I'm thinking of using this as my "Run and Gun" camera with the A74 in my bag for full set ups while I travel. It's going to replace my A7C for travel since this one seems better for video and lighter than the A74
An industry professional will always struggle with the heat dissipation with the ZVE1, so I'd never give up the Sony A7SIII for that reason, but as a second shooter, travel style camera it is incredible. You can even now have all the autofocus video lock on features when you use clear image zoom on the ZV-E1 for video! Sad that they won't do a firmware update to allow this on the A7S III. : (

The ZV-E1 is a definite creators camera. Because you do get 10-bit SLog3 recording, it's more than a vlogging camera. And with the other creative modes with the special looks settings and 2:35:1 ratio bars, you can really make interesting vlogs to say the least. Even though I consider myself a filmmaker, I think the ZV-E1 can give me a lot of creative choices out of the box that I can use for filmmaking.

If you regularly shoot photos as well or value a viewfinder on your camera, I would certainly recommend the A7iv. If you shoot mainly video, and you are familiar with using cameras I would recommend you to also have a look at the FX30 which may be more versatile in the long run around the same price point.
on the a74 you can do everything the ZV-e1 does in post, you can also use APSC lenses and get a 4k image. Both are awesome in low light. I think this would be an amazing studio camera, but it seems a little fragile (mini HDMI, not weather sealed) for "robust" use. Not knocking it at all. It definitely has it's place in the Sony lineup.
I pre-ordered and cant wait for it to show up, its going to pair up epically with my A7RV, now I got to figure out lens, 14mm g master or do I go with a wide angle zoom g master lens....this is the question i will be debating for the next few days over a few glasses of evening bourbon and cokes while photographing some backyard birds. Love your videos.
@AzsiabaSzakadtam OK I literally just read your comment and I bought one, will be here Next week, this is something that I've overlooked. But it will be interesting to see what this looks like against. The Sigma's 17 mm F4. And then I'm also going to compare it against the Sony. APS C1018 millimeter lens. So basically you now have got me making a new video based off of what you put in my head. So thank you. Give me a few weeks to month and I'll have that video.
is it really comparable to the alpha7sIII? What about the low light performance? What about the rolling shutter? is the camera perhaps more comparable to the alpha7IV?
still no 4k120, over heating issues, no double card slot (HUGE KILLER FOR ME), no EVF, no full HDMI this will not be replacing my a7S III. Thank u for listening lol.
I think the ZV-E1 is following the logical path of the ZV series and like most cameras we've seen the higher end flagships eventually trickle down to the more "beginner" entry level/budget camera systems. That being said, this is obviously a great camera for anyone looking to get into UA-cam or the like with content creation and from everything I've seen/read the features are very tailored to a broad range of creators. Would I sell my a7SIII for this? No, it's not the same camera and doesn't offer what I need from my cameras for my business.
I've seen tests where it recorded for just over two hours without overheating. I think the main cause of overheating will be long recordings. But, if you don't do long interviews or long shots, you should be good.
Hey Peter do you think Sony would bring some of the features of the ZV-E1 to the A7SIII as a firmware update? Edit. Nevermind I see that you already answered that in a previous response
Hi Peter, now that you have had this for a while, how do you find the overheating ? And in 4k 120? Have the a7s3 but torn between the zv-e1 or a7s4 for b cam
Great video Peter but I would never get rid of my FX3 or even the A73s for this. Heat management and size matter to me. However, i do find it extremely frustrating that Sony tries to squueze money out of people by intentionally not pushing these new software updates to their "slightly" older flagships. This camera has the same hardware as Fx3/A7s3. You think we are going to see these software updates? 🙃
This thing overheat in 8-12 mins continues recording under the sun in Australia beach just 2 month ago, and that's not even consider a hot day. I was shocked that how useless it is, and the guy from camera store thta let us test it was so embrassed because they were supposed to bring some suprise to our testing group instead of shock. It seems more likely that this camera was designed in EU or CA, which make sense since these place is the perfect testing ground for this camera ewspecially in winter.
