The fact that Grey takes care of a puppy makes Grey totally human again, even though you'd think he is a robot and would not be able to relate to a puppy.
Hey Brady! I listened to this in the ER while being treated for a severe asthma attack. They were putting an IV in me and all the while with my free hand I was opening UA-cam to listen to HI. Made my couple hours on the mask much more enjoyable! Thanks Brady and Grey!
Glad to see the old thumbnail design is back. The one for episode 92 made it a lot harder to tell which episode it was. EDIT: Nevermind, they changed the thumbnail. well, at least we got the large "92" on episode 92.
I disagree that goofy astronauts are not useful to drawn people into science. An adult or a teenager who hates math will be not affected by astronauts in Spiderman costume but a 5-7 year old kid will. And this is a brilliant motivational lie "Oh Jimmy you want be an astronaut? Well you need to work extra hard on math when you start school next year!". And yes Jimmy will never become an astronaut but this initial kick of motivation to go into math might be very useful. When I was a kid I loved Dexter Lab cartoon (and "Pinky and the Brain"), I wanted to be crazy scientist and build crazy machines and robots and my parents couldn't be happier that it was my dream job. This resonated in me for years, literally stick to me as half of my family was jokingly saying that I will become a scientist for amny years. I wasn't that good in physics, biology, chemistry or even maths, but I always gave some effort and pay attention on lessons, when a lot of my friends just didn't care (sometimes imitating animal noises to signal their disinterest in the subject) and were satisfied with the minimum that gave them the pass to the next year. I went into technical high school, took automation and IT courses in Uni and now I work as IT engineer, writing code for industrial electronics. Far away from my childhood dream of having my own lab were I build robots and other crazy stuff, but still a useful STEM job. My advice is: If you kid goes to you and tells you that it want to become an astronaut because it wants to have an Halloween party in space just go with it, don't explain that it is not what astronauts do everyday just encourage it to work towards it. Kid will figure out in its time that it probably isn't going to happen but there might be enough inertia to push it towards STEM.
Also, if you want a true programming challenge, might I recommend the Border Collie model? It runs incredibly efficiently, comes with built-in aptitude for natural language processing, and is capable of a multitude of customizable functions, but has a high probability of value drift and can trend to instrumental convergence without proper oversight. And they look really cute with red scarves.
24:33 EXACTLY. I'm second year physics, and I'm here because I like the mathematics. My take on encouraging physics majors is to develop positive prejudice towards early mathematics education.
Hi Brady, I just thought I'd say that I've just finished a degree in medicinal chemistry, and what I've found is that the most interesting and fun chemistry doesn't necessarily involve obscure or rare elements themselves but mostly involve interesting compounds of common elements, namely the field of organic chemistry. The vast majority of the elements are metals and very boring ones at that, and I think exploring some more organic chemistry or inorganic complex chemistry would be a goldmine of interesting content. I just don't think a lot the elements themselves have much going for them in terms of interesting uses (obviously there are exceptions to this). My favourite periodic videos are the videos on Caffeine extraction, sarin and VX gas, and "very fast death factor" to name a few. I agree that there is a certain appeal towards having 118 videos in glorious 1080p all at a reasonable length, but I do think the field of chemistry as a whole has so much more to offer than just the elements, and your channel could tap into this by talking more about specific catalysts, reagents, biological compounds, drugs, etc.
Anna Ireinová was thinking the same.. would be kind of a waste of money to buy that many stock clips for a video that so few people are going to see (comparably)
I know when people have epilepsy, one of the biggest concerns is having and taking medication. I've known children that would avoid it, and adults that where very bad at it😔
We need like an insurance court when there is a dispute, presided over by a judge and with the insuree getting a free public defendant if they so choose. They also should get unicorns.
Grey hates anecdotal evidence. But nevertheless... At 19 years old I was extremely adverse to math and science. Then I made some friends who got me working at the local science museum, and over the course of a year or so I developed big aspirations of becoming an astrophysicist. Seven years later I work in stormwater management, which is notably difference from astrophysics, sure. But I'm quite certain that if I didn't start out studying physics at community college due to the enthusiasm that watching planetarium shows and going out to stargazing parties gave me, I would have never gone down this path to a civil engineering degree and a job keeping the drinking water clean. Just saying, Grey, just saying.
Periodic videos is really close to 1 million subs now. I've watched a lot of the videos on there, but I haven't subbed, so I'm going to try to be the 1 millionth
