Ive just got this camera the other day and watched all of your zv-e1 series. It helped me alot, especially with setting up the camera with its menus and all. The only thing im trying to learn more is how to expose with the s-log as i still find it a bit confising with the zeberas and all, I mainly use for outdoors run & run shoots and also what lut would you recommend to add on to the camera? Overall love your content. Keep it up...
Great to hear that the videos have been helpful. Check out this video (and that part 2 that is linked in the description), I really think it'll help you with some of the zebras and overall exposure stuff: ua-cam.com/video/afu3WS3yjgc/v-deo.html
Solid video. I’ve been using the ZV-e1 for a few months, no overheating, many people exaggerate this point… It has great low light capabilities, you can keep it minimal and build it out, very versatile. Thanks for sharing! It is a great camera!
There is an answer to all of these cons! Tilta makes the cage with the built in fan… they’ve also made a clip to go onto the cage to cover the micro HDMI! This partnered with the atomos Ninja for example means you’ll have a camera that won’t overheat and can record to overcome the one SD card slot!
Ok look, I just got the ZVE1.. I was cruising through multiple UA-cam creators looking for info on how to learn this camera. I watched at least three before finding yours.. I have now watched every video in this playlist for ZVE1. I absolutely love your content, and you did an amazing job on these. I know everyone wants their videos to do well, but it's a big bonus to have your video be helpful in someone else's world. Your videos were extremely helpful in my world, you stayed on point and were thorough enough to make me feel confident in using it. So genuinely, thank you.
Love your hype on the ZV-E1! In regards to your wedding videographer comment at 06:20 : I've been using the ZV-E1 as a solo for my past 5 weddings. I record clips at 4k 60fps and have not seen the overheating icon yet. For ceremonies (outdoors or inside) I change to 4k 30fps and have gotten the warning icon a handful of times. However, I have the Tilta cage with the Titla cooling fan powered by an Anker powerblock that I have attached to my rig at all times and once the warning icon comes on I flick that thing to high and the warning goes away shortly after and has not turned itself off yet! If your a solo like me and can't break the bank for an a7siii or fs6/9 just yet, there is a way!
hey my only concern about its 4k quality vs a7siii. & is it works well if i am shooting like turn on & off simultaneously,. and i didn't shoots clips over 4 min max ,. usually they are 10 to 30 seconds for wedding trailers & highlights,. plz suggest is it worth buying ,.. i am a full time wedding videographer , and don't do longer takes not more than 2 min , usually

I love my zv-e1 as I don't shoot long clip, I used for reel creation in f&b. 4k120 or 1080 240fps with low light capability never faced overheating issue for my purpose. I am grateful to Sony for the price, it saved me a lot to invest in more lenses !

Hi, I updated with version 1.03 and two important things have been improved: First the autofocus is more efficient when I film in 4K 50 and 100 P. Then, this morning I have first left my ZV E1 filming in 4K 50 P in 4:2:2 10 bit for 189 minutes without interruption on a tripod with external power on my V mount battery. I just had to stop because of the SD card limit. Then, I just finished filming handheld continuously with the internal battery still in 4K50P for 39 minutes with the dynamic stabilization mode active before the overheating indicator appeared: almost double that before the new update of the internal software. I don't know exactly what Sony did and I haven't explored everything yet, but after 8 months of working with the ZV E1, this morning I really felt a real difference. 👍
You made a really good point about the name here. I think this camera might have been a bit of a marketing blunder. I agree the name FX3C would have put this thing on a LOT more folks radar.
I had the choice between ZV-E1 and a6700. Pre-booked a6700 and was ready to go and pick the camera up. Stumbled upon a video by Mark Bennett that same morning and another by Mitch Lally about ZV-E1, which made me divided. But 9 hours later, I got home with a7 IV 🙂 Perhaps the next ZV-E1 mark II will be better.
The ZVE1 is a BEAST. I Sold my a7s3 and i dot regret any second of it. Ok, the dual card slot and the raw output, but the ZVE1 have better AF (way better), can use luts (and false color!!), its smaller, have tha Active Dinamic Steady Shot (really useable in Real Life), breathing compensation, anti flicker and when i bought my ZVE1 get like 1500 USD back, what i use to bouht a Lumix s5iiX used 😊.
