I think that Perla and Julie were the most devoted to Leonard. They truly wanted to please him and make great music. They were simply the best singers he ever had, and he had some good ones.
"I could not slip away without telling you that I died in Greece was buried in that place where the donkey is tethered to the olive tree I will always be there". - Leonard Cohen
LC forever, I'm your fan
Yes, yes, yes, thank you for posting. I went to Hydra in 1988, and was told then that Leonard Cohen had just visited (I had been a fan since the early 60s). Now I was able to see a recording of his visit - wonderful!
Nice to See all these background information and all the connection to the songs he has written with somuch intense Spirit. A great gifted composer and Poet has left us. A great loss for this world we live in. R.I.P my Friend.
Brings back wonderful memories of my stay on this idyllic island in the early 1980s. Saw Leonard's house but he had returned to Canada a few weeks earlier. It was like a return to a primordial past---- so liberating not to have to be dodging cars or any other motor vehicles vehicals ----- just the odd donkey!
I loved listening to his songs. I like the way he explored life. I like that he discovered Greece and the beautiful island of Hydra. I visited Hydra last time in June 2019. And I saw the bank dedicated to his memory from his funs. Did you know that he was practicing Zen? Quite an interesting fellow. Rest in peace, Leonard!
Our Leonard! Hydra will always be your home,. Your sacred hideout. The street outside his door just took his name. We know that together with Marianne you are watching and smiling. R.I.P. dear friend.
I have a Greek friend who told me he spent good time with a man so modest and inspiring in his homeland...that man was Leonard Cohen. He had all your albums Leonard...his name was Michalis.
Hydra is really beautiful, now just a memory, on the west side, rocky cliffs, a windmill, a boy riding on a Dolphin.. I swam in the clearest water in the Aegean sea.
Leonard paid about $1000 for his house in 1960. I was on Hydra in 2017 and asked a local how much the house would be worth today. About $25 million he replied.

For reasons beyond me he was, is, and always will be The voice that gets to the bottom of my heart! Always brings forth tears! Thank you and RIP!
Maybe because his voice came from the bottom of his heart. So beautiful.

I wondered the same thing. Was Marianne's son Axel around at the time? At the 1:28 mark it sounds like the gentleman said "Bye Axel."
