Verdict: Bottom line you can't argue with Harley. Except Indian DID and give them a run for their money. In the end, both are solid, great bikes. Nothing wrong with riding either. Ride safe! ✌️
Doing research for this video, I stumbled across the Challenger Elite. I really like that bike! It's on the list for a potential future bike
For a three hour discussion, I was surprised how well it kept my interest, well done gents.
Clearly the best motorcycle is....
...the one you like and want!!
I'm blessed with three motorcycles;
Harley-Davidson Limited
Harley-Davidson Road King
Honda Gold Wing
My favorite is the Road King as it's the one that is the most fun, hands down. (They call it The King for a reason!)
The Limited is my local and mid-length touring machine, especially two up. I ride it solo when I want the amenities of music, CB, heated grips, etc..
The Gold Wing is our LONG distance mileage crusher. Almost exclusively two up and when traveling for long trips, we're usually pulling a Bushtec cargo trailer. It's also my wife's favorite.
Fortunately, I'm blessed and don't have to choose only one.
Ride what you want, but go ride!!
Agree 100%. After buying my new CVO, I thought that it would become my "favorite" motorcycle. It hasn't. My favorite is still my 2018 Road Glide Ultra. My newly acquired 22 Road Glide Limited is sitting in the corner on a motorcycle dolly. If it could talk, it would sing "nobody knows....the troubles I see, nobody knows my sorrows"
I think the CVO would be in tears, wondering why it is not loved!
Your singing voice is perfectly suited for text.
😂😂
Thank you gentlemen. Great information from men who know what their talking about; slow speed maneuvering, long range touring and an Indian ambassador. The range of experience and knowledge made for very interesting and informative discussions. I watched all three parts and appreciated the different perspectives.
Thanks for the feedback! The 3 of us have these types of conversations all the time! We decided to record this one. There will be more in the future
Your analysis of cost vs resale is spot on. Although no one can definitively state the reasons, the HD resale values really do hold. My recent CVO experience was a perfect example. I bought the 2019 RGS in 2018 at 27.5K. When I bought the CVO this year, 5 years later, I got 22.5K for the RGS. And for those who would say that was just a loss leader to sell the CVO, my traded-in RGS sold (At profit) within two weeks.
As for the rest of the discussion, it really does come down to the fact that both of those are terrific bikes, and you simply ride what makes you feel good.
Well said!
This was a fantastic series. I think ur resale and cost of ownership argument was the best point made. Although the initial cost of the HD is more you will get it back. I know that both rides are awsome. Great videos 👊🏾
Thanks for the feedback! There is more to come!
Loved this series. Great job guys. Indian is great looking and comfortable. It’s just not a Harley. Harley just has that something special you can’t describe.
Thanks for watching! I agree with you!
I really dig your channel and the guests you have on. You guys talk specifics and technicalities without making it a understandable to only a master technician. Nor is it a clown show with no content. Thanks for doing this.
Thanks for the feedback! Be sure to check out the first 2 episodes (if you haven't already done so). We will be collaborating on more content in the future, so stay tuned!
Great series, good conversation. I’ve ridden both, and own a Pursuit Premium. Both are great with their own character. I don’t like that the quick release bags are now an option, whereas previously they were on every bike. As for rear lighting for Indian, check out the RydeCulture lights. I really enjoyed the CVO. It was too smooth. Good power, and felt “solid”. The touchscreen takes tech one step beyond the Pursuit. I don’t like the price on either!
I was really disappointed that HD didn't "steal" the touch screen adjustable suspension from Indian. In my opinion, that is one of the best (unique) features that Indian has.
I'd have to agree with the too smooth comment. As an owner of an M8 powered Ultra as well as a twin cam, it does indeed feel too smooth. If it was as quick as the Indian it would be fine, but I'd dare say it doesn't quite feel like the harleys I've ridden for 40 years.
You’re absolutely amazing
Great conversation, gentlemen!
