  • On Sept 16, 2014, Leonard Cohen met with the press in London to preview his new album, Popular Problems, and answer questions. This recording is a broadcast of that session stripped of filler. Visual elements (eg, photos of the session) have been added but are NOT essential to the overall experience. Some viewers may enjoy the view; others may find it distracting. In any case, feel free to turn the video on, lean back, close your eyes, and just listen to 16 minutes of Leonard Cohen talking about songwriting, collaborating with Patrick Leonard, resuming smoking, his Jewish background, and more.

    I think Leonard was born gifted with the ability to express emotions, mixed with the every day life he witnessed, or experienced, and put to words in a way that makes his listeners think. Calmness in poetry that brings to light our everyday lives we fail to see and recognize until someone makes us take notice. Walk outside in the morning when all is quiet but the birds. They make you listen. That's what Leonard Cohen reminds me of.

      Also enjoy his sometimes wry sense of humor expressing his comments on life in general. Loved his comment on living next to the US as a Canadian: We watch America the way women watch men-very very carefully ua-cam.com/video/X3LVjTVpHHQ/v-deo.htmlm20s

    Alan, thank you so much for posting all these videos of LC. It's such a generous thing to do, and because of who Leonard was, brings so much joy and profundity to others. I assume from the photos that you knew LC personally. Lucky you.

    He always reminded me that life is a journey of individuality and of the heart and one we all must take alone to some degree.

    Thanks so much Allan for posting this amazing interview, but why couldn't you post him speaking live? Who was the audience made up of and what programme was it shown on, on the BBC? Thanks for a great interview with this true musical genius and intellectual.

    • @AllanShowalter
      @AllanShowalter  10 років тому +9

      The interview as a press event to promote the Popular Problems album so the audience was made up of journalists. It was broadcast with commercials, song snippets, etc on a BBC Radio program: Stuart Maconie hosts Leonard Cohen On 6 Music - originally broadcast Sept 28, 2014. If there is a video of the interview, it has not been broadcast.

    thank you for the misleading still where i thought i'd be watching this brilliant man speak, rather than listening to poor-quality audio.

      I am sorry you are disappointed, but there was no intent to deceive. The description indicates that visual elements were added and are only supplemental. The audio is that recorded by the BBC.
