I think Sankokushin was too ambitious. The words and phrases they used to describe the essence of their core gameplay sounded like a psychological textbook. No way they would be able to pull that off. It reminded me of the same verbiage bring used in Orange Nebula's Spirit Fire. Vague, esoteric terms with little codified mechanics. I love board game developers pushing the envelope with mechanics, theme, and storytelling. But at the end of the day, they have to be able to make it, which is the hard part.
Im so, so glad I passed on Escape from Arkham Asylum. Feel like I dodged a bullet. I've heard so many stories of bad experiences with that company. It also sounds like they got rid of the semi co-op aspect, which was a big draw for many. I didn't get the Sankokushin hype at all. Mainly because it was just lore dumps and minis, but no visible gameplay. Feel the same way about Celestial. Cool minis, but I could not wrap my head around the gameplay from the tiny bits that were shown. I really do need rule books or gemeplay videos or I just won't back anymore.
I’m excited I got a text that marvel zombies is arriving today. I’ve seen a lot of playthroughs and finally played through a few undead or alive missions and I really enjoy the zombicide system. Can’t wait to start painting. I am going to run the zombies vs heroes mode at dreamation 2024 in February. So 1 month of all painting for me coming up
I think this year you did very well to put two CMON games in first and second place of your most anticipated crowfunding campaign of 2024. With all its flaws, at the end of the day CMON is a certainty that the campaigns will be done and the games will arrive in not too long a time. And ultimately CMON games are very beautiful to play as well as to see and touch. They're surely not as ambitious as Sankokushin or Celestial but it's probably better to be hyped for less ambitious games that will exist soon than for overly ambitious games that will NEVER exist
100% man. I can have issues with how a company operates and still find their products well done. I don't tend to like Apple but own an iPad because their tablets are simply better than the Android alternatives. End of the day, as a consumer, I want something great for my money. I think CMON has some hits and some misses but I've always enjoyed their hits :)
I've basically given up on Sankokushin. The theme (mythical Japanese boss battle) was perfect! I'd rather have it than KDM. but after the postponing + the Sankokushin miniatures they are offering, I stopped caring. Maybe when the game drops I'll buy it, but the way their mini sculpting is going, It'll be closer to Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball the board game than KDM.
the latest update seemed to imply that Batman Escape from Arkham is basically just a full co op dungeon crawler now. I got a refund, just way too many red flags...
Not sure what you issue is with Chip Theory's art, personally It has some of the best art. I get that Too Many Bones has just a weird concept with the Gearlocks, but the Elder Scrolls art was fantastic, and wasn't the usual were going to just take renders from the vid game and make them the art.
I was really excited for Maladum but I was put off by the gameplay that showed tiny cardboard tokens, like some 80s boardgame!? I am happy to paint miniatures but I hate tiny game tokens that, at my age I struggle to see! Same with mini cards that have 2mm icons printed on! The terrain looks great and I might pick that up at retail. Celestial has been teased for years?! I have a celestial miniature, still packed and unbuilt, from my Deep Madness kickstarter, back in about 1953, or at least it seems that way. They must hold the record for the quickest campaign ever? I saw that it had launched, went to the page and it had already cancelled, about 2 or 3 hours later.
I'm still looking forward to Sanko, I've even been buying the resins, but the teasing just to lead to an indefinite delay did dampen the excitement quite a bit
Looks like what happened with sekokushin was they had vision and grand ideas but couldn’t find the right ways to implement it. It’s like Steve Jobs without Steve Wozniak

My most played game of the year was backing a game, then waiting, then canceling that backing. I think I played it 6 times maybe? Most recently DCeased. I LOVE DC comics. but I really dont think my crew would be into playing it. also Nemesis. Again, seemed like something we just wouldnt get around to playing. I did back Escape from Arkham Asylum (here's hoping) and Street Fighter. So. Thats something. I never actually backed Apiary but I did buy it and its fantastic. Sankokushin. I dont even care about the hype anymore. Its permanently burned into my brain. Im irritated by the meh I've seen all year. I dont care about the pinup minis. I just want to see it so it can be real. Maybe someday.
I agree. I initially backs and then cancel many games before the end of the campaign. I did back DCeased only because they did the cheap add on to get all the extra zombie types without having to buy expansions, and they took many of my ideas from comments and made characters on them (or I guessed extremely accurately) so it’s going to be a game for me. I’m 2023 I backed Heroes of might and magic 3 (but I’m like warm and might sell it without opening it) Zombicide white death - which looks like the best pure zombicide game ever made with the greatest variety and gameplay elements. Marvel United - multiverse (marvel United my number 3 game of all time) 2 games I’m taking a chance on Elder scrolls chip theory games Hunters 1492 Those above are the only new games I backed. I backed expansions and updates for my exsisting games like Tanaras Dungeon universalis Isofaren guard Hexplore it
most of these types of games arent selling games, theyre selling minis/toys. it is what it is. almost all of the disasters revolve around these games. part of the reason why the one company is selling girls in bikinis. sex and minis sell. again, it is what it is. Elder Scrolls has always had terrible art imo. i think CTG will make the game fun to play though, time will ultimately tell
Whoa... I never bothered looking until now - but those Axis Mundi "Sankokushin" minis are almost unbelievably boring!! No longer interested in the game. Not because it didn't look awesome, but because it seems clear the creative spark/drive has left the building

Fun fact, the medieval and other historic eras were not actually colourless. They were, if anything, rather garish by our standards :-)
Took your advice last year and made a list of what I thought u was going to back and definitely helped me back less this year.

I was torn between backing Andromeda's Edge and Arkham and I ended up backing Andromeda's Edge. Seems like I made the right choice.
