Thanks for the review 👍 Talking about stabilization, would you rather use a full-frame lens, no camera active stabilization, but use a Gimbal or Dynamic active stabilization + APS-C wide angle lens, and no gimbal Which do you think would produce the best shots? The ZV-E1's pretty strong for its size and weight, I love how portable and confortable it is
I strongly prefer no gimbal, which is why I think dynamic active steadyshot is very powerful. Gimbal not only adds more weight, but most of them also have very large size and uneven shape, very difficult to carry around. I would definitely go for zve1 without gimbal.
👍Yes, Since I only go for videos, so when a lightweight camera which can do everything released at day 1, i knew it would be my favorite cam and it will be for a long time:).
This is a great video!! I am going to try to shoot halloween tonight here in America, I was going o stick to SLOG 3 and ISO 12800 because it will be super dark at night. I can't believe that you had to use an ND filer because it was too bright. That is shocking to me
Thank you! When the background has a lot of street light and decoration light, sometimes it's too bright indeed. But amazing performance anyway. I believe you'll have fun with this camera on halloween night!
Thank you for this thoughts that sure will help a lot of people, I have a different point of view though: Let's suppose I want to buy a camera (and I'll need a lens), I have no other cameras and I just want something that does many things and do them well. Checking Amazon I see that the E1 costs 2200$, and the cheapest option for a lens would cost around 500 (but it would be an APS-C) so I'd spend 2700$... And this would cage me into only video, because it wouldn't be a good option for photos and also I couldn't use it for streaming or as a webcam because it overheats at 4k. It would be a good 2700$ cropped video machine, if I wanted to do photos with a quality comparable to other options in the market I'd need to pay for a full frame lens. If I get an a6700 I'd spend 1700$, and using the same lens around 500 I'd have a 2200$ set... But without any crop (and crap, sorry for the joke) and perfectly capable for high quality photos, streaming at 4k without overheating and any other feature you could think of in the E1. 500$ less and much more to get from my gear. And this camera would perform quite good in reasonable low light with fast (and cheap) APS-C lenses, which is the worst case scenario anyone would usually find. Now let's suppose I do want to shoot frequent super low light shootings, because I'm a coal miner or something, and I need the full frame sensor. It won't be the case for most of us, but let's assume that would be the case. The Lumix S5II is 2200$, you can't use APS-C lenses, but you would have photos and streaming (if you want the E1 with photos you would need full frame lenses anyway) and it comes with some features way beyond any competitor on this price range. Yes the E1 is lighter alone, but it's not lighter than both the A7IV + E1 you need to take with you when you want to make photos as well. So the E1 sure seems to be a great camera, but (for a similar price range) I only can think of three situations it would be the right purchase for me: 1) if I wanted to do only video and nothing else, 2) if I was a coal miner who never streams or needs a high quality webcam, or 3) if I already had other cameras, and this was just like the people who have a fancy electric car as a second car just for the weekend picnics. Something very enjoyable and that will give you amazing results when given the right circumstances, but only within these circumstances. Your photos and videos always look amazing, but your talent is obviously way above the average and you own other gear; I think for most of the people, if we are just limiting our options to a comparable price range, the a6700 is "the" choice right now.
The a6700 is a great hybrid option but you can still get great photos from the E1 if you’re only using them for social media and other phone screen content. My iphone shoots 40+ MP raw if I really need high resolution Photos. 4k 60fps 1.5x crop and lack of 4k 120fps on the 6700 is pretty lame. Don’t even get me started on full frame vs crop lol. A6700 is good but I wouldn’t say it’s the choice to get
@Mandelrot I agree with @merv3930 the photos from E1 are still good enough unless you are doing large print out. As for a little light videos I am pretty sure E1 would have a much better performance than a6700. Both are amazing cameras but for very different users. And even for photography, the full from sensor will create much cleaner image than APSC especially at extremely dark environment.
@@Jm3rv You are right, in fact if you want contents for social media you don't need to spend $3000+ in a camera; you can get the ZV-E10 + lens for $1000 and your friends with your smartphone won't notice the difference. I was considering alternatives on a similar price range, but in fact most of the people won't even need that.
@@ConstantineSPhotography Indeed, and at this price range all cameras (or at least all Sony cameras) sure are amazing good so you just need to find the one that suits your needs best. And that's my point: who needs to shoot videos in extremely dark environments often, and needs these videos to be crystal clean so much that they will spend 3000+ on it? The a6700 mention was just an example (I think the SII would be a more fair competitor), although I've seen first videos with it and in normal light the image quality is perfect as well. If you are the kind of person who needs the things the E1 shines on (and only those) I think that's for sure the best option in the market, no discussion at all. My point is not towards the camera itself but about who is that person. Someone who really, really needs to spend so much on a low light top level camera will very often need other things (that's why I have mentioned the SII, which is way better by features), but most of the people just won't need that and they could get away with a cheaper option such as the E10 and be just as happy sharing their tiktok dances. The other case scenario I see for this camera is people like you, who want top level quality and have already other gear using the E1 just for the things it does better than others. So all you have said is 100% right, I just wanted to change the point of view to the user themselves.
@Mandelrot I agree with you for the second part, but for the first part, actually on UA-cam using a normal size computer screen you can see clearly the difference between E1 and E10 in low light, but for photography, unless you do pixel peeping, you can't see the quality difference (except in low light E1 is cleaner than E10). But of course if you consider yourself a hybrid shooter, after watching those simple photos and videos of a6700 or SII online, as long as you think the low light capacity is good enough for you, it is the most suitable camera for you.
