Haven / thin bar pie or Trenton style tomato pie to get in the upper 8s and higher. This is a great score for Chicago style.
Yeah If/when he retires from the pizza game have a one last ride year of returning to all the 9’s to re rate them and have em be an event like Kobe’s last few games haha
I scored this EXACT before it came out of his mouth. His early career was definitely generous 9's and 8's. We ABSOLUTELY need a full review of Hartford, New York, PA and Jersey.
@@anthonypetercoleman339 The last few in NJ I nailed. I thought this one would be a 7.3 With that in mind, DeLorenzo's (9.2), Delucia's (9.4), Conte's (8.9) are my home turf. Personally I think DeLorenzo's & Conte's should be higher and DeLucia's should be lower but the scores are in the ballpark. There's plenty of pizza in the 7s here too and, depending on my mood, I'll occasionally get that; but the upper 8s and above is just something that needs to be experienced to be appreciated. Remember, all (most) pizza is good, some is better... :^)
Crazy seeing Dave come to your home town and rate the pizza you grew up on
I’m late seeing this But I wonder what he would think about Marco’s and Gino’s pizza Toledo got a lot of good pizza places
@@whattheysayk9558 Marcos is by far my favorite lol
Toledo pizza is nothing without Sofo's 💯
He literally took like the worst piece on a inky’s pizza. It’s all about the middle pieces. It really bothers me because I love inky’s but those edge pieces are kinda what’s usually left after I eat one of their pizzas.
@@whattheysayk9558 agreed just don’t even think of going to Gino’s on Alexis.
I grew up in this city left for 15 years and recently moved back. Haven’t been back to inky’s yet but man it’s good to see it on your reviews. They always had good food, nice people, I love this city. Cheers Dave!
As a Sign guy and Pizza guy, this review checked all the boxes!
Kory Shearer is the only real sign guy in Toledo!
@@ezrider1967 That’s Korys work!
I see what you did with the boxes there lol
@@fredhill8260 yep!
What's a sign guy mean?
It’s so great to see inky still in business. My brother and sister or half brother and sister are related to the family. And in case we still used to be a big treat for our family. Back in the 60s 70s and 80s though. It was a large rectangle old shaped thin crust pizza! I’m uncertain when they change their style to a deep dish.
When Dave goes back in.....
you know the spot is a gold mine.
Like when Carson called the comic over to the couch and chat.
It’s a shithole in a ghetto part of town
Toledo has a handful of restaurants that can hold a candle to the better places in the big cities. Pizza here cannot. Tried everything on the menu. Sweet people. Skip the food and just get nick & vito's in southside chicago, or giovanni's for italian (sinatra's area fav) toward detroit. Toledo has no good pizza. Detroit is the closest area for great pizza, if you like detroit style.
@@Pomeray8 Freddi’s in Detroit (8.7) is the best I’ve had. Another great is Il Rione in Cleveland. Stubborn Brother and M Osteria are the two best in Toledo IMO.
I live in Toledo this is my favorite place for pizza it’s so good I was so happy to see Dave portnoy do a pizza review there. Was hoping for a higher score but I’ll take
It must be so wholesome to walk in a random place and some down to earth people just say we have been waiting a long time for you.
I always love it when the owners are so welcoming to Dave, and are so eager to share their history with him.
That's how you know its a solid spot not only with good pizza, but with good people too
Those are some of my favorite kinds of restaurants! they have/ had a couple generations of various family members working there the walls show a lot of historical items and they run like a well oiled machine. You get the same good food every time you go
Inkys is a Toledo gem ❤ thanks for the review here!!
Not according to his score it isn't
Each to Thier own but be real your never been to Toledo you would lose your shoes boy
@@madflavour8548 lmao what? I went to a mudhens game and walked around the city. Seemed kinda dumpy but not unsafe at all...
@@mikerzisu9508 I was thinking 7.6

The reason the mayor suggested Inky's is because all the Polish people would come here for Italian. My mom has been eating there since the early 60s and when I came along, we ate there as a family, so at least by 1971-72 when I was a toddler. Everyone in the old Polish Village ate here.
Hands down my favorite pizza. Great family, great vibe, and even better food. The sauce alone is worth the trip. Get ya’ some Inky’s!!
I fell in love with Inky's Taco Pizza as a little girl. For almost 40 years now, I compare every taco pizza to theirs!!! Nothing and I repeat NOTHING has come even close!!!! ❤️ You Inky's!!
Taco pizza is Amazing, hope to try theirs someday!
Taco pizza is unacceptable that's not authentic Italian.