ZVE1 is a good camera, but as a vlogging camera, it fails. The primary feature of a vlogging camera is that it should be able to shoot stable videos even without a stabilizer because vlogging is all about shooting videos anytime and anywhere, and you can’t carry a stabilizer with you all the time. However, Sony’s anti-shake function is very poor. ZVE1’s anti-shake function is very unstable when shooting handheld walking videos. Active Stabilization requires large cropping and affects image quality. You must use an external stabilizer every time you shoot. You don’t need to buy Zve1 at all. Other Sony models are similar. Even if you use a stabilizer, ZVE1 IBIS cannot handle micro-shakes well, and you still need to use post-shake reduction when you get home. A 20-minute 4K walking video takes more than 2-3 hours to convert in CATALYST BROWSE (even longer if your computer is not fast enough). As for Zve1’s AI anti-shake and tracking functions, they cause too much damage to image quality. You can feel it even on the small screen of your phone. It’s okay to play with them, but try not to use them in practice.
I've been using Sony ZV-E10 for the past year, so this would be a great step-up. Can you use the e-mount APS-C lenses from that with this ZV-E1 camera?
I don’t like the fact that Sony don’t release firmware updates as they should compared to other brands like Fujifilm and Panasonic. My A7RIV and A7SIII have not had any firmware update for long time. Does the Z1 E1 heat up continuous recording ?
Then buy Fuji and Panasonic. You obviously don’t like Sony enough to not complain about everything or just plain buy this camera. And trade in your older Sony. That’s what people do. They live with reality. The manufacturers don’t build things for you specifically. Buy what’s available with the features you want. He’ll have multiple cameras like I do. You aren’t married to camera. Use it until you find something better.
Don't forget you gotta buy lenses for this $2,200 camera. If you're a UA-camr who's mostly going to keep the camera on a tripod, your best bet is to go with the Sony Z90 camcorder.
That's not how it works dynamic steady shot uses the the whole sensor to record the video and after that uses algorithmic crop for the stabilation like gopro or insta camera does. It's not a static crop. The crop moves around on the whole sensor. Better buy an ultra wide full frame lens like 14 or 16 to get like 24mm 28mm equivalent. All those things I mentioned only applies to dynamic stabilation
@@PeterLindgren1 In crop mode it would be like a 30 but what if you ran it in normal mode with the vignette outer circle and ran the dynamic steady shot? You have 15mm, can you throw it on for shizz and giggles?
you only have a 12mp sensor using an APSC lens on this camera has the same issues as the A7s3. you end up with much less than 4K and not much room in post. The A74 is the camera you want if you want to use Fullframe and APSC lenses as it still has awesome low light and full 4K in apsc mode.
I haven’t had any issues myself, but there seems to be a lot of other people having it. I rarely record longer than 30 mins continuously anyways though 🤷🏻
@@PeterLindgren1 that’s true Peter. Normally I film not so long and when the cam is out for a while I think it is no problem. For holidays a perfect small cam 🎥👍🏻

It’s no wonder the price ZVE1 wasn’t mentioned… while it’s $2200 USD, nearly half the cost of A7SIII when released. It is still hard to take seeing that the ZVE10 at release was $700 USD 😅
Yeah but that’s apsc. You can’t compare the two. It also doesn’t have all the new features this new camera has. You have to compare this with other full frame cameras that is great in low light. Is the 10 as good in Low light. Nope so not comparable
@@Chris-ey7zy I get it. It’s basically a A7SIII/FX3 stripped further down without taking away most of the important image quality features for half the price. From that perspective, it’s a no-brainer for professionals to pick one up. But my point is that it is marketed to the vlogging enthusiast, even has a subtitle “vlogging camera”. Which aligns with the audience at the ZV-E10 range and have the budget range that’s similar to that camera. In this case, to have to spend 3 times is very steep don’t you think?
@@jimmystewartuk it’s going to cost more because of bigger sensor. A7C is 1800. That’s 400 less than e V1. Now add on newer camera with new features that no other cameras have. Let’s add 100 for each new feature. Super active stabilizer, cropping 4k to put subject wherever you want it, better touch screen, a microphone that recognizes where subject is, low noise in extreme low light, improved autofocus with new sensor, 15stop dynamic range, s cine tone, cine mode , ability to bake in luts, ability to automatically change aperture if other subjects come into scene, 5axis gyro more then 3 on gimbals, product focusing, time lapse, and it comes in white too. If that’s too much then go back to ev-10. It seems priced well for what they gave.