Bmw k1600 or the rt 1250 are the other bikes you'd want to look at. Not v twin but man are they comfortable bikes. This was a great series and great points on both bikes. I also have a '18 heritage and honestly all bikes have their place. Ride safe ride often.
Thank you! I think it's the K1600 that I like.
I have a 2018 Heritage 114, a 2022 Low Rider st, and a 2023 Highway King and my Heritage is my favorite bike.It does everything great.
All of those additions sound nice but they'd increase the cost of the unit.
I have both Road Glide and batwing and all I can say is that the Batwing is more twitchy if you ride the road glide more because your used to the Road Glide but if you ride the Batwing more you wouldn’t notice it
I had a Street Glide too. It's not a major difference, but it's noticeable. I will probably get another Street Glide soon
It's about to go down!! 🔥
There is more to come! We are planning our next "garage talk" video. Hope to have it out before the end of the year.
@@RidingandWrenching that's what I want to hear!! I'll bring the beer! 🍻
Too often this topic/videos always ends with someone getting butt hurt lol. Its nice to see 3 grown men having opinions and recognizing both brands make great bikes despite their differences. I made the switch to Indian a couple years ago from HD. My biggest complaint with my RGS was the suspension. I spent several thousand dollars on different brands front and back and never found an aftermarket product that i was happy with. I would love to see a mono shock for HD. Indian...for me is a better ride right out of the crate in my opinion. However, i agree with Cue about the vibration felt throughout the bike at higher rpms. Great points gentlemen. Thanks again!
I wish I knew why single shock is better. Intuitively it doesn't make sense. If one shock is good, two shocks should be great! But I'm not an expert.
I agree 100% that Indian is more comfortable out of the box. The Special models of HD have the worst suspension. I'm actually surprised that HD puts that crap on a motprcycle
this was dope.. watched all 3.. #TeamIndian
We had a good time making this series. We will be doing other videos in the future.
Group chat is a good thing.
A great series! Please keep the CVO content coming. I just picked up the RG a couple weeks ago and couldn't agree more that the seat, although it looks good (IMO), is not comfortable for any extended riding. Looking for a good 2 up touring seat.
Contact Badboyz Cycles. They are out of California. They are reworking my stock seat now. I will do a video on it when my seat arrives.
I have some more CVO content on the way. It's tough being a one man show!
Thanks! I know Corbin has a couple options out as well. Not seeing anything from Saddlemen yet. It's hard for me to shell out the $$ on a seat based on photos alone. Thanks again for the great CVO content!
They've had one hole oil in many bikes for years with no issues. Look at Japanese liter bikes. Also his point of putting isolators on the floor boards of the Pursuit isn't necessarily a fact. I own a Road King Classic. A Victory and a 2023 Pursuit Dark Horse premium. The floorboard vibration he claims isn't even noticeable on any of my bikes. Very good video series! Lots of great points made. Will definitely keep watching!
I'm a big fan of the floor board isolators. They aren't necessarily but they make a difference in long distance riding comfort
@RidingandWrenching Went out and looked at my 2023 Pursuit Dark Horse Premium and looked at how the footboard attaches. It is basically rubber pegs that snap into the metal portion of the floorboard mount. So, in effect, they are isolated, albeit not exactly the same as HD. Thought you might like to know.
I would like to see one of you guys get the 112 big bore kit by M3 and the Lloyds cams and intake with the Hoonies tune! For the Indian. And I totally agree about there’s not enough lights for the Indian I’ve been riding for years and I have almost been hit a dozen times at night because they say they can’t see me, in my opinion the more lights the better no matter what you ride!!!
If I ever get a chance to try it out, I'll post an update. I hope to take an Indian on a long distance ride some day.
I haven't got around to commenting on all but I watched. To sum it up. Harley wins with aftermarket support.
Dealer network.
