I Need YOUR Help! $500 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 Project Part 3: Slippery Starter

UPDATE FIXED A replacement starter motor and new starter clutch springs didn't fix the issue. Cleaning and light sanding of the clutch surface has it now engaging properly.
Last time, we got this 1997 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 project motorcycle running. Now, almost a month later, my back ordered intake parts have arrived. I’ll fix the intake then investigate the starter. It’s been slipping badly and needs to be addressed. Please feel free to shed some knowledge on this system if you think you can diagnose the problem.