People in ohio don't have pizza like new jersey and new york
NO TACO THATS MEXICAN
Dave, u really have class, not only do u always score the pizza's, but u go and get the back story. LUV IT, my family was in the Italian bar restaurant business for over 70yrs, including the bootleg days in NY. LUV THE STORIES about the families, that's what makes good to great Italian(also other nationalities) food, love,
Class? I’m pretty sure that’s the one thing he has never been accused of. Abuse, however…
I have always been a Ginos’s pizza eater. I’ve driven past Inky’s many times. The next time I’m home I’ll try Inky’s!!
I grew up a couple miles away and we went to Inkys frequently. I went to high school with the 2nd generation. This original location is iconic in Toledo!
One Italian food pizza review everybody knows Dave owes the mob money.
The thought of that made me chuckle
a no reason "celery"
Everybody knows that the mob is a myth.
lol, this made me laugh....good one
The mob used to be pretty active here in the Toledo area, I don’t know much on the details but there’s a documentary style book that goes into the detail.
It’s pretty well known that the mob doesn’t do much here anymore, that or they’ve gotten all of us to believe that.
"I love the vibe in there! It's like old school you know, old people eating" 😂
OWNERS: Stay inside when Dave's doing the review
Yeah so damn annoying. Just can’t help themselves.
1 extra point if the owner is standing and watching. Everyone know the rules. This would be a 6 if the owner wasn’t there
Yup. A 6.8. But he had too much heart to do that to them. It's whatev.
When they're out there, if he gives a score that's low 7s, it ain't that good. It's not a bad rating, but it's low enough to not ding his credibility
I honestly believe if the owners feel like he's going to rate lower than they want that's why they step out. I'd say it automatically boosts the rating up .3 or so.
Love places like that. I checked out their menu online and looks like pizza is probably just an afterthought there. I bet people go there for kick ass Italian food.
It's 50/50. It's definitely in an Italian restaurant, not a pizza restaurant
Yes!! The pizza is decent but the steaks and lasagna are sublime!! Born and raised in toledo so I know this much to be true
You will not leave hungry…get the fish special during Lent and the spaghetti bowl alone is a meal in itself.
The lasagna is incredible!
I grew up going to Inkys. Pizza is good but you are right. The spaghetti is where it’s at. The small is massive and the meat sauce is so good.
Lovin this Toledo run he’s been doing. Keep the Ohio reviews coming!!
Grew up with this pizza but haven't had it in years. My dad and all his work buddies ate there after work all the time. Glad to see you in town👍
*Oh absolutely a workman's pizza...down to earth people with great work*
*ethics. Nothing fancy, but GOOD home cooked food!*
As someone who grew up in NY and lives in Toledo, I think the score is really fair. I'm not a huge fan of most local pizza, I live really close to Inky's and it's not bad. Stubborn Brothers is pretty good, but more on the bready style, not at all like NY crust even though they claim it to be. Calvino's is also really good for what I call "midwest style". Great Review!
I live here and travel regularly. Been to all five boroughs (love nyc). Been scrolling the comments. Enjoying the nice words people are saying about this very impoverished rust belt town, but you're like the lone voice of reason! People are always bummed with my brutally honest takes on how well Toledo pizza and bagels hold up to NYC. I get told the wife and I belong out there. Maybe when we're done traveling.
@@Pomeray8 yeah, I definitely don’t want to be overly negative but also realistic. Toledo has a bit of hipster echo chamber going on and I think it just comes from Toledo being the butt of jokes for so many years. But, I’ve been here for a while and can say I’ve seen big improvements over the last 10 years or so.
Nice to see Dave back in his old form.
I thought for a second he was gonna inflate the score knowing the history of the spot and the owner coming out.
He did inflate, it was a 6.7-6.8 but 7.1 is always the “owner breathing down my neck and it has a good story” score
@@Vstrum very true
Yeah I think it was inflated. Looked like a high 6.
Definitely in the 6s, judging by how he was talking about it. It seemed that he didn't think it was that great. Owner's son, nephew or whatever was smart coming outside to help get the over 7 score.
I wish he would just go back to his honest, true scores. Looked like mid 6 at best.
my favorite pizza place, been going there my whole life (56 years) funny thing is up until a few years ago i had never had anything other then extra cheese and pepperoni pizza. Just liked it that much. Anyone else also think its the best cold pizza on the planet? Heck i sometimes order and a small just to put in the fridge for the next morning.
Owned for generations, family name on the line, great old-school style, recommended by the mayor and Dave still slaps down a 7.1 score. He went back inside even and took pictures with the family.
Impressed with the cojones on El Prez.
7.1 from him is a good score, thats like a 9+ for regular people.
It would have been 6.8 if the guy weren't standing outside.

