    CAST:
    Jesus: Tom Westerman
    Judas: Kurt Yaghjian
    Mary Magdalene: Kathe Dezina
    Pontius Pilate: Christopher Allen
    Caiaphas: Peter Schlosser
    Annas: Steve Schochet
    King Herod: Paul Ainsley
Master audience recording taped by Dan Lampinski.
    Audio mastered by Carl Morstadt
    Equipment used:
    Sony TC-152SD Tape Recorder
    Sony ECM-99 Stereo Microphone
    Maxell cassettes
Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.
He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

I saw Kurt as Judas in Dayton, Ohio in 1975. He got a Standing Ovation and it's obvious why! I never thought I'd hear this again!

This is amazing! I'm actually listening to a 1970s JCS show, let alone one that's high quality. I really hope there are more recordings out there--I'd love to hear the OBC and London live. And Kurt Yaghjian rocks it as Judas... the movie definitely didn't show off his full ability.

Omg I'm impressed by Kurt's job as Judas!
I mean, he's already awesome as Annas, one of the best actually
But just, woah, he's pretty good at portraying Judas too, especially in "Damned for all time/Blood money", he left me open-mouthed

My sister Patty took me to see this when it first came to Long Island in 1971, the same year that the Allman Brothers released their Fillmore East album with the venerable "Whipping Post". So, when I hear WP I think back to the graphic scene orchestrated by Mel Gibson in "The Passion of Christ where they're whipping the tar out of JC and that channels me back to the 40 lashes scene as this 12 year old witnesses at the Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. How's that for a Palm Sunday recollection?

Yes that is indeed one of the few cast members we were able to identify, the other two are Tom Westerman as Jesus and Kurt Yaghjian (who played Annas in the 1973 movie) as Judas.

When the recording was processed from tape to digital, it got sped up. That sometimes happens owing to the process. It is slightly faster, but was not nearly as fast live as heard here. Slow it down by about 5 to 8%, and it would sound closer to the reality.

Oh dear. The pitch on this recording is wrong! Overtime many recordings go sharp or flat depending on a myriad of reasons . This is something I’m an expert on. :) Half a step sharp in most cases, sometimes more, sometimes less. I wonder if the tempo was altered as well? It’s SO fast and I find it hard to believe that they performed it like that.

Kurt Yaghjian's laughter in Judas' Death is so creepy… he's really lost it by that point. Tom Westerman is very good with the notes he hits but he has the same problem that Ted Neeley has for me, he sounds a bit like a duck a certain bits. I know that's a bizarre thing to say.

That's owing to the tape being slightly sped up when the recording was processed from tape to digital, which sometimes happens. Slow it down by about 5 to 8%, and it would sound closer to the reality, with the singers less similar to each other in register.