My mind was blown in this episode. For years I've heard about Mr. Chompers (from commenters, Twitter, etc.), but all this time I had assumed that Mr. Chompers was Grey's own dog, that he had gotten a dog partway through the show. My mind is reeling from the revelation that this is not the case, that Mr. Chompers is not his dog at all. (However, this does explain a confusing exchange I heard during a recent stream, where a viewer asked Grey if he had seen Mr. Chompers recently, and Grey replied that he still wasn't able to see him because of the pandemic.)
The card thing happened to me yesterday! I literally went downstairs 10 min after the supposed "attempted delivery" only to find that they stuck a card on the front door saying I wasn't home! Had to wait a full day to get my new phone xD
Okay well there's a difference between disclosing your location and incentivizing someone to rob you. I feel like not covering him because he tweeted is almost comparable to not covering someone whose boss robbed their house because the boss knows the hours that they're not home.
Delivery companies are also abysmal here in Montreal, Canada. It's to the point where I am legitimately wondering if they should be charged with criminal negligence. More than once a package has been marked as "Delivered!" And I never even saw it. Never saw the box, never saw a notification slip, never saw anything. Best I can do is contact the seller (amazon or ebay) and get them to give me a refund.
I really feel like Brady's staunch opposition to astronaut Halloween is rooted in his deep interest and investment in NASA causing him to vastly, vastly overestimate just how aware and interested in them the general public is, and that he also holds them to unreasonably high standards compared to ordinary people when astronauts themselves are regular people doing their job. Also, just because the costumes were planned and approved in advance doesn't mean that the astronauts weren't happy or excited to do it - would Brady oppose uniformed schools having non-uniform days because they're planned in advance?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I thought I was ahead of this podcast by over a year! I'm only ahead like 4 weeks and there is only one left! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MAMA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
There is someone out there making a youtube competitor. It's called floatplane club and made by Linus tech tips. It's still in beta but one channel has joined (Bitwit).
Saying that people who post that they are on vacation are at fault for being robbed is like saying that a girl is responsible for being raped because of her clothing choice. It is an absurd argument. They should have been covered.
Kyle Davis well yes, but it is a security breach. This is also the equivalent of a white house official saying which marine one helicopter the president is in. I do not want anyone to get raped or robbed. But women should at least understand the risk, and this celebrity should know that posting that he is on vacation is a risk. In this situation he should have bought some security measures while he was away, same as how women should be prepared to defend themselves. The world we live in is dangerous and harmful. It is better we prepare for worse rather than wishing upon a star in the hopes that people would change.
Kyle Davis oh, but in this case, yes the insurance should cover it. The only problem I had was your analogy was the women rape thing. When push comes to shove the victim should be helped, and attacker be punished.... If my views changed between posts, it's because I continued the video, thx for opening my mind.
"They're just part of the meatsack that I live in." -CGPGrey, on hands.
The fact that Grey takes care of a puppy makes Grey totally human again, even though you'd think he is a robot and would not be able to relate to a puppy.
Nah, he's still an AI, programmed to make informative and entertaining youtube videos.
Grey is just proof that even robots are not immune to cuteness.
1:50:40 The first H.I. guest appearance! Awesome!
+1
Actually, Audrey has appeared at least two times I think.
I bet you enjoy telling children the truth about the Easter Bunny too.
There's a lady who served Brady a hot drink at the drive through at the beginning of an episode, I forget which one, but hotstoppers were mentioned.
Dan Riches and the mail lady at the flag referendum.
The video is a delight to the eyes while listening to CGP and Brady!!!
Hey Brady! I listened to this in the ER while being treated for a severe asthma attack. They were putting an IV in me and all the while with my free hand I was opening UA-cam to listen to HI. Made my couple hours on the mask much more enjoyable! Thanks Brady and Grey!
Worst video of a podcast ever, I could not hear a single word of Grey or Brady over the brain melting cuteness of the puppies on screen.
Xophe A'dethri lmao
Same
Periodic videos HIT ONE MILLION!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see the old thumbnail design is back. The one for episode 92 made it a lot harder to tell which episode it was.
EDIT: Nevermind, they changed the thumbnail. well, at least we got the large "92" on episode 92.
These are some very lifelike desk toys.
40:28. Ok now I am going to Periodic videos. Podcast can wait.
Edit. I am back. It is already more than 1 million.
these puppies are way too cute. they're distracting me from my homework