That 4channel mic option with the sony mic on top is interesting. How does that work for editing? Do you see four audio channels in the video file? Is it possible to do 4 channels with other mics, like the DJI mic 2 (two wireless mics)? I really want to be able to have multiple mics recording to the camera (to reduce extra components I bring with me) and easily change mic levels in post. I think a whole separate video could address these and other related questions. Thanks!
Awesome videos. I used the Sony fx3 and found that there is a brownish orange hue . I see this hue allot from other fx3 users on UA-cam but I noticed that the ZV E1 doesn't have that brownish hue but looks crisp with true to life colors. Is this really the case?
Super helpful, thanks! I’m better with my own equipment when I stay up to speed with what’s out there - so please keep up the excellent content. And, yes it’s time for you to do a “What’s in My Camera Bag 2023” edition. Thanks again!
Thank you, love to hear it. I totally get you - staying updated with the latest equipment is fun. I'll definitely make a "What's in My Camera Bag 2023" video. Stay tuned...
I have paired with the 50m. 1.2 g master I do weddings and I haven't had an over heating notice yet even tho I'm parked all day at 4k 60p 422 10bit. Smallrig cage puts to rest the hdmi issue and I use a ninja 5 there's your dual record problem fixed
I recently bought the ZV-E1 and have been very impressed with it, so many options to hand and great quality results. I am a little confused why the Frame rate and bit depth vary between the Fn and main1 menus in S&Q mode?? Without changing the settings, Fn screen can say 120fps 8bit and the main1 can say 60fps 10bit… any experience of this possible glitch? The only other issue is the IBIS is jittery if you use third party lenses unless you manually set the focal length you’re shooting.
S&Q settings can be a bit different. I tend to stay in manual movie mode and just lock those settings in. This might help you: ua-cam.com/video/MtVqeYnBVOg/v-deo.html
If long form recording isn't required and you only use the ZV-E1 for relatively short clips then it's perfect, 2nd hand prices (in the UK) are currently around half that of the FX3! But if you do need to do long form videos, then the overheating is a big issue, it's possible to workaround via the use of fans but out of the box you can't depend on the ZV-E1 to record beyond 30mins straight in a paid gig - in my own tests (without fans) I've had wild results ranging from shut off at 40mins to over 2hrs, but typically under 50mins.
The only FPS for the XAVC S 4k is 24p, 30p and 60p. 120 frames per second only works for XAVC S HD. I just updated my Sony ZV E1 to 1.02 and still do not see 120FPS for any of the 4k options.
Tbh the price tag is the ONLY thing hindering me at the moment because I have other major financial obligations I thought about renting it but advised against because if I love it & I'm sure I will, I'll only be teasing myself 😫😫 desperately tryna find someone selling it for a good deal I'll take a used one & I'm distraught that no Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales have shown a price drop on this beast
@seandewispelaere I have but I have two ZV-E10s and I'm thinking of selling one & putting the funds toward the ZV-E1 I'm bidding on one on eBay now 🤞🏾 I can get a good price if not I might have to bite the bullet I desperately want a FF camera 🤣🤣
This camera just came on my radar. The small size, full frame sensor, and dynamic stabilization are very appealing to me. I don't want to have to use a gimbal but I want the full frame look. Do you have a lens you would recommend if I plan on doing a lot of vlogging while walking and hand held shots? I am a Realtor that makes videos about the community, houses, cities, etc... Currently using the pocket 3. Oh and the zv-e1 is currently $300 off on B&H which seems like a good deal.
I tend to like the result with SLOG 3 a bit more. Could just be the higher ISO when recording against the dark walls in my studio, but yea I use them both frequently.
It's so easy just shoot it and I never have to worry Bouton what ISO to use and whether to use ND filter. As mostly I take videos of family indoor in the winter, just works.
Nice product focus tip. I am not a fan of recording to audio to camera. Hmmmm... Not sure if the mic is a good option. Still pondering the ZV E1 as my first big boy camera.
