    I wouldn't recommend doing a rebuild of the database on the 5 mainly because ssd's don't really need to be "defragged" the same way hdd's need to. Most tech experts do not recommend doing that because it adds on to write limit of the ssd and you're just furthering the drive to its limit. Flash memory is designed to be really fast all the time and it can access the data much quicker than on a old hdd which will fragment the data as time progresses.

    • @mattmysterious866

      exactly only do rebuild database if something on your ps5 isn't working for example the other day i had to do it bc i couldn't use anything online thought it was an internet problem but nope it was a ps5 problem and i had to do the rebuild database

    • @davidpower3102
      @davidpower3102 Рік тому +80

      It isn’t a defrag however, It’s a database rebuild. A defrag reorganises the files (and the parts they are made up of) on the disk to contiguous storage locations. The database rebuild only recreates an index file.
      It is very effective at restoring the OS to its original performance.

      what you're talking about has nothing to do with restoring database

    • @Alphagundam
      @Alphagundam Рік тому +12

      @@davidpower3102 it's essentially the same process as you are still adding unnecessary writes to your drive. Since it has to rewrite the system files and it's really more ideal if you're having performance issues.

    • @Alphagundam
      @Alphagundam Рік тому +15

      @@happygames9757 databases restoration still adds writes onto the ssd so in essence you should only be doing it when you are encountering performance lag or errors on the drive. And I wouldn't deem it necessary after a year if you haven't encountered any of that.

    Taking a vacuum to electronics is typically seen as a no-go as it has potential to create static build up which, in turn, can damage parts. Just use compressed air and tip the console so the dust can fall out on its own.

Not sure the conditions some people have their consoles in, but mine is basically floor level, sitting vertically, with 3 cats in the house. I could barely see any dust at all on the edge of the fan blades. The vents along the edge also did not have any dust that was visible (still cleaned it though). I hit up the "vacuum ports" with an empty canister and nothing was in it. I found that a bit odd, especially when my gaming computer (with dust screens) seems to need cleaning at least 2 times a year. I have always kept some of those green plastic toothpick/flossing things in a little basket under my coffee table and a microfiber towel, and scrape out those grooves and wipe down the shell and joysticks during any long loading screens. I've never had a controller on any console get gross or even show residue or built-up gunk, you gotta take care if your stuff and it'll last longer. My two XBox One controllers are both from 2013 and could pass for almost brand new and work perfectly after thousands of hours.
    I also wipe my car dash and console at stoplights so I may be a bit compulsive with keeping things clean, but that's never been a bad thing in my personal opinion.

    I've had consoles for years, including an xbox 360, and have had no issues with them despite never opening them and checking for dust. Besides that, PS5's have SSD's, which don't need to be rebuilt or defragged. It's more likely that rebuilding periodically for no reason is making your SSD's lifespan shorter.

    This is an awesome video. Thank you for all the updates and help. I do have a PS5 controller question if you're able to help. My left joystick rubber covering has loosened from its glued state. Are there different covers and or different joysticks that I could replace this with? I didn't know this would happen and I've never seen any videos about this, but knowing that these joysticks are not the same as the PS4 solid plastic joysticks I guess it was bound to happen at some point. Thank you.

    I wipe down my controller with a microfiber and some iso alcohol once every week or 2. Takes a 2 or 3 minutes. Sticks, buttons, the groove under the sticks, pad. Its so nice, cause when I goto play it next time, man the controller feels like brand spanking new again.
    I actually wipe down my astro headset too. Gentle on the leather or whatever it is ear cushions and head band, but again, it feels freash and clean when I wear them again.
    Just some simple up keep. Takes 10 mins or so, but I like that clean feeling
    Gotta do the data rebuild still.

    Even as someone who hasn't touched a console in 7 years, I can't recommend cleaning your console regularly enough. Dust is easily of the most common reason for a console to lose performance due to thermal throttling or outright killing the device from overheating. It's like a car, you have to check the oil and water regularly if you want it to last and perform well.
