Recently got my fiance to play this and when the fight started she said "why is this music different" and proceeded to get destroyed. Loved every second of it haha
This was one of the most beautiful yet gut wrenching battles in the series up to that point. They watch in the rain being defeated their enemies walking away after losing to a honorable general just looking for validation from her queen. This battle is when I realized the developers loved this game

i was only 15 when i played ff9. and this was my most favorite scene and boss fight. beatrix is my favorite character as well. sigh! and now that i turned 36, i feel really old
Funny I thought Quina was mandatory for the longest time, so I always wondering where uh... Quina was during that cutscene. (Is Quina genderless? I’m opting more towards a guy because Zidane doesn’t protect Quina with the Protect Girls ability as far as I know.)
@@Quickword15 Quina seems to have no determined gender. In the german version they are referred to as he/him and in french as she/her, but that might be due to lack of non-binary-pronouns (at least german, don't know if french has some)
@@manoharalisa5829 that’s because you didn’t really defeat her it’s part of the dialogue when you lose the fight. if you just defend and never attack her she still says the same line after she plays her scripted amount of turns and the battle ends

As Garland pointed out, Kuja wanted to show him and Zidane that he was the worthy gnome. Not Zidande. That is why. Kuja knew who Zidane was since he was the one that dropped in off on Gaia.

Funny: Beatrix is a Paladin, yet she claim she has killed a hundred knights single-handledly. That doesn't sound very "Paladin-ish", she is more like a fallen Paladin.
