    THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I too, spent days working on my power washer. Watched a ton of videos. Yours was the only one that talked about cleaning off the rust. Cleaned and fired right up. YEAH!

    Thanks for the tip and the video. Every year.... I have to take the carb off and clean it all out. This year, I cleaned the carb... and it wouldn't start. So I came in and search for videos.... and came across your video. This morning.... I took the cover off.... and sure enough... the edge of the flywheel all the way around had rusty surface. Used emory cloth and cleaned it off to bare surface all the way around.
    I put the cover back on..... hooked the hoses all up..... cranked it and it fired up right up and ran solid.
    Also... something I did two year ago..... I have a hard time pulling on the rope and it wears me out when it won't start.
    So.... I took the black rope housing cover off..... and I removed the coil spring rope assembly. Then.... I took a hole saw and cut the center out of the cover.... which exposes the big nut holding the flywheel down.
    I put the cover back on..... and now to start the engine.... I use a 1/2 electric drill attached to a socket the size of the nut on the flywheel.
    I slide the socket through the hole and on to the nut.... then hang on to the drill real tight.... pull the trigger and off we go.
    As soon as I feel it starting..... I lift the drill and socket off of the nut and wallah..... engine is running without tugging on a rope.

    For once a video that finally helped me a couple of weeks ago at a yard sale I picked up a Craftsman perfect mix 3,000 psi pressure washer 8.75 horsepower the owner said it was hard to start he had it for a year used it twice but it's at outside uncovered I did what you showed and sure enough it was rusted all the way around I took 5 minutes to sand everything down put it back together and first pull it started right up thank you very much have a great day

    I've worked on my Craftsman brand Briggs & Stratton power washer for 3 days...I've watched about 12 youtube videos....changed gas, changed oil, changed spark plug...took the carb apart...it all looked clean and new...I was about to give up and junk it (it's too cheap to take to a shop)...and then I found your video. Mine was completely covered in rust...I sanded it off with my sander, and Wa-La...runs like a champ!! Thank you guys so much!!! Oh, it took 5 min's of sanding!!! Too easy!!!

    My Briggs & Stratton would not start either. I thought it was the carb or old gas but after fixing that, the same issue. Per this video, I popped off the cover and saw that I did have some rust, so sprayed some electrical contact cleaner on that metal wheel and scrubbed with small brush. After putting the cover back on, it started on first pull. Thank you!
    I used electrical contact cleaner because I had it. There was very little visible rust when I first examined it but steel wool, a small-fine wire brush or any number of other remedies to make that wheel shiny and clean probably would work just as well IMO. The contact clean is like magic for this application and many others around the garage.
    It is surprising how just a little rust makes it impossible to start. I learned today this has to be clean.

    Perfect fix! thank you so much. Engine was not turning over after puling cord. Followed your instructions, opened the cover and found a completely rusted wheel. Hit it with a belt sander for about two minutes. Started up again after a few pulls of the cord and started right up. Ran it for a few minutes, turned it off and then restarted a few more times to confirm. turned off again and let it sit for 20 minutes and restarted on first pull of the cord. Thank you so much for posting this video!

    Wanted to thank the two dudes who published this. I replaced the pump on my Troy built 2700 Pro (a few issues/irritations, but the cheap Chinese one for $80 seemingly will work- fit... if you do this - you might have to go buy longer bolts at hardware supposedly for some models, but mine was good out of the box... just three bolts and then rough house it out of the bottom of the motor/have to lay the machine down and pull it out like a baby cow coming out of momma - that is breached), then duck tape the engine to the frame when reinstalling, keeping your holes lined up...it was a bitch to try and bolt the pump on while the engine is falling off the frame on the other side)...Didn't work after the pump replacement and letting the water spirt out for like three/five minutes to actually get the air out (must do each time before starting). Finally - watched this video - I took my cover off and you can't see anything but rust. Going to do this fix today and hopefully... it now works. I'll replace the gas and oil if this doesn't do it. I used starter fluid (spray a little in the box which covers the filter and should start asap) - I did this and got it to run, but kept dying .... I'm assuming the rust is now the culprit and this is a "restored" machine. Pain in the ass for all this, but probably only about two-three hours total with ordering, installing, cussing, questioning why I didn't just go get a new one and trash this... But, since it was over $500 new.. I gave it a shot and think I"m good. Wanted to share what I found out along the way and thank the guys who helped me from tossing it after all this work....

