    According to the BBC History magazine (in), "There were 53 major conflicts in Europe. France has been a belligerent in 49 of them, and in the UK 43. Among the battles that France has delivered over the past 800 years 185 his armies have won 132 of them, and have lost 43, leaving only 10 battles undecided. Thus giving the French military record of victories in Europe. "

      +linkid17 it's an old British name for the French. it comes from a true story that in ww1 the British troops thought that a massive German army was running towards them. when they got close, the British saw that it was an entire French army retreating.

      +redarrowhead2 The reason why the joke "French only surrender" exists is because they were the only fucking European nation at the time to stand up to hitler, outmanned, outgunned and obviously aware they would lose but still refused to surrender
      The amount of balls it had to stand up to Hitler was insane and still France refused to surrender
      How about next time you finish 8th grade world history before bashing on France

      ElUnico Y AuntenticoCrack did you know Greece's army had the highest resistance in world war 2? Refusing to surrender to the German's without putting up a fight (217 days I believe). This had a great impact in the German morale and fatigue since they had to travel to Russia after.

      False false and false. France had a natural defensinve strategic advantage, an awesome maginot line to support its defense, numerical and technological armored divisions superiority, an actual navy, huge number of colonies permanently bringing resources to mainland, lend lease, commercial and military aid from UK, Netherlands and Belgium.
      And it felt in 1 month against a humiliated Germany, who had to pay a colossal tribute during the republic time, whose army was reduced to 100.000, also losing 1/8 of population and territory in the previous war(at the peace treaty!) and whose only significant advantage was the aerial combat(and even there, the uk had comparable technology and numbers).
      So, what is your excuse for surrendering, le baguette?

      @Anglo-Celtic Mega Nationalist Give me the most important inventions of the world, i'll give you french.
      The internal combustion engine, the refining of oil, aviation (yeah, the wright bros were second to Clement Ader, change my mind), the railway (first railway line was in france), the car (1679 Cugnot), the gothic architecture (and the romanesque architecture for that matter), the first state run printing presses, Photography, color photography, film, microprocessor, microchip, radar (not british, sorry), sonar (not british, sorry), parachute, the notation of music, vaccines (although i understand that there's a large anti-vax movement in anglo saxon countries, that's a byproduct of being a backwards shithole), the big bang theory, a modern democracy that works (sorry america, nothing like the direct suffrage to elect a president), the principles of atomic fission, radiology and radiotherapy, modern military medicine, etc...
      The british invented the concentration camps in South Africa. And the pennicilin because their scientists were so bad they actually forgot their petri dishes out in the open. Oh, and the anglo saxons created capitalism. A hell of a track record in my book. Good job, maybe we'll give you a pat on the back.

      @@SamAronowSweden was fine with the weather, and Russians suffered the winter alot as well, it's a stupid stereotype that Russian winter defeates everyone. Who beat Russia in WW1? Germany. Who destroyed an almost 4 times larger and fortified Russian army, during a winter (and huge snow storm) in Narva, modern day Estonia? Sweden. Who captured Moscow, gave a string of defeats to Russia? Napoleon Bonaparte I and the French. The French did not retreat from Russia because of winter. The retreat started months before winter. The winter just made the retreat more harsh. The French during their time in Russia, were harassed by partisans and the Cossacks, when they were also very low on supplies. Many people who actually study history and not just watch inaccurate memes, are sick of People who say Russian winter this and Russian winter that. Just saying, that the Russian winter never saved Russia.

    Only the greatest military genius in history would be able to do this. Having studied the Napoleonic wars once, I was convinced of his genius and greatness and became a big fan of him. (I still have him as my profile pic)
    Alexander is overrated. Perhaps anyone else could invade a weak Persia and conquered it but could Alexander hold out and defeat waves of coalitions led by all the European major powers at their prime having a bankrupted nation, ravaged by poverty, rebellions, mass homicides and inflation at your side? Heck, anyone else could? I very much doubt it.
    Too bad our stupid education (influenced by British propaganda) makes us remember him for that one battle he lost against an army twice his size while having the stupid Michel Ney lead it instead of the tons of impossible ones he actually won.

