TRANSCRIPT: I do not know if you ever enquired into this question of attention, which is nothing whatsoever to do with concentration. Concentration implies resistance - thought wanders away and you try to control it in order to focus it on a particular thing, so there is a resistance. Whereas in attention there is no form of resistance. Therefore to be attentive, in that sense, completely, with your body, with your heart, with your mind, with your complete - everything that you have. You have to understand and be free of every form of resistance. Resistance arises when there is fear. Or the fear of not gaining, achieving, becoming, experiencing, which prevents attention. Now, when you give attention there is no entity who attends. It may be rather obtuse, rather unclear, but we will go into it a little bit. You’re listening now - are you attending? That is, giving attention without any form of resistance, not to what is being said but attending, giving your heart, your mind, your body, everything, so that you are completely attentive. Then if you are, you will see that there is no person or entity, a centre that is aware that it is attending. And we do this when we are profoundly interested in something. So, the brain, which is capable of such extraordinary things - going to the moon, living under the sea, the miracle of a television, the telephone, the jet, the shell that goes to kill people - the brain is so astonishingly capable. And that brain, we have not been able to bring about such order. And brain demands order; it rebels against disorder. I do not know if you have gone into this. Lord, there are so many things... You know, when you go to sleep, before going to sleep, if your day has been disorderly, confused, the brain as it sleeps, quietens down, puts everything in order for itself, otherwise it becomes disturbed, uncertain, unclear. I don’t know if you have done all these things, for the fun of it at least. Brain demands order, and that order can be brought about if you watch yourself in action throughout the day and take a stock of what has happened, or take stock as you are going along, so that at the moment of sleep the brain has order, and therefore the brain becomes more sensitive, alive. It’s a disorderly brain that makes for insensitivity. So, the brain is quiet, completely without any reaction, when there is attention. And this attention is not a thing you practice. It isn’t a thing… you going to say, ‘Well, I’ll be more attentive tomorrow, I’ll practice it.’ That’s our conditioning, to practice something which we don’t know, which we want to get, which we think will bring us happiness. What is important is not the duration of attention but the understanding and the observation of inattention. Right? Because when the mind, when the brain is aware how inattentive it is, then that very awareness of inattention becomes attention. Are we all following all this thing? Because you see, we are trying to come upon something that man has sought. Even the most confirmed communist must have an occasional glance at the sky, at the cloud, at the tree to find out the beauty of it. And beauty is not in the thing itself, in the building, in the… so on. I mustn’t go into that - sorry. So, when the brain is still, which is to be completely attentive, the totality of the mind, in which the brain is, becomes extraordinarily still. The quality of stillness matters. And that stillness can be brought about by superficial means or that stillness comes naturally, easily, without any effort, when you understand this whole process of knowing oneself so completely that there is no distortion. And there is distortion when there is any kind of effort. Then in that freedom, when the mind is completely still, then only is there a possibility of finding out, of - not ‘finding out’ - possibility of something other than time, thought, the past coming in and distorting. It is only then there is a possibility of that immensity to be seen. That immensity cannot be invited - how can a little mind, however erudite, however scholarly, however austere with its harshness, brutality, how can such a mind receive that which is… has no frontier, which has no time. So what matters is not to seek but to understand. Wisdom is greater than saintliness, for wisdom comes with the ending of sorrow. And the understanding of sorrow is to understand oneself. Then in the understanding of oneself so completely, there is quietness, there is beauty. And it is, after all, beauty is love, and without this, do what you will, that immensity, that nameless thing, cannot be.
My anxiety has sent me to the ER..made my life miserable, therefore I made it miserable for others..I stared observing my thoughts when anxiety started to rush thru my body, I observe it and ask " where does it come from? Where does it starts" and observe...it starting to disappear like clouds been dissolved..up till now is working for me 🙏
Learn to accept how the brain works. When it is in turmoil and has one of it`s svings. Learn to slow down and meditate and observing your mind. And just accept it`s " imperfectionism". The thoughts and feelings is not under your controll. Just let them pass in your brain like clouds on the sky. Always changeing. The sky is your abillity to " observe" and to see your feelings/thoughts rushing and changeing. That is the sky is always blue behind the clouds. It is always still. The clouds and the sky exist togetter. Dependent yet independent. " anxiety" is just the mind worrying about death, sickness ( mental and physical), fear of poverty, decay of the body true getting older, and worry about our TOTAL lack of controll over other peoples actions. These are observasjons and facts. In your meditasjon just sitt down and breath and lett the mind just do what it wants to do. When it is worryd. Lett it just be worryd. When you want to cry.. then cry. If you want to smile and laugh... then laugh. This is the way of zen meditasjon. It is as simple as this. There is nothing more to it " Don`t feed the monkey mind"
What I've understood from reading K's book "Freedom from the Known" is...the three concepts : Concentration, Attention and Awareness can be explained via an analogy. Suppose, there's a child. ( Think of it as your mind). He wishes to have fun and play. ( Other thoughts) You're asking him to sit and study.( Focusing on one important thought). There is resistance. You may force him to do that because, you're controlling him, he'd sit and study, but he won't bloom. He is interested in something else. This is concentration. Now when you bring into the picture Awareness, you are aware that the child wants to play and he "is" interested to play. Attention is, you give him the escape to play, but you keep observing him play very very minutely. So intently, that you feel like the you are him. This is what the observed and the observed being one means. You're not judging him for not studying nor are you forcing him to study. You're simply enjoying watching him. What happens when we are being watched? We get a bit uncomfortable. But that's because, we're conditioned that one thing is more important than the other. Think of child as an unconditioned being. Play as much as you want. Automatically, he'll end up playing all his games and sit quietly. Don't force. Let him settle down naturally. You're watching him. You've settled down as well. This is the nothingness. Complete silence.
What about when you are supposed to be up early for an unexpected meeting/work and can't sleep? If you try to force yourself to sleep so you can get up early wouldn't that be resistance? How to address that situation in light of what this gentleman is saying. This is just one example out of the numerous i have to understand this concept.
Good question but it depends upon your body demand sleep or you force yourself to sleep ,when you force yourself to sleep then there'll be conflict and when body demand sleep then you cannot keep it awake .before doing anything first you need to aware of the importance of sleep early after it you make sure your mind is thinking about irrelevant,if it then observe and aware of it .make sure your body is still means quiet I'm sure you will sleep but if make any effort to sleep you will be more awake .I have done this but k will say you are destroying your body sensitivity when feel hungry ,eat .when you feel, sleep.he will say change,i don't know😅😅😅
"What is important ...is not, the duration of Attention ... but the understanding and observation of Inattention. Because... when the Brain is aware, how Inattentive is... than that very awareness of Inattention ... becomes Attention". :)

