    So thrilling to have some of the varieties you mentioned - my sugar dragon and condor are both flowering for the first time - hoping they set fruit (I’m hand pollinating with mixed pollens) and I get to try both of those fruits for the first time! So thankful you’re making content like this for those of us newer dragonfruit growers!

    Thank you so much for your videos. Thanks to Richard and you I got a dragonfruit addiction. For me in Austria it is sometimes hard and very expensive to get this plants but I try my best to keep my 15 dragons happy and overwinter them in my house because our winter in zone 8a is waiting to kill them

    Glad to hear your rave review of Ax. Out of the 20 or so varieties I've been growing Ax is the only one that hasn't given me fruit yet but it's looking promising for this year. I remember thinking of the flowers were even better looking than Bruni, KVA and Connie Mayor but I forgot what it tastes like. Something to look forward to this year!

    1. Sugar Dragon
    2. American Beauty or Condor or G3
    3. Delight or La Verne Pink
    4. Bruni or Ax
    5. Some rare variety

    Really a great video as so many are not sure where to start. My choices are slightly different however you named a great group of 5.
    Hard to not squeeze darkstar, country roads, or depending on your taste buds a Asunta 3-5 in the mix.
    Too many choices

    What are your thoughts on having 4 different varieties on a 25g pot.I'm limited in back yard space and would love to have more than 5 kids.

    I live in Oregon, zone 8b, so will need to keep my plants in a greenhouse. Is it possible to get them to fruit while keeping the plant smaller?

    Rad buddy! What are your thoughts on foliar feeding dragons? I’ve started my dragon fruits this past November and have sprayed them twice the past 3 weeks.

      Yes, it's great and the plants love it. We use seaweed and have also used meal worm frass.

    Thanks Paul!!! Your videos are great! I have a question. I thought I heard that we need to prune or trim branches when those just showed up. I don't see that happened on this video. So what is your thought or recommendation about taking off some of these newly branches? Thank you Paul!

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  8 місяців тому

      It depends on the time of year, trellis set up, size of plant, and more. Channel the growth up and over something and keep low branches pruned off it some universal advice.

    Hi Paul. Love the videos you put out for us. Thanks! But speaking of "American Beauty", I just got my first flowers from this plant a week ago, but it seems not to have any pollen on/from the thistles on the four flowers that just bloomed. Is it normal or am I doing something wrong? I went as far as to pluck some of the thistles and rubbed them between my fingers.

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  Рік тому +2

      Sometimes the first flowers have no pollen, especially if it's cold in my experience. Also, bees will steal the pollen at dawn. I collect my pollen at night or at dusk.

    You forgot to mention:
    ☝️(Vietnamese white) ☝️
    due to the fact that it is a very strong white flesh variety; which (tolerates hot and cold weather) 🌡️🔥 ❄️🥶 ; which considered to be the (best choice to be used as a rootstock for other varieties to be grafted at) because of its strong roots stems branches 💪; which has strong pollen that you may you use to pollinate other self sterile varieties.

      You are right about it being a good first and a great rootstalk. Not the best tasting. We did recommend Bruni (White flesh ) for flower quality and the coconut flavor. Thanks for the comment

      For us, we have pocket gophers. They would eat the roots if the plant was in the ground. You can also grow them well in ground if your soil is well draining.

      Seeking to use the fruit myself and use both stems and fruit as feed stock for making plant food alongside many other plants I use for the same purpose.
      Being a cactus, the banches, alongside aloe Vera leaves and rain water will make a nutritious substitute for chlorinated tap water in my blends with extract of potato, carrot, mango, fish, etc in JADAM Liquid Fertiliser brews.