The old couple coming out did it for me 😂
bro they weren't even old...she looked like early 50s 😭 i literally can't with the midwest
Dr. Now would tell her "no more pizza or pasta"! She tells Dr. Now "it's just one bite"! Everybody knows the rules!
Busted.
Same but I just couldn’t pull the trigger on posting anything nasty about them
I agree actually really sad - god bless them (and I dont believe in god )
Every Midwestern family pizzeria is a treasure. ❤️
I got side tracked watching the slow race between the fat lady and old man 2:05
Sweet Dave I will love you no matter what. Your contribution to small business will forever be with me. You’re completely amazing. 🌷🌷🌷
Inky’s is good - to bad Sofo’s out in the point isn’t still around - by far the best Italian food for ever. The owner, Maria would inspect every plate being served. Most meals came with soup and salad. The soup was what she felt like making that day. That gem is lost forever
Hate it when Dave goes through one of his “again it’s a solid pie” phases
I’m confused why on this Toledo trip Dave keeps calling that style “Chicago pan style.” I thought the styles Chicago was known for were deep dish (which that obviously isn’t) and tavern style, which is thin and crispy and cut into squares. What he’s eating looks closer to that but maybe a little thick for tavern style. Definitely not “pan” though. There’s at least one Chicago review where he has the tavern style and calls it “pub style,” maybe that’s what he means and that’s just the Bolivian Marching Powder taking its toll.
I’d hit up this spot just based on how chill and kind the staff seem.
Other than the owner standing there acting weird as shit, yeah they werent bad
Love Inky's pizza !! One of my top three picks for pizza in Toledo.
Man I love this *Northwest ohio run* he's doing
Good because the pizza is the only good we have up here 😂
He needs to make a run back over here in central oh and review sugar bears.
That waddler was epic lol
lol
So true, the epitome of societal collapse
She walks the same way as Dave
That lady who waddled out the door is 1000% Toledo.
Waddled...lmaoooo
I think that waddle was a combination of chaffing and her ol man getting pokey with his cane night prior 😂
I’m from Toledo; worked a crossed the street at Devilblss and started going to to Inky’s when the room he was in was the whole restaurant. Love their pizza and lasagna.
Been going to Inky’s for over 45 years! Best pizza in Toledo!
Been eating here since the sixties. As good as the pizza is, the Italian food is the bomb! Spegetti and lasagna is outta this world! And the sizzling t bone steaks too.
I’m so confused.. a pan style pizza is a deep dish to me? But that doesn’t look thick at all?
@Grant Kirtz this!!
That was awesome! Love the videos when you meet the families and get some back-story.
I drive from Pitt to Chicago to visit family quite often, and I might have to take a quick stop in Toledo ;). Cheers everyone!
If you do, JoJos is the spot to go. The original on Monroe Street. It's the closest to his style too, not crisp enough though, but I don't think he went while he was in town. These are all iconic places, but more known for their vibe than their pizza
Guys pizza on the East side of Toledo is amazing as well. It's not Chicago style, but it's amazing. I always order Vito's pizza too, but they aren't a small Mom and Pop pizza place.
Don’t listen to the guy that said JoJos - their pizza is trash. Honestly about the same as Little Caesars. I don’t know about Guy’s on the East Side, I’ve heard decent things about it, but it’s on the East Side so… 😂
@@turntableable The East is better than the North and the South side. The only good part of Toledo is the deep West near Sylvania and the surrounding areas like Maumee, Oregon, ect.
i love the booths. brings me back to the 80s growing up and Goodfellas (for some reason)
Toledo native here! Been following you for awhile now. Welcome to the city! Good reviews for the local pizza places very fair I would say. A corporate slice to try. Marco's Pizza! No matter where I travel between here and Florida no one makes pizza like marcos
The pizza looks so delicious. A restaurant recognized as delicious as it has been for a long time!
Yes
The inside of this place is textbook. Would go there at least once a week.
Klinger would be so happy.
Nah, he'd go for some red hots.

Bro inkys is so fire, so cool Dave went there. Best pizza in
Toledo by far!
These owners are def on to the fact, that if they stand near Dave, they will get a few marks higher. Got that pie into the 7s.
That’s an Ohio 10 that walked out halfway through the review
Now that's a nice pizza joint. Classy AF.
I got flashbacks of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man for a second there😳
Always take a few points off if he scores it with the owners in his face influencing the score. That pizza was definitely in the 6's
Probably a 6.4
One thin crust pizza, everyone knows Bob Inky is channeling through different dimensions.
I grew up in north Toledo but have been away for 20 years and don't regret moving it's no place to raise a family anymore
Born in Toledo and I never ever in my life been to inkys before I go pass it but I'm a have to make a trip there and find out
Original Neon signs for décor, I couldnt wish to eat there sooner. Thats some real love put in there
Was SO hoping Dave would notice the old couple coming out behind him. Something told me the woman would have been an absolute star.