Long consideration, I think Identifying with the present moment is the answer. by having this feeling in the present, you become completely in tune with it, without conflict.
I sometime wonder what are some of those deep secrets that JK took with him ...and those he could never convey to the world. Because, I often see him wanting to go much deeper into a subject and immediately pulling back from it by saying..."I must not go into it, sorry".
Therefore to be attentive, in that sense, completely, with your body, with your heart, with your mind, with your complete - everything that you have. Of course. I mean that's what I am trying to tell some special people since a while now. I am having troubles to keep up attention because my brain have thousands of thoughts at the same second. And I have this trouble since childhood. I don't even know when it exactly started so it must have started far before I can remember the first memory. And yet I still can concentrate. But I lose it pretty quick. Like all is good in one second and focus is given. The other second I lose the chord of thought, or however you say that in english. (literally translated) because one thought causes 1000 others. It's like a curse and gift at the same time. Because it gives me the possibility of researching causes and effects of anything and everything. I always thought everyone have that...but I guess I was wrong? Anyway, when there is attention or focus to something your brain knows only one thought. And that thought is pretty much bound to the thing your attention is directed to. It's strange, I am a thinker just like Krishnamurti and having almost the same kind of thoughts as I have seen in videos of him. And yet I feel so low beside him, like a stupid child with absolutely no experience or interest in thinking through anything. I love this special man and thinker. He really made some good points in his life. Especially the radical revolution of consciousness. If I remember that correctly. Thanks for sharing the video. Cheers
Walking on the rope is attention. Is it called quietness or tenseness ? Walking in the woods freely is not attention but the mind is at ease and quiter. Attention is like lifting a heavy weight and non attention is holding many pebbles in the hand. Neither states are in the best interests of a tranquil mind that lives in the present. Allowing the brain to think without resistance is not akin to thoughtless tranquility . To make it goalless is not attentiveness. To be attentive, to be resistance free, to be goalless, are all a sorts of thought about thoughts. It's like attending the thought.
Unfortunately practice has become necessary because we have longed form the habit of not being attentive and in order to know what this attention is, we do have to practice it to know what it is that we have done wrong or have been doing wrong. This is one of the many reason people don't get Jiddu. He talks as if everyone is on the level of understanding that he has and as if everyone will get it instantly.
It's not a brain, but mind. Mind is like a VR-set through which you percei´ve the reality/the "life" A brain is just a processor of data of which we perceive.
He is insisting on no resistance but trying hard to be free from resistance. He has only one medicine but patients are various. He is giving one medicine to everybody, that’s why his msg does not travel far.
Trying hard to fight resistance will increase the resistance. He is not giving any medicine or a path. He is asking us to look within and inquire more and more about ourselves. In meditation, there is no desire of any result.
AWARENESS always implies a reasoning process. For example I'm aware that it's going to rain because I've observed it running down in the distance and progressively approaching.. I'm aware that I ate too much because I feel my belly exploding.. I became aware of overthinking by purposely paying attention to it .. ATTENTION INSTEAD, is a state in which the brain only absorbs data through perceptions, without analysing/observing/reasoning/deducting etc. Did it help?
@@soniatiwari9986 you, mind it, "you" will not be able to find the beauty in green leaves. Beauty is when "you" are not. You seeking beauty is inattention. You seeking beauty is the image of the word beauty you will project with the help of your thoughts. And that is time. It will not be able to take you out of time which is the goal. Which you already are at. Just don't do anything. But that's again a kind of doing. Doing nothing. 😂 When the old you put in the deliberate effort it will not change you, it will help in retaining the old you.
Is there something like "A Life" an effortless life? Understanding something what j Krishnamurthy says or Wei wu Wei is not easy every conclusion leads to another delusional state of mind and thought. Can this happening what we call life is always because we perceive it by being judgemental of its Duality?
I disagree. Mind is not completely quiet when there is attention. Attention requires concentration on an object or a matter. Attention is like listening with concentration on an object or a matter. So where is 100% quietness in mind when it is in attention ? In that state, quietness is superficial not deep. Quietness is not complete. How could the mind be quiet while being fully engrossed in a subject matter ? In other words,we could say at best that Mind is quietly talking on a matter without audible sound. That is all. Mind is quieter in a state of meditation. Even in the state of meditation mind is not fully quiet as it is only a work in progress to nothingness. When there is only nothing in mind it can be said as being quiet. Meditation is a prelude rather a medium to a state of nothingness in mind. Mind becomes completely quiet only in nothingness.
Marimuthu AS I think that maybe you haven’t experienced an state of attention without any object in between or you’re putting a different meaning to the words attention and concentration (different to the meaning that the video is using), or most probably a combination of both. In the end, the meaning of words inside you, are limited by your experiences, but at the same time, understanding new concepts could lead you to live new experiences.
on the contrary, when fully engrossed in anything at hand, there is this effortless space when doing merges with being. being is nothingness, free, quiet, unobstructed, unconditional.
Forex if your child us sleeping, having an eye on him while you're working is attention...looking at him thoroughly without looking anywhere is concentration...so concentration is a thought where as attention is watching, seeing, listening, learning... So when your mind has many thoughts observing them is attention, but imagining something and not thinking is concentration again is another thought