However I was able to get a small wire brush attached to my power drill into the sides of the housing. Got those contacts met at strips all cleaned up. A little carburetor cleaner and starter fluid and I got my unit to run.

      I also have that same one and had problems getting it started. I thought my carb was gummed up so I started taking it off to clean it. After I took the air filter off I noticed that the on/off switch wire was looped over the throttle. I’m thinking it was keeping the gas from getting into fire. Rerouted the wire behind the fuel I think and have no issues. Figured this out after a year of having to pull the crap out of it to no avail. YMMV

    Brother you just saved another veteran from having a ptsd moment and chunking my pressure washer down the drive...literally(I’m the veteran btw)...I’d giving up hope and and just “UA-camd” one more time and your video popped up....I was skeptical cause I’ve UA-camd before and nothings worked. I did exactly what you did and she started right up...thanks brother...oh how often do you hunk I’d need to do this or check on it?..cause while the actual cleaning and removing rust were pretty easy and just took maybe a few minutes but the dang my crank is on the front not the top and it was a mother F er getting the whole engine cover off and on...I couldn’t pop the crank cover off like yours mine is frigging riveted on so I had to take the whole shroud off and the front tubing and tire are in the way and I had to remove the tire to get the shroud off and I really don’t know how I got the shroud back on but somehow and a lot of cussing it finally popped/flexed into place....thanks again and take care

    Previously, I had Honda machine, and it lasted for years without any issues. Troy-Bilt harder than heck to get to work since Day 1--definitely should have taken back--hindsight 20/20. This machine should start up each and every time with clean gas and proper care when new--and it does not. I do not have all day just to get Troy-Bilt just to start. There is no way I will buy anything ever again with the Troy-Bilt name.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 6 років тому +1

      Sounds like your coil is going bad, their newer ones aren't made as good as the old style, but any coil can go bad. When it gets too hot, engine dies, doesn't want to start, top symptom of a coil going bad and running intermittently.

    • @staticfx503
      @staticfx503 6 років тому

      it starts cold and runs as long as i want it... but if i shut it off (to take a break or refuel) i cant start it (its not very old)

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 6 років тому +1

      StaticFX okay, than your coil is fine. Your having issues with the auto choke or the carb. Make sure the auto choke mechanism above the carb did not end up in the wrong position, it happens. Make sure the long metal linkage that leads to it isnt bent if it is straighten it out. If that doesnt work something is going on with the carb, like its flooding creating a hard starting symptom. Make sure the needle valve on the float isnt stuck, that would be the most likely reason in their.
      Try using starting fluid when you go to start it back up. Spray a little in the carb behind the filter, that will act as a prime and start it until you can fix it.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 6 років тому

      Oh yea, just to make sure 100% its not that coil acting up, when you go to restart the engine after you used it, check and see if you have spark, the easiest way, again just shoot starting fluid into the carb, if it kicks over, than you know you have spark and its not the coil, you can also pull the spark plug, make sure the plug isnt fouled up or wet, maybe it is, after a long use, from there stick the plug back on the boot and hold the end against a bolt steel, not aluminum for good contact (or spark tester), pull the cord, you should see the plug zapping, if its not zapping than you know theirs an issue with spark, likely the coil, sometimes the spark plugs go bad, but after you said it runs as long as you need it to the first time, its most likely not spark or the coil unless its having issues during the cool down, most likely its the auto choke or issue with carb that is causing you problems on restart. Check the linkages and auto choke system first, if its not that you need to pop the bowl and make sure the needle valve on the float isnt sticking, while your in their, check and make sure theirs no sediment on the bottom of thr bowl and that the bowl nut, main jet (holes) arent blocked, if the are spray carb clean thru the holes, run a piece of wire thru than blow it out, preferably with compressed air. One of those things has to be the culprit. You could always remove the entire carb and clean it if you had too, but thats a last resort, you should not have to if it starts and runs one time, but wont on a restart, so thats what you need to check. In the mean time a little starting fluid will keep you going, if you spray it in before you go to restart.
      Let us know how you make out, I'm sure their are others dealing with this same problem. Their is also a black piece of plastic hooked in on the back of the engine. Make sure its hooked in properly, they say that covers and holds the governor properly, which controls the linkages to the carb.

      I don’t see how cleaning the flywheel fixed the engine from starting. The flywheel does not have to be cleaned as long as the magnets maintain the same distance from the pickups on the coil you are good. Also you do not have to have the flywheel in a certain position when when Putting the cover back on.