@@Chris-ey7zy thanks Chris for your time on the reply. I get what you’re saying and if I could guess you’re a user already owning a similar price or more camera? The ZV-E1 is an awesome camera from a professional perceptive, a slightly stripped down version of A7SIIII for half the price. I just think the marketing could have been different, due to the camera taking up the ZV-E line… it’s labelled as the vlogging camera 😅 For $2200, consumers on this line would see this upgrade as expensive to just get to full frame, when comparing to the competition. For example the Canon R8: It’s full frame, but only 1499… it’s a hard sell to the market Sony targeted.
@@jimmystewartuk I’m in Sony system. I could care less about Canon. Plus canon don’t allow 3rd party lenses which makes them more expensive since you can only buy Canon lenses. I own fx-30 and A7iv. Plus will trade in A7C for this. Sony may market it for vloggers but all these new features like auto framing and active stabilizers would be crazy useful for gimbal users. Plus not having viewfinder makes this camera less too heavy and considering the size is smaller that A7C is another plus. My A7C was 1899 I believe so paying 400 $ more for 10bit , better for lower light which lots of us shoot in, unique ai features no other cameras have, etc is reasonable. New vloggers or new camera owners can get Ze-e10. Sony didn’t say buy this as your first vloggers camera. I don’t see that advertised anywhere. Plus who cares if honestly you think it’s expensive. Sony is the one taking the risk of how it’s priced. They decided they could price it what they did and make money. Not everything revolves around you or any photographer. Photographers seem to think everything revolves around them. Manufacturers build the cameras and decides the price. If it’s overpriced then market decides. But manufacturers decides what price they price their cameras. If you owned a store or factory then make it and decide on price. You put in the work and decide how much you get paid as photographer right. 400$ more than A7C which is outdated now doesn’t seem that pricy. The more you use your camera the higher cheaper it is what you bought it for. Are you an accountant or photographer ? Honestly just buy whatever and use it. I must have used my A7C like hundreds of times every year I bought it on paid jobs. It’s easily paid for itself
Me too. I want better photo capabilities in my camera and a viewfinder, which is why I'm still leaning towards the Lumix S5iix right now. The Sony ZVE1 is interesting, though. It has a ton of lens options and some crazy AI features for solo content creators. Still, not enough to win me over.
@@ryejack stick with Sony, it is the camera for obsequious sycophants and content creator roadies. People that have no idea how to actually use a camera and think that mediocretube is quality product, ROTFLMFAO
Main Con of this Camera to me is the Heat Dissipation which affects recording time Primarily both internally & externally High Duration Recording is the heart of a camera but it's reasonable I guess but in Countries like India I dunno how it can survive 'cuz 4k 30 can't even survive a 30°C for more than 30 mins and here in India it's atleast 38°C or more so.... It's either FX3 or A7Siv (yet to be launched)
Cool features, but I don't get the point to create a compact FF camera that you have to pair with a 3x bigger lens than the body itself. And moreover we speak about a 2500€ camera, more expensive than an FX30. The problem with Sony is they release a pro camera with certain features and a couple of months later a "beginner" camera with more features and they never add these for the older models.
damn you actually sold your A7Siii for this?? i've been hearing most 'pros' kinda snub their nose at this new model.. ( because they all already have an FX3 or A7siii or both) ... i only have a Z Cam S6.., but want something smaller to have too for ease of use.. I'm leaning toward this or the R8... if I had more money though.., I'd probably get the A7siii or FX3... but I don't have $ like that.. i wish it had a viewfinder, 2 card slots, full hdmi, and didn't have overheating potentials... the last one is what really worries me.. still might get it though.. if i could find a used A7siii for this price though,, id still get that i think..
I've probably watched every review of this camera and concluded that it's certainly not meant for content creators. Sony hasn't sent the E1 to any fashion, travel, beauty, fitness, lifestyle, food, etc vloggers for reviews, whom are the people it's supposedly made for. Sony has only sent it to videographers that mainly compare the E1 to the FX3 or A7S3 instead of comparing it to the E10 or other cameras in the ZV line up. This is definitely much more of an A series camera, than a ZV series.