Hi, I'd love to, but the thing is in my country it's winter now, most of the time it's about 15 degrees celsius, I think it'd make more sense to test it in summer.
I haven't had a chance to try either of the either, but I've tried Viltrox 20mm f2.8, I think the field of view is quite suitable for vlogging, 16mm might look too wide and not so easy on composition.
Have you noticed white hot pixels on the sensor in very low light high ISO shots? They keep appearing on mine albeit seem to go away with pixel mapping but I haven’t had another camera where they appear like this. Otherwise love the camera.
Thank you very much for your fantastic review. Since you already have an APS-C lens and have done many tests, I have a question for you. When you use APS-C lenses like the 10-20mm f/4 lens with the ZV-E1, do you get the same colors as when you use full-frame lenses, like the 28-60mm f/4? I care a lot about skin tones, so could you please share your experience and opinion on this? I'm also curious why you choose to use the HLG2 picture profile for taking photos with the ZV-E1. If you have any references or information beyond your personal experience, I'd greatly appreciate it
Different lenses may have different colors, but since these two lenses are both from Sony, I believe there wouldn't be noticeable difference. I like taking photos with HLG2 because I think it is easier for my color grading process, the color is not too vibrant or saturated, so I have a lot of room to edit.
@@ConstantineSPhotography Thank you for your response. As far as I know, HLG2 is designed for capturing HDR video; I haven't seen anyone use it for photos. I also noticed your low-light video with the ZVE1 and an APS-C 2.8 lens, looks great. Many people opt for an 11mm 1.8 lens, but the quality, compared to a full-frame lens, seems lacking. It would be greatly appreciated if you could share your opinion on using the same focal length with both full-frame and APS-C lenses on the ZVE1. I'm in search of a wide-angle lens like the Sony 11mm, but I'm still uncertain due to concerns about quality and vignetting. Thanks in advance
so i finally bought zve1 with tamron 20-40 mm f 2.8 for travel to pakistan. initially the dynamic stabilization was very bad . i was about to return the camera but then i updated the software of the lens and now i am started to get the desired stabled footage. i tried slog3 but i am not able to adjust the footage properly using my software. My footage does not look like yours and others slog 3 footage. i think that s curve is not making sense to be about adjusting highlights. i tried Cinetone profile. it is good but it is very dark in shadows. any suggestions?
Congrats on the new camera and lens! Nice combo. For shooting and editing s-log3, I have a tutorial video: ua-cam.com/video/4FbQiVahazs/v-deo.html For s-cinetone on zve1, the base iso is 100 and 2000, meaning your videos will look the cleanest at these 2 numbers.
Great video 👏 Sub from germany 😁 I have the ZVE1 now since last week and will make some tests at this weekend 👍🏻 it is a perfect b-cam for my FX6 and because of the small size perfect for holidays 😍 best cinematic greetings
two questions. if you pair zve1 with a Apsc lens like 15mm f1.4 and with 30% dynamic crop you are at 19-20 mm , how would it impact the f stop? would that become f1.8 approximately? Secondly, if i am not a professional videographer and i want to get decent low light results, what setting to choose where camera selects the best option for cleaner high iso low light result ? and lastly, if i were to pair it with one lens ( most likely zoom) for traveling, any recommendations?
F stop has been proven to not change but with the APS-C lens you will have to walk back a few steps to match the full frame 15mm which will in result lead to less compression and background blur since you are further from the subject. Best lowlight settings on the zv-e1 camera will be lowest F stop. ISO 12,800. And 24fps at 1/50 shutter. Can raise the ISO if needed. Best all around travel lenses i recommend are Sony 24-105mm Sony 20-70mm Or sony 24-70mm Also I don’t recommend using APS-C with the zv-e1 sensor. In crop mode you’ll be getting way less resolution/megapixels. In dynamic active stabilization crop you may be getting vignetting Unless you crop in post
I wouldn’t be telling people to use different picture profiles for different lighting scenarios. You would just end up with a bunch of clips with clashing colours and it would be a nightmare to edit. I am also facing another tough choice of lens between Sony 2070 F4 or Sony 2470 F2.8 GM2. Do you think F4 is sufficient for the ZV-E1 in low-light environment (e.g. night/ indoor)?
It really depends on what kind of low light situation you are in, if it is on a busy street with store signs and car light, f4 is definitely enough, but if you are in the mountain/ camping, etc, I would say even f2.8 is a little bit tough (but usable)
Yes I think so, first because it's lightweight, second it has amazing low light performance and can shoot up to 4k 120 P, these are very helpful for nature videos.

Какая выдержка минимальная должна быть динамического стаба при 24 кадрах в секунду что бы он не глючил? слышал что нужно ставить 1/400
not that high! in low light condition you need to set it to at least 1/100, it should be fine

Btw thx for mention that apsc lens are not suitable for photos only for videos with dynamic stabilization
Thanks 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Putting an APSC lens on a FF camera with a lower res sensor seems mad to me
For photography not a good idea, but I tried it for video and am satisfied with the results.
They just needed to add a small fan… at least make an official fan accessory that people can buy.
Yeah, it would be nice to have that option
Removing the fan the fx3 had is the whole point of this camera. Its cheaper , they dont want it as good as the higher level model
