In 9 minutes you tought me more about the french revolution than my teacher in 2-3 months.
wait you were awake in history class?
but will you remember every bit of it?
true
Alexander Grote in about 156 minutes Mike Duncan taught me more about the French Revolution then my history teachers in 4 years
Alexander Grote true
I love the little jokes he slips in the drawings
Lauren Sun the best one he slipped in was the x-men joke in his missile crisis video
Laura sun the best was the cigar nuke
Obi I agree
Python was the best
U first watch oversimplified...
This is really well done. You've managed to condense a complicated subject without losing too much of the important information.
"... wait if France is broke, why do the King and Queen still wear such fancy dresses?"
"Let's overthrow the palace and cut all their heads off!" said Robespierre, cutting everybody's head off until someone eventually got mad and cut his head off.
history of the world i guess
You could make a religion out of this
@@keremkaya2394 no please don't

@@musicalbininja0356 We already did make a religion about mass murder by beheading. It's called Islam.
Wow Tennis is old
Actually, Tennis game (or Jeu de paume, i.e. game of hand) was quite different from today's tennis (although modern tennis derives from jeu de pomme or "real tennis")
Adam Kurowski Jeu de pomme sounds fun. Don't the apples bounce awkwardly though?

Damn, I'm French and I can say that you are entirely right on every thing. We can see that you've done a very good job, resuming a theme as complex as the French Revolution in some minutes it's really gard but you did it ! Great video ! We can see that you work your subjects, and further more it must take a long time to draw all those characters ! you won one subscriber. If you're doing that on your own, you really have talent.
you made a typo
Can you imagine living through the French Revolution? What an interesting time to be alive
I learned more in this video than I ever did in World History class, thank you. :)
+Loida Perez maybe you should've paid attention instead of wishing to get out of the class
+Berns Games Wow, what are you? You think you know everything, huh?
Loida Perez "what are you" I'm a human and no I don't think I know everything but I know that not paying attention in class is probably why you didn't learn anything. I mean like it's not like you're going to remember anything from this video anyway so your comment is pretty useless.
+Berns Games Well I mean she can remember some key points..
Dy1Pick3ls yeah but still
This is honestly FANTASTIC! Love the illustrations :)
Thank you so much for this video. I am in AP European History and right now we are having lectures about the French Revolution and honestly this is one of the most helpful videos I have yet to have found. Next lectures are about the Napoleonic Wars (Europe) So I hope to come back to your channel!
Please cover the "star wars"
Apperently it happened a long time ago in a far, far place so it shouldnt be hard

Thanks for the videos, great job!
I'm using this video for an assignment! Thanks for making a really engaging and interesting video without bias. You really don't know how hard these are to come by!!
We were learning about this in my history class.. i learned more here in 10 mins than those 20 hours of class time... :/ ty sir. I just disabled adblock and refreshed this page in order for you to get the "ad-Money"

You're the best man. Thanks for making this amazing vid.
fantastic channel man, hope your style and genre become more mainstream (you get more popular)
Wow, I just found this today, but already subbed and loving the videos...
If your looking for suggestions... here is one.
Give yourself a channel name.
I feel like I'm going to be sharing your videos, but telling someone to Google John D Ruddy, would be somewhat hard to do...
(I do suggest having credits listed, so people know it's you, but just not have it be the channel name)
Could you do the civil war, 1812, Mexican American War, Vietnam War, and everything else.
He probably will he left a spoiler for his American War for Independence video, it was about the civil war.
Australia hasn't had one. We're nice.
Yeah, for hunting animals lol
Waltiswicked emu war
Thanks for this. I've read a couple of large books and seen many documentaries on the French Revolution. But seeing the whole thing in 9 minutes is a great way of keeping track and not getting bogged down in the middle. Watch this a few times and then read those books is I think the perfect combination.
Your videos are always the best learning tool, seriously this really helped my studies for my history exam, keep doing what you're doing , and always will love your videos!
maybe do the crimean war? that would be a good video to see. also, you should do a video of the characters you have drawn do things like handstands.
I refer you to the two gentlemen at the bottom of the screen.
waaaay ahead of ya ;)

Thank you this information was very usefull and the drawings made me understand everything too. It might be easy to get confused when you talk about a lot of different things at the same time, but with the pictures it made the video very helpfull ^^
Extremely interesting content with nice illustration!!!
Next, could be many things: napoleonic wars (plus the war of 1812), american revolution, american civil war, chinese civil war, the creation and fall of the ussr, rise and fall of the british empire, korean war and vietnam war, yugoslav wars, falklands war/crisis, seven years war
the characters remind me of "fly guy"
look it up, you will get it.
Your videos are amazing. You have earned my subscribtion
Very informative... Much better than Crash Course. Keep up the good work! Thanks!

Great video! Eagerly awaiting one on the Napoleanic wars now
3:48 - the "not to scale" notices were super helpful.
Your claim that enlightenment thinkers questioned faith and imputed a secular government is quite suspect. First, the majority of enlightenment thinkers were devoutly religious (Francis Bacon, Isaac Newton, Renee Descartes, Kant, Galileo, Kepler, Kierkegaard etc...). Bacon who originally formulated the scientific method did not to so to offer some kind of alternative to God but a way in which to accurately study God's creation. This attitude was prevalent over much of enlightenment thinking.
Secondly, the formation of a democratic style of government implemented in France and the U.S. was directly tied to the concept that human rights originated from God (you find this explicitly stated in the declaration of independence). While the religion = evil monarch and democracy = secular progress narrative is popular it isn't actually reflective of what went on historically.
Still a great video! I enjoyed it!
of course yea, the "who is this god person anyway?" bit was just a little douglas adams reference! :D I think the reign of terror is a prime example of extreme secularism gone waaaaay too far. I'm not anti-religion, I'm anti-killing-in-the-name-of-something!
glad you liked the video!

