I lived and worked in Albuquerque my entire adult life, 38 years. Four years ago, we moved out of state due to the appalling crime rate. We didn't want to leave (husband born and raised in NM), but I knew there was a cleaner, safer place for us to live. New Mexico has no funding and no plan. Thanks for this video.

@Cameron, the last thing we want is for you to relocate. You liberals have a tendency of turning the city you're moving to into the same one you are fleeing from as soon as y'all get the opportunity to vote. For the sake of humanity, stay put!!!

i live in NM, i was homeless in santa fe, ive lived in abq for awhile and imma tell you that the lifestyle for me was the most addicting part. the drugs were very well the reason but the fast lifestyle is something that just never leaves my mind. i hate going to santa fe because every street corner on cerrillos reminds me of using, my twin brother and i lived in a tent behind walgreens and we would wake yup every day and steal from stores, to get well, we would traffic drugs to stay well too, and idk why thats so appealing to me. i have tbh living that lifestyle was the MOST fun ive ever had, thats in my entire life it was like i was at an amusement park every day! thank god im sober for 6 years now and i can promise you it gets easier. once you start accomplishing and gaining things it makes it easier because you know in your mind that no matter how careful you are your life will always turn to shit, and you will 100% lose everything! godbless you brotehr! i honestly think its funny how are state is freaking out abnout the homeless, WE WILL NEVER GET RID OF THE HOMELSS UNTIL WE DEAL WITH THE DRUG CRISIS, nnd we will most likely never do that unless we make clinics/regulate substances, so good luck USA

Hi there...🤗 Thank you. I was living in Albuquerque, homeless, living at Coronado Park up until the Mayor and the City closed the Park. Really had no where to go, but made the street my temporary home here and there. I'm now in Phoenix, Arizona living in a beautiful house while rehabilitating. But after, I hope and pray that I can get an apartment or rebuild my home on the Dine' reservation. First thing first...get a job. Thank you for shining the light on the homeless. Heinous....I've lived in NM for 30 years and have never seen the 'Q so bad. It was bad in the early 2000's, then considerably improved. But it's undeniably regressed. I avoid politics, but the mayor should resign for the good of the community. The lack of safety in the city is completely unacceptable.

First off, you live in a bad neighborhood. I have lived here my whole life and and this isn't anything compared to Philadelphia,Skid row,and Oregon. I suggest you move to a safer neighborhood. Every single state has a drug problem and homeless problem, we need to help them with a step up. If the 1% would donate we wouldn't have such a problem.

Obviously....and um some ppl are not fortunate at the moment to get out or had an opportunity to be able to be in a safer area. So don't point fingers. And us the community should definitely make an effort to somehow help out our city and the people.

My daughter and I are from Albuquerque. I started using and eventually my daughter started using. It took a while eventually we begin using together, supporting each other's drug habit. We're both clean now. We had to go into a Recovery Behavior Health Group Home Program that implemented a lot of mindfulness therapy, which had to be far away in another state (Phoenix Az) so we wouldn't get to many triggers. We're still healing, learning and relearning healthier lifestyles of sober living. It's beautiful to be able to live in sobriety again. I praise my Lord and savior, Jesus for this change. I challenge those who are using to take that step and seek help, there's a lot of resources out there, you just got to want it really bad. There's no " it's to late for me" that's a lie straight up from hell.

my brother and I have been using for half our life nearly, we both live in alb and were victims of physical mental and sexual abuse since childhood. I wish changing my life was as easy as getting clean. but it's not getting clean is the easy part I have faced far worse demons. the hard part is having a place to stay after and loving people to support me. every time I achieve sobriety we are forced to live back around the people who caused us harm which is nearly almost impossible to not relapse with major ptsd, manic depression, schizophrenia, u name it.. god has never helped me no matter how much I pray. if addiction were strictly the problem, I could have lived a normal life

Some of the most dangerous places I knew of are now gone, and some scary neighborhoods have improved greatly. I still love this town though. You are right though, several homeless I have run into have no interest or cant improve themselves. Those that can improve their situations do, but you hit it on the head the one thing that makes all the difference, someone to give you support. If you have no one to walk with you on this particular journey, you get lost...

Homeless is a state of mind and spirit. Christ nor His disciples or the first Christians worried about being homeless. The true problem with homelessness is the people it annoys and that people won't truly help. Nothing is written in stone or ancient writings of wisdom saying man should have a home or spend the majority of his life paying for one. Naked you came into this world and naked you will leave it.

As a former addict who was homeless in ABQ for 4 years, I can tell you. Until you mess with their high, they have no incentive to change. Right now addicts have damn near free run of the city. They can walk into stores and take food or whatever they want, nobody stops them. Ideal environment for an addict.

I’m from Albuquerque I pass by these streets almost everyday and it saddens me to see how many homeless people are hooked on drugs and look like zombies. I was driving with my mom in central and this one homeless man tried to get into our car he looked straight out of it like a zombie so please be careful out there and lock your doors as well. It’s truly sad I hope things change around here soon and people get the help they need.

We all have our problems, but we can start being a Lil kinder to one another, whether it's when we're driving or when we're out in public.... Ppl lost there morals and values, if you want to do something, stop judging a book by its cover and be kind to someone.

So if homeless need housing ...why are the safe houses in Alb empty?
Because they don't want to get clean or live by the rules..
So housing is not the answer.
Statictically majority of Alb homeless come from out of town.
Until they drop the gavel and force them out.
    They will keep coming

I live downtown ABQ. I've spoken to a bunch of homeless. A lot of people feel they don't have access to medical care, behavioral health and more. Almost all of the homeless people refuse to use public housing because of the rules for occupation. First thing on the housing rules is no drugs and no extra unauthorized visitors. So many homeless actually "enjoy" not having responsibilities.
