It definitely can be because of the way it structures your mind. The keyboard is great to learn because it is the easiest way to picture fundamentals of music theory like scales, chords, intervals, etc. Everything is linearly laid out in front of you.

@monroe12478 definately.... i played bass for 2 years and couldn't get notes down (like 1st fret on E string is F) until i joined started playing marimba and piano as well.... now it comes to me without trying.......who'da thought playing Marimba helps with playing bass :P