Even Irish Independence?
RudtheSpud
Great video by the way!
well the Irish republic was run by the catholic church for decades! :/

Sometime could you do the Mexican-American war?
This is perfect I'm auditioning for the musical les mis at college today and I woke up and saw this
Thanks so much your videos are always great !!
Nice summation. Thanks.
It sounds like the US was a little ungrateful to France after helping in the independence.
It also seems these wars is why France lost in the world wars. It didn't want more to do with these wars and BS.
I have a little more respect for France now.
Daniel Hernández there was a big debate in USA whether or not to help Revolutionary France. One one hand, it was the old royal regime which helped the States in their independence, so the likes of John Adams thought it wouldn't be right to help their enemies. The likes of Thomas Jefferson wanted to help the revolutionaries because they were fighting for a New republic just like the States had done.
@@JohnDRuddyMannyMan great video..
@benjamin verdier le connard Don't forget Russia
benjamin verdier le connard if not for England or America France would have collapsed. Either at the Marne in 14. August 15. Or Verdun In 16. Nivelle In 17 they were propped up by britin
@Daniel Hernandez France didn’t like england. France never did it out of love for US Revolution. France didn’t want to help at first. They helped the US Revolution until they were sure the war was going to be won...they came at the end!!
ur speaking too quick :S

Yay for history. I hope you make more videos soon
Vive la France, Vive l'Empereur !!!
THE TITLE IS MISLEADING.
It is 10:16, not 9 mins.
B Wong 1) If you watch the ENTIRE video it's 10:16.
2) 9:50 is not 9:00.
***** Dude, I've got a life. I've got a family. I got friends. I got more than just the internet. If I were on here 24/7 then I'd have replied at 4:54 PM. Nope. 8:47 PM. (GMT)
***** When I am on the internet I am usually on youtube or some other form of video sharing and watching. Or Wikipedia. Or Wikias. Also youtube isn't the only thing that has a little bell in the corner that has your notifications from your Google account. Google does, New Tabs do, Google Applications do and basically anything Google related.
***** 'Can't admit your wrong'
1) How do you know what I do to day to day basis? I can't be on it all day because of school and work, and I am still active, going to a park and stuffs.
2) I don't watch porn :/.
3) Try and hit the 'reply' button or type
+ and the persons name, as then I can see Ykeloy Radford, isn't that right ***** ?
But the point here is that the 'history lesson' ended within 9 minutes. "The French Revolution in 9 Minutes". The title is not misleading, as this person explained the French Revolution within 9 minutes.
I'm not talking about the video length, just the length this person was talking about the French Revolution.
There you have it.
Wow, it has only been a month since your last video. Most people tend to have much longer breaks. You must worked very hard on this. Thank you.
This is very good history channel and I also love the art

Thanks for the really good revision aid - I have my exam tomorrow and you helped simplify it quickly and easily
Need to speak slow. Sounds like Microsoft's text-to-speech thing/bot/app
But good cartoons
ur going too fast its very difficult to understand bt thanxx..
This is way better than crash course. You make subtle jokes and references but dont distract from the video, in addition you can string together a coherent sentence without a shitload of jump cuts. good on you m80
Thank you very much! I'm a History teacher, strangely Miss Ruddy, and this will come in very useful.
Is this draw or animated?
What do you mean?
John D Ruddy he means do you draw your artwork and have it go by each picture or do you animate it all
Mr. Skull it looks like he drew it and then scan it with additional editing if needed
It's most likely digitally drawn.
Drawn on a white board.
Great summary but WAY TOO FAST! Since it takes ONLY 10 min. to present this video, PLEASE SLOW DOWN. Thanks a lot😊
Pause the video and take notes. That's the only advice that is to be given to adress this situation.
Xyz Xyz then I would be 15 min
I love your videos they are the thing to watch before exams
Thank you so much for including important details!!!! Thanks!! I have a final for AP Euro tomorrow ㅠㅠ
French were and still are insane! Our beloved President John Adams simplified the French Revolution like this: Monarchy, into anarchy and back to monarchy!" French tend to be proud of the French Revolution but there isn't a damn thing to be proud of!
Rage Blanket That's one of the silliest things I've ever heard about the French Revolution. The French Revolution spread the ideas of anti-monarchism, democracy and equality before the law to all the nations of Europe. It spread these revolutionary ideas to Latin America when Napoleon (who was a product of the French Revolution; Napoleon would not have happened without the French Revolution) conquered Spain and Portugal and the Latin American colonies rebelled, using the very same ideas espoused by the French revolutionaries to start their own revolutions. The slaves of St. Domingue, France's richest sugar colony, were directly inspired by the French Revolution and started the biggest and most successful slave uprising in human history, creating the new nation of Haiti. The Code Napoleon is the basis for civil law systems throughout the world, and this Code enshrined most of the ideas of the French Revolution. And on and on and on. The French Revolution shook the world, and was far more influential than any other revolution, including the American one.
Rage Blanket that's a dumb comment, the French Revolution changed France, Europe and the World for ever. That thing you're saying is what the North Korean government tells to its people to not get it revolting, but it's absolutely false
Luboman411 you just made my point! insane!
Pipsy yeah it was a great "how to" manual on how not to carry out a revolution.