So basically, Grey only likes the programming part of a puppy. Robot still confirmed.

THANK YOU FOR THE PUPPERS
These puppies are so calming.
best video backrounds ever
24:33 EXACTLY. I'm second year physics, and I'm here because I like the mathematics. My take on encouraging physics majors is to develop positive prejudice towards early mathematics education.
Brady's imitation of a grandma voice is the best.
I listened to the podcast again for images of puppies
OMG, a podcast video inundated with cuteness!
Alternative title for this episode at 11:19: "Mountains of Piddle Pads"

"inspiring people is silly" "do you want to inspire people? Try squarespace!" Lels
Who is CGP Grey even? Is he actually human now? Mr Chompers?
mister chompers is such a cute name
have you actually bought stock footage of puppies?
Zirror I'm pretty sure it via Videoblocks. One of the sponsors of episode #91.
Anna Ireinová was thinking the same.. would be kind of a waste of money to buy that many stock clips for a video that so few people are going to see (comparably)
yeah, that's probably a good chance to test out the videoblocks service as well. Thanks!
bet
CGP Grey: videos that interest a former teacher who lives in the U.K.
Wow, everyone subbed to periodic videos now. So much for hitting it on sir professor Poliakoff's birthday.
Periodic Videos is the reason I bought a chunk of beautiful Bismuth. Love that channel!
Normally I go and do something else while listening to the podcast. Not happening this time! So cute!
Okay, they loop, so maybe I won't watch the whole time.
Exposure is the best way to advance your learning of English. Hello Internet is the best way to do it .
You guys are killing me with these dogs
Oh my god the Corgi in the snow is so cute
Mr. Chompers was said from 18 to 25 times according to the transcript.
I think this is first time I've seen Mr. Chompers!
The puppies are so cute!!! I already listen to it on the podcast app but I came for the cute puppies.
So many good boys!
I know when people have epilepsy, one of the biggest concerns is having and taking medication. I've known children that would avoid it, and adults that where very bad at it😔

"*Tumbleweeds* on an infinite oasis..."
Goodness, that's a lot of puppies.
We broke that 1,000,000 subscriber mark on Periodic Videos instantly
We need like an insurance court when there is a dispute, presided over by a judge and with the insuree getting a free public defendant if they so choose. They also should get unicorns.
The end was really cute
I will watch more and more as finals approach more and more rapidly
PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long until Brady reprograms CGP Grey into a hotstopper maximizer?
God dammit, now i cant sleep for an another 2 hours, thanks.
FlaggyFlag traitors are saying that hot stoppers are bad because it encourages coffee shops to avoid buying closable coffee lids.
OMG. this should be the only way to consume HI
Now I want to relisten to the podcast on UA-cam so that I can watch all the dog videos
Do squarespace change their slogan three times a week or something?
SquareSpace:
"We change our slogan three times a week or something!"
wow I cant believe they talked about dogs my local radio station had talked about dogs 90 years ago. (/s)

The city doesn't need to be big for one of those Tesco's orders, they send stuff forty miles and across a county to a lot of people in our village
I want a Halloween costume of an astronaut dressed up as spiderman
The cold heart of Grey is finally thawing.

Oh no, I listened to this in Overcast and missed all the visuals.
Who votes for Grey to get a dog? 🤚
That bit at the end haha
Is it really taking people ~2 days on average to finish that paper clip game? I started it the night that I heard it here and finished it that night.
Marein Könings *wink ?
Hexx, You know when you're finished. It's a pretty clear end point.
Hexx If you can still make more paperclips, it's not over.
Yeah my final time was 5 hours or so, wasn't a super long game.
No idea. I spent two days and once i got to space exploration and all that stuff and didn't give me much to do, I stopped playing. xD
subbed to periodic vids
Evan Hammons Hooray!
No show notes?
ikr?
its added now?
I prefer to have stuff delivered to my office building. Almost everytime i also pick up packages for colegues.
I feel like grey should get a discount on his insurance policy

I tried Universal Paperclips. Couldn't get into it.
The only word I am going to say. Cute!
Gonna have to listen to the podcast a second time with no video due to distractinglu cute doggo
Best episode ever!!!
Grey is mellowing with age.
There is someone out there making a youtube competitor. It's called floatplane club and made by Linus tech tips. It's still in beta but one channel has joined (Bitwit).
When you search for Dan’s video and this comes up
Come on people. We have less than 1000 to get to a million subs for the prof.
I feel like following Nick Bostrom might be a spoiler for the paper clip game
Hey me and the professor have the same birthday!
The huskies are my favorite
Seems hard for a stick figure to pick up dog poo
37:00 periodic videos now has more than 1 million subs. should we unsub until December 16th?
Grey has a timeshare doggo!
Are you on Spotify?

AD REDITUS- Term describing a small or consolidated group attempting to destroy someone's livelihood. From Latin meaning for income
Gearbot eh, either which way it works considering terms such as ad hominem