Hi brother. Like always awesome video. A few pointers - 72 degrees F = 22 degrees C. Just add that data for us that have a different system :) - very good and valid points. No clickbait video. Top notch content. Sony is really doing something right most photo an video segments. I saw in an interview that they filled the entire movie “ the creator “ with FX30. YOU MUST DO WHAT IS IN MY CAMERA BAG VIDEO 💪 Keep it up man.
My man! Ha busted, I'll remember to include those conversions at some point Was it the FX30 or the FX3? May or may not be shooting that video in the next few days... All the best
Yo! I'm a Red Komodo X shooter. I need q hybrid camera. This looks killer. I have an E to PL as well for my anamorphics. Maybe a dumb question, but I have almost never used AF Never had the luxury It needs an autofocus lens? Is this an obvious? Are any of these Ai features available for cinema lenses? I love my Komodo, but when it's fully kitted and gimbled out, it's absolutely back breaking some times. This seems like a better B cam & photos are at least possible
I agree with the skin tones being better. It was nailing the skin tones better than my canon r6 mark ii 😮. I just got this camera so I need to learn how to use it coming from canon it’s a bit of a learning curve for me.
Thanks and thats a tough one, but if I had to pick (keeping what I use the camera for in mind) it'd be these: [1] amzn.to/41YImBu [2] amzn.to/3tRTgw0 [3] amzn.to/3RUX9bP
Hey, love mine but I’m getting white hot pixels appearing in high ISO shooting. Running the mapping seems to get rid of it at least temporarily, but it’s irritating that the dots appear. Have you noticed the same on any of your Sony cameras, is there a defect?
my only concern about its 4k quality vs a7siii. & is it works well if i am shooting like turn on & off simultaneously,. and i didn't shoots clips over 4 min max ,. usually they are 10 to 30 seconds for wedding trailers & highlights,. plz suggest is it worth buying ,.. i am a full time wedding videographer , and don't do longer takes
I got it cuz I couldn't justify the fx3 and used the remaining money I would've put to a the fx3 to a card, lens, mics and filters. I shoot in the Caribbean, outdoors, HOT, and only overheated once
I can’t decide whether this or the a6700 is the one for me. I mainly do headshot videos but sometimes I do have to record a longer time, up towards the hour mark. I would hate for the overheating to be an issue.
thanks for this video, It's reassuring because everyone complains about overheating. But if you're nota filming like a madman, it should be fine in my opinion.
can somebody help me with this camera? ive found out that in specs that it only sync with flash at 1/30 but i wonder if shooting compressed raw ( with faster sensors readout speed ) will improve that.
I would have bought the ZVe1 but the price is a killer here in Aus. So I went the Canon R8 which is almost $1k cheaper. you don't get 4k 120 but the camera is just as good.
Have to say I agree on price being a sticking point but it’s in a fair spot in the lineup. Cheaper FX30 and you get fans but don’t get full frame, more expensive FX3 isn’t exactly beginner friendly and is now missing all of the new AI. Love mine though, it’s a great complement to an A7IV!
FX3 is not aps-c mate, you may be thinking about the FX-30 which is considered Sony's entry level cinema camera. The ZV-E1 and FX3, however, do share the exact same full frame sensor!
If I was into video the ZV-E1 would be with me right now. I shoot stills so I went for the A7CR. Ooooohh, what a sweet camera. I also have that crazy ZV-E10, a video camera with a shutter. It seems to be more a modified a6400 with a flippy screen and no EVF. It's cool since it can do burst shots in camera (stills) mode. Do keep up the good work and dispel the nonsense and outright lies being flung out in UA-cam land. I find it disheartening knowing these guys are near brain dead compared to those (me) who have been shooting for 40 plus year with film camera.
@@seandewispelaere I think the way you explained that Sony could’ve/should’ve possibly named it differently makes a lot of sense. I feel most would’ve looked it this camera with a different opinion. Due to naming people come with preconceived ideas etc. Your 12M photo comparison I thought was genius! And the “overheating” thing is ridiculously out of control everywhere online. So many other products do the same and you don’t even hear that much about it. But you know, I’ve read online - people shooting 120f for stupid amounts of time….Has me saying…“Yep, it’s going to overheat buddy. So will your GoPro 😂”
Thank you for the video Sean. This is a great camera. The only reason I haven't bought it yet is that it only has one SD card slot. I find it too risky not being able to record to two SD cards simultaneously.