& That’s my grandpa on the wall who you just disrespected with a pedestrian 7.1 😆
Love the Toledo gear Dave thanks for giving my city love
Man, that place looks awesome.
I guessed 7.2 I’ve been getting em really close or on the dot lately. Me and Dave love the same kind of pie
Dave. Those are Chicago style pies but we do not use a pan when cooking our thin pies in Chicago. The pies are placed on the oven deck just like other pies. The Chicago thick styles are called stuffed or pan. Each of those two styles are cooked in a pan. A little pizza 101. Thanks
he does not like Chicago.. there something he doesn't want to tell us.. never really gives us a real chance. score Ohio better.. smh. only watch him cuz I love pizza.. Chi-town baby..
Yeah it looks absolutely nothing like a pizza made in a pan. I wonder why no one close to Dave says anything lol.
Thanks for the post love 🍕 🍕 🍕 pie's 😀😀
Omg lived here all my life, right up the street, Pizza lover like I can eat it every day!! Can't wait to grab my pie!!
I’m surprised he didn’t give them at least a 7.6, 7.7 or 7.8 because he seem so effusive about the place itself and seemed to really like the pizza… Hopefully, Dave has the good taste to be a fan of the classic sitcom M*A*S*H to know that Jamie Farr who played Klinger really was from Toledo, Ohio and that’s why he used to wear so much of the MudHens attire, and always talked about the great Tony Packo’s bratwurst place in Toledo especially in later seasons
Lady: "Nice meeting you."
Dave: "Yeah, for sure."
He says nice meeting you before she does
This dude is great he reminds me of when I was like in third grade and I looked up the older neighborhood high school dude next-door to me he was the same type of dude this dude is cool.
Crazy seeing your families pizza restaurant being reviewed by Dave 😂
I’ve been going there since a child was born in 1950 this is the only pizza. I live in Tucson now and it’s my first stop when I come back to visit and the last stop when I leave and I always freeze a couple for the road. I give them a 11 or12.
Guy stands next to Dave hoping for an inflated 8.6 score. 😂
Dave's looking trim, everybody knows that's an XL jacket.
Another Round-in Downers Grove Illinois. Chicago suburb. Very very good thin crust NOT pan pizza go check it out Dave!
I’m a pizza/Italian beef junky, just discovered these reviews and I can’t stop watching my favorite UA-cam videos!!
Great review thanks for coming to Toledo. But when you come back you need to go to Jo-Jo's on Monroe Street, and J&G's in Sylvania.
Jo-Jo's is family run, I grew up with the owners grandkids and j&g's used to be my grandpa's pharmacy.
Inkys is the absolute best in Toledo!!!
Love your reviews Dave
I have lived in toledo my entire life and have never eaten here. Good thing I only moved two hours away. I think I'll go this weekend and give it a try.
I know you been in Cleveland Ohio already but if you pass through again, try Athens Pizza on rocky river...ask for thinner crust...or primoz on w117 .....ever since I left the Westside, I find myself going back to them 2 places...love to here what you think lol
That pizza looked thin and crispy. It did not look like a Chicago pan pizza.
Yeah I lived in Chicago for 24 years..
Hearing him say that makes my ears bleed.
@@profoundwanderer1441 This is Chicago tavern style pizza, not deep dish. It is a thin pizza cooked in the bottom of the pizza pan with the edges of the pan providing the crispness on the cracker-like crust
Yeah what Mark said; Tavern style. Notice how the pizza was cut like squares instead of triangles?
Great Place - Old School , Toledo Tough . Dave is Great !! Did Pizza business go up after review ????
Mom and pops are the best. Great looking pie.
Grew up on this pizza and honestly 7.1 seems a bit low. I would have given it a 8.1 but I haven’t been there in 5 years so fair is fair. Get the sausage and onion pizza. Best thing from my childhood.
He’s tried pizza from all over the world so obviously his standards are higher

No shit I had no idea he came to try Inkys. I'm right around the corner from this spot and it is indeed a Toledo staple.
I think it's just cool to see regular people in regular towns who are living their regular life & these pizza places are the good local joint
I know you are critiquing Toledo pizza's, but you should have stuck around for when they were bringing out a hot sizzling steak to a table. You would have seen the waitress almost run to a waiting table and you can hear the steak still cooking on the plate. The aroma as the sizzling steak passes your table is nothing like you've ever experienced before. With all steak orders, a side of spaghetti with marinara is included. The Incorvia Family (Inky) is synonymous with Toledo, OH on the corner of Detroit Ave. and Sylvania Ave. Proud Toledo Italians!