Anxiety is a special power. You can feel your inner movements. A lot of the best meditators had anxiety as youngsters.

What matters is not to seek but to understand. Wisdom is greater than saintliness. For wisdom comes with the ending of sorrow.
Silence comes when you are in full presence of the present moment!!
I always felt that Jiddu Krishnamurti's wisdom is difficult to digest, being attentive we are able to get his knowledge easier
Exactly. Attention means to attend
"What is important ...is not, the duration of Attention ... but the understanding and observation of Inattention. Because... when the Brain is aware, how Inattentive is... than that very awareness of Inattention ... becomes Attention". :)

@@aryalsr And his Notebook and diaries.
Extraordinary 🙏
What is the difference between attention and awareness , l don't understand
When the old you put in the deliberate effort it will not change you, it will help in retaining the old you.

Belated birthday wishes.
Dharma Kshetre, Kuru Kshetre (!!!!!!!)
AMEN.
Of course. Very basic nature of the mind
It should be possible to dis/prove this now, using technology!
how so? and for that matter, for what purpose?
Attention to inattention= nothingness
It is ironic that Krishnamurti is as if a guru and his talks are similar to mantras... regardless it leaves alot to be meditated upon
Is there something like "A Life" an effortless life? Understanding something what j Krishnamurthy says or Wei wu Wei is not easy every conclusion leads to another delusional state of mind and thought. Can this happening what we call life is always because we perceive it by being judgemental of its Duality?
that's the contrary of delusional. It's just being totally aware always of reality
In total attention that is meditation according to jk
on the contrary, when fully engrossed in anything at hand, there is this effortless space when doing merges with being. being is nothingness, free, quiet, unobstructed, unconditional.
Attention and concentration are words
You need to understand first bcz you wrote attention requires concentration 🙏
Forex if your child us sleeping, having an eye on him while you're working is attention...looking at him thoroughly without looking anywhere is concentration...so concentration is a thought where as attention is watching, seeing, listening, learning...
So when your mind has many thoughts observing them is attention, but imagining something and not thinking is concentration again is another thought
Thank you