Glad you liked it and I can see that. The reliability seems solid on my end over the years while using Sony SD cards, but yea if I was filming anything risky, I'd have 2
the only problem i have with this camera is how off the colors look especially in skin tones everything has a crazy green tint in slog 3 s cine tone and even photos
Lol please correct me if I'm wrong but were you a boxer? Cheers much it is a great camera for entry level people however to still keep weight and size down a flippy tilty screen would be better ❤
The Sony hype train and army of camera channels releasing "reviews" on day 1 makes it hard to know. you have to almost ignore the influencer and look only at the stats and image tests.

The only FPS for the XAVC S 4k is 24p, 30p and 60p. 120 frames per second only works for XAVC S HD. I just updated my Sony ZV E1 to 1.02 and still do not see 120FPS for any of the 4k options.
That’s odd. I’d hit up Sony because that shouldn’t be the case. As soon as I updated a few months ago when 120 dropped, it was available.
How do you "update"? Sorry if I didn't catch how to in the video 🙏🏼
I updated mine and the option for 120fps is there now.
@@seandewispelaere I just placed the "RQ_LIC.DAT" in the SD Card next to license and good to go!
Isn't it the script you gotta install? Not the update
Have you looked at the a6700? It’s SO similar in my opinion and half the price. If you’re stuck on full frame I get it and hope you find one 💯
I don't know why most people are still using SLOG3 instead of S-Cinetone with these cameras. Cinetone's colors are basically perfect.
I tend to like the result with SLOG 3 a bit more. Could just be the higher ISO when recording against the dark walls in my studio, but yea I use them both frequently.
Bought one used last Friday, and it's awesome.
Oh?! Love to hear it
It's so easy just shoot it and I never have to worry Bouton what ISO to use and whether to use ND filter. As mostly I take videos of family indoor in the winter, just works.
you should have many more views... man you really do the Job, you r aLegend!!!
Nice product focus tip. I am not a fan of recording to audio to camera. Hmmmm... Not sure if the mic is a good option. Still pondering the ZV E1 as my first big boy camera.
Hi brother. Like always awesome video. A few pointers
- 72 degrees F = 22 degrees C. Just add that data for us that have a different system :)
- very good and valid points. No clickbait video. Top notch content.
Sony is really doing something right most photo an video segments. I saw in an interview that they filled the entire movie “ the creator “ with FX30.
YOU MUST DO WHAT IS IN MY CAMERA BAG VIDEO 💪
Keep it up man.
My man! Ha busted, I'll remember to include those conversions at some point
Was it the FX30 or the FX3?
May or may not be shooting that video in the next few days...
All the best
@@seandewispelaere your are right FX3. Looking forward to the next
Perfect thanks, is the ISO base for photos without color profile also 80 and 1600?
I have never looked at that for photos, but I don't think it has dual for photos
Yo! I'm a Red Komodo X shooter. I need q hybrid camera. This looks killer. I have an E to PL as well for my anamorphics. Maybe a dumb question, but I have almost never used AF
Never had the luxury
It needs an autofocus lens? Is this an obvious? Are any of these Ai features available for cinema lenses?
I love my Komodo, but when it's fully kitted and gimbled out, it's absolutely back breaking some times.
This seems like a better B cam & photos are at least possible
I bought one but there does not seem to be any easy way to lock exposure, focus and white balance, when for example doing a reveal shot.
Hey Jim, this might help ya - enjoy the new camera 🤙

Thank you dude! You answered all of my questions.
Love to hear that!
I agree with the skin tones being better. It was nailing the skin tones better than my canon r6 mark ii 😮. I just got this camera so I need to learn how to use it coming from canon it’s a bit of a learning curve for me.
Great video!! Waiting for mine.
I was wondering if you've been a basketball referee, as yiu were calling travel often 😁
Hey this is super helpful Sean! I use A7s3 for filming Your Magic Film at Disney--it's great, but this might be even better for that use...
Nice that's really cool and it might be worth a look although the s3 is really solid. Thanks and glad you liked the video.
greatt video thx i have Sony FE 20mm F/1.8 G lens is it good for these zv e1 for crops hybrid stabil.