Indian wins
Suspension
Motor anesthetics
Harley wins with fuel economy too
When you guys were talking about the rear suspension, the Mono-shock is far superior to the Harley set up. Prior to my 2017 Ultra Limited, I had a 2010 Victory Vision. It had a Fox Air Mono-shock, and it was the bomb. You had to make sure that your air bladder was aired up to the proper pressure for you riding weight, but once adjusted correctly, it was super good. Harley needs to completely re-do the rear suspension and the Mono-shock is the way to go. I really like the new CVOs, but they desperately needed to update the rear suspension!!!
I hear you. I still want to understand the technical reasons why a mono-shock is better. I've seen them on lighter bikes and they seem to be fine. What makes them better though? If one shock is good, shouldn't 2 be better?
It's a solid rear axle vs independent rear suspension on a Suv. It's the balance of the energy transferred into the frame and seat.
Robert Simmons, they have the bar and shield in black chrome. I agree with u that they should have put a CVO badge on the new bike
I like the tank logo's on the CVO. I also like the tank logos on the other 23 models with the copper look to them.
Great work how is the CVO running!!
I haven't ridden it much in the last month. My favorite bike is still my 2018 RG (Ida Lee).
It’s not a smart move to buy a motorcycle period but we do
Agreed!
The seats on the Indian look WAY better than the seats on the CVO
The Indian seats are certainly more comfortable
Great Video...I subscribe to all three of you guy, but sorry Finnesse...tried to hard to defend Indian🙅♂. I own Two Indians (Pursuit and FTR), a Buell and three Harleys. I switched to Indian for new bike purchases based on bad dealership experiences at 3 dealerships in 2 different states; not because I didn't like Harley bikes. I demo rode a new CVO and have to disagree with Finnesse---that bike is worlds apart from what it is replacing for Harley. I felt that it was smoother than my Pursuit , better at slow speed maneuvers, and would most likely hang with but not lose a Challenger/Pursuit for those wanting to measure 'Pencil' size. Both are great bikes from two great American Motorcycle companies employing fellow Americans that make these great machines.
Thank you! I love my CVO...but Harley needs to address all of the glitches.
Cue your so smart
Thank you for the feedback! I really appreciate it!
Every time brothers get together to have a spirited conversation, there's ALWAYS one knucklehead that doesn't want to listen to anybody else's opinion.
😳😳I didn't mean to be a knucklehead!
For me to look at the CVO, I need the mono shock setup like the Elite, and a different front fairing, i think the new cvo is hideous. Other than that and lowering the price by 5k is be all in
Looks are subjective. I don't understand why a monoshock is better/worse than dual shocks. Given the weight of these bikes, it seems that 2 would be better. But I'm not a suspension expert. I'm going to reach out to HD and Indian to see if I can get an answer
I would take a base model Indian-and actually I have done exactly that, before spending a dime of my money on an HD ESPECIALLY a CVO. My base comes with everything offered on a CVO with 100 years worth of newer engine tech. Sycophant comes to mind when describing a person who thinks HD is a better bike. But hey, it's your money, get what you want. If you value your labor, you'll buy an Indian...
Insulting someone is the least effective way to convince someone to agree with you.
I disagree with a key point you mentioned. Polaris has not been making motorcycles for 100 years. About 15 years ago, they revived the Indian brand by relabeling Victory motorcycles. That's not to say that Polaris makes bad motorcycles
So the Indian is missing a $10 Lowes garage door opener, but has electronic preload suspension and an adjustable windshield. Yeah, if Honda didn't make the Wing, and BMW the K1600GA, I'd buy the Indian.
I think he was referring to the built in garage door opener on the CVO. Our goal in this video was to discuss the differences between these bikes.
Speed and power is also considered “the ride” Finesse is one sided
To me neither one of these bikes are worth that much money, even though they are very nice bikes. The value is in a used bike unless you have to have new... Then again today nothing is worth what it cost..
Definitely more value buying a used a bike.
Wow what a great series! I’m eagerly awaiting the next one!👍🏾