    • @DBeiki
      @DBeiki 8 років тому +86

      He didn't invade russia in the winter, that's the whole point. He knew of the dangers of winter, on his way back from moscow is when winter fell, and it fell hard.
      People are just misinformed about Napoleon. Truly a great man. Not a perfect man, but definitely great.

      Do you have any knowledge of history at all? Most kids out there associate Napoleon with, like Hitler or smt and you seem to be one.
      It's an easily debunkable statement you're making. Did anyone ever tell you before that all those wars Napoleon fought in weren't started by him but by his enemies? Do you know anything about the French revolution and what it caused to the rest of the monarchs in Europe? Do even know what a coalition is?
      You still have the nerve to come up and shout up shit thinking they're undisputable facts. It seems the finger that's pointing at me is itself covered with filth.

    • @DBeiki
      @DBeiki 8 років тому +33

      It's all relative mate, France should be seen as a hero to the french people.
      France post-revolution was in shambles and they had many enemies since all the monarchs felt threatened of france's new libertarian ways. (And in fact france was already at war with austria in Italy before Napoleon was even in power)
      So we can hardly say napoleon caused those wars.
      HIm coming back from exile is an exception since the whole of europe actually declared war on him, not France. But tbh, the only reason he came back was that the monarchy in france was unpopular and everyone in france wanted him back.
      We can argue that without Napoleon, there wouldn't be a france as we know it, and there certainly wouldn't be Europe as we know it.
      He's the one who first brought the continent together, coming up with the metric system, he even wanted to make them all have the same money.
      I don't deny that Napoleon has done some bad, after all every world leader has.
      But imo he's done more good than bad, especially for France.
      And that is why, yes, he can and should be seen as a hero to this day. At least to the french people.

      Great reply! Just want to add that without his unprecendented measures to emancipate the minorities in his Empire like the Jews, show tolerance and high respect towards Islam, become a strong patron of Science and Mathematics to oversee the greatest generation of European thinkers before the Quantum Era began, realise the importance of cultural, linguistic and national identity to directly or indirectly create nations like Italy, Poland, Germany, all of Europe, not only France, would be in a worse condition today

It was two way victory because goal of Kutusov was to hold Napoleon while Moscow was being prepared for surrender, goal of Napoleon was simply get field. He used vantage of long distances, partizans and terrible French supply. If it were not for the tsar's mistakes, then this battle could not have been at all, as Kutuzov had planned. If you will google way of invasion you will see that Kutusov led Napoleon by one way and turn him back by absolute same way without chances to get food and arsenal from another cities. cynderfan2233 It wasn't an invasion because Austria didn't fight back. It was like a mutually agreed occupation.

      Panurge No, still not a world war, there's china, japan, Korea, and a bunch of other countries that didn't be included or participated in the war, So technically it wasn't a world war.

      It's easier to determine a victor based on the amount of white houses burned.

    • @rattlebbones6651
      @rattlebbones6651 7 років тому +1

      Wunder Waffe ok idiot here we go. By definition the White House never existed at that time as it was referred to the presidents house until rebuilt and renamed the White House so their was actually no White House that got burned down. So determine the victor now.

      @rattlebbones6651 7 років тому

      Redcoat 142 well I'm not trying to argue what u said and I agree it's just that the communication system at that time was not just bad in the US but the whole world and New Orleans should definitely still count due to the fact that it was still a battle being fought in the name of the war

    • @razvansale4384
      @razvansale4384 7 років тому

      Rattlebbones 66 You arrogant murican I see. Fairly well. But regardless of how you want to call it , it was still burned to ashes. I will call it the official residence of the us president if you wish , but that wont change the fact that it burned to the ground

    • @rattlebbones6651
      @rattlebbones6651 7 років тому

      Redcoat 142 yea people knew in London that the war was over because the treaty was signed over their. It took just as much time for the Bite in America to find out as well or else they would have never engaged in the battle of New Orleans

    Pretty good summary! One small point... the correct phrase (post Trafalgar) is "Britannia rule the waves!" It is a wish, not a boast.
