I think both are perfect for the context in which they were performed. The album version is nice and chill and good for its placement on the album. However, no one would want to hear it like that at a live show where everybody is hype and trying to rock out. I like bands that have an awareness for context and switch up their songs accordingly. Veruca Salt was always good at that. Their first album was near perfect, Imo but most songs were very slow paced. However their live performances were all high energy, the only exception being if they were doing a promo spot on TV where they would then try to be true to album.

lets not forget here : Butch Vig is one of the greatest alternative records engineer of his time : Nirvana , Smashing Pumpkins 2 first albums , the Melvins and more .... He is not the guitarist / mixing sounds and putting all together . What a great singer they had . I saw them back in the day in a small hall in the center of Brussels in 95 when they started ( where they found terrorists lately unfortunately ) .

Duke said she didn't perform any of the used guitar takes on BG, but Butch said a few of her takes were used on Bleed Like Me. As mutli-instrumentalists I suppose it doesn't matter in the end product.