100% agree and am currently running that combo as well
Great review on the ZV-E1, my man. Serious question……..what three full frame go-to lenses would you use?
🍻
Thanks and thats a tough one, but if I had to pick (keeping what I use the camera for in mind) it'd be these:
[1] amzn.to/41YImBu
[2] amzn.to/3tRTgw0
[3] amzn.to/3RUX9bP
@@seandewispelaere~ good lookin’ out, my man. 🍻
Hi, what are the best iso values out of camera without color grading for the ZV-E1?
Or can you just always use 100-200?
I love the ZV-E1 but there is 2 software things im really missing. 2.7k res and i need more aspect ratio soo i can film vertikal.
Hi do I need V90 cards to record 50p 4K 10 bit
Went with the E10 and I LOVE it! ❤
It's a very, very solid camera
can somebody help me with this camera? ive found out that in specs that it only sync with flash at 1/30 but i wonder if shooting compressed raw ( with faster sensors readout speed ) will improve that.
I would have bought the ZVe1 but the price is a killer here in Aus. So I went the Canon R8 which is almost $1k cheaper. you don't get 4k 120 but the camera is just as good.
I've heard great things about the R8, enjoy!
@@seandewispelaere love your content. Keep it up
@@davidmaxfieldgolf Thank you, David, that means a lot
I have the BMCC6K and was thinking this would be a good low-light B-cam....
Very underrated. Love mine.
Couldn't agree more
Have to say I agree on price being a sticking point but it’s in a fair spot in the lineup. Cheaper FX30 and you get fans but don’t get full frame, more expensive FX3 isn’t exactly beginner friendly and is now missing all of the new AI. Love mine though, it’s a great complement to an A7IV!
What's up, Bill?! Fully agreed on my end
Good take, appreciate your content!
I don’t think it uses the same sensor as the fx3. This camera has a full frame sensor. 2:17 isn’t the fx3 apsc
FX3 is not aps-c mate, you may be thinking about the FX-30 which is considered Sony's entry level cinema camera. The ZV-E1 and FX3, however, do share the exact same full frame sensor!
@@AMALHI15yep thanks for clarifying
I going to buy the Sony ZV E1 . Wish lens is the best for video cooking , street ..... big like 305
I think a lot of it is due to current owners of the FX line seeing a discount and upgrades
Use this camera for weddings and its an awesome highlight camera. Matches my fx3 and a7siii perfectly. I prefer this over my a7iv
Love to hear it
I love this camera
Me and you both
Every point you made in this is right on! I've had my ZV-E1 now for a few months and I absolutely LOVE this thing!
Thanks and it is so good, right?!
@@nordmach I'm glad the points landed for you and good point about the GoPro - all the best
its great for recording video since it can do 4k 60 and has full frame sensor but for photos its not the best
Shutter 4000 or 8000?
8000
Thank you for the video Sean. This is a great camera. The only reason I haven't bought it yet is that it only has one SD card slot. I find it too risky not being able to record to two SD cards simultaneously.
Glad you liked it and I can see that. The reliability seems solid on my end over the years while using Sony SD cards, but yea if I was filming anything risky, I'd have 2
i i captain, soon i will buy this camera, thank you for this very good information
Nice - enjoy it!
Nice angle on doing a review video 😄.
I wish this camera went CFexpress for memory cards…
Easily the best camera for the buck on the market !
Right?!
the only problem i have with this camera is how off the colors look especially in skin tones everything has a crazy green tint in slog 3 s cine tone and even photos
That might be fixable. What are your white balance settings?
Lol please correct me if I'm wrong but were you a boxer? Cheers much it is a great camera for entry level people however to still keep weight and size down a flippy tilty screen would be better ❤
If I was, I'm sure there'd be a lot of busted fists out there? Agreed and adding the "tilty" in also makes it SO much more fun to say
Sean I bought this camera after your 1st review. With your LUTZ it’s tits👍🏻 for me it’s great and much better for video than my A7r iii
Love to hear it and so good to hear that you're loving it - appreciate you
which lutz? how can I find

The Sony hype train and army of camera channels releasing "reviews" on day 1 makes it hard to know. you have to almost ignore the influencer and look only at the stats and image tests.