It is missing alot of the features their A series uses need for professional use though, no viewfinder, no dual cards(can't shoot a wedding with this), proper heat management, other channels showing it falls apart above 25c. This is a camera for tech people not professionals, those that buy off what the product sheet says not how it performs in critical situations. This will be bought by hobbyist and UA-cam producers. It will have huge sales and make sony a ton of money as it ticks all the boxes this audience wants.
this is being sent to influencers so their sycophants will buy it not to actual content creators, good business move actually sell it to the know nothings

Sony 11mm 1.8 apsc will be your best wide angle lens I think. Mostly in dynamic stabe, where it crops anyways, you don't have to adjust a thing.
it's only 12mp so go with some cheap low resolution shit glass since it can't make use of quality glass anyway. Save the money
Same sensor, same function. Rolling shutter is the same, low light performance is the same!
Lumix s2 for the same money is better?
Lumix is cheaper!
still no 4k120, over heating issues, no double card slot (HUGE KILLER FOR ME), no EVF, no full HDMI
this will not be replacing my a7S III.
Nice review and video as usual ! and oufh this one got me curious as a daily driver 😮💨
where is your settings video link??
Do you keep your 16-35 f2.8 GM for most of your stuff or are you going ti switch to the PZ f4 16-35?
I’ll keep my GM for as long as I can haha!
Hey peter! You think it's worth in getting the zv-e1 instead of the A7s3?? I was literally going to pull the trigger on the a7s3/fx3..
Do you film in area's that get hotter than 25c? do a search on ZV-E1 heat issues.
If you’re gonna buy a workhorse, get the FX3 👌🏼
Do they make a cage for this yet??
what is the lens he using called
What was the temperature in your room when doing the heat test?
22-23 degrees ish
Overheating seems to be the biggest killer of this camera. Any thoughts? 😊
Haven’t had any issues with that myself! Did a couple of tests above an hour without issues
@@PeterLindgren1 considering this, a7iv or fx30. How do you see this in that mix !
Looks like a non-summer vacay camera.
I've seen tests where it recorded for just over two hours without overheating. I think the main cause of overheating will be long recordings. But, if you don't do long interviews or long shots, you should be good.
move to canada,
What do you think about this for Music Video recording?
Thanks Peter for another useful and interesting video! 😃👍
Only interesting thing is the ReWorked Menu and Functions from the FX3 .. otherwise i would say no
Hey Peter do you think Sony would bring some of the features of the ZV-E1 to the A7SIII as a firmware update? Edit. Nevermind I see that you already answered that in a previous response
Peter, what was your experience with overheating?
Watch the video =)
@@PeterLindgren1 Haha fair enough, I was watching it but dad duty called.
Hi Peter, now that you have had this for a while, how do you find the overheating ? And in 4k 120? Have the a7s3 but torn between the zv-e1 or a7s4 for b cam
Haven’t been an issue once 🫡
Great video Peter but I would never get rid of my FX3 or even the A73s for this. Heat management and size matter to me. However, i do find it extremely frustrating that Sony tries to squueze money out of people by intentionally not pushing these new software updates to their "slightly" older flagships. This camera has the same hardware as Fx3/A7s3. You think we are going to see these software updates? 🙃
I haven’t experienced any overheating issues, but I get it!
I doubt there will be any updates 🫡
They cant be any update Its only the new chipset who is hardware that enable this possibility
good for the full frame, this will be good for a second body for me, like the lut thing
Works great for me!
Didn't even notice the lack of viewfinder, which you point out, is unnecessary for most non-photographers
As a vlogger, this is a great camera.
I've been using Sony ZV-E10 for the past year, so this would be a great step-up. Can you use the e-mount APS-C lenses from that with this ZV-E1 camera?
Yup!
Very nice review peter what about low light video.
Same as the SIII
I am wondering if the 4K120 is going to be 4:2:2 as there is only a SD card slot…
You can shoot that on a V90 card, but not in ALL I codec 👍🏼. So it’ll be recorded to the Sd Card 🫡
Don't forget you gotta buy lenses for this $2,200 camera. If you're a UA-camr who's mostly going to keep the camera on a tripod, your best bet is to go with the Sony Z90 camcorder.
I think Dynamic Steady Shot + the aps-c 15mm f1.4 would be an awesome combo for this camera!!!
That would be like a 30mm lens 😅
Dynamic steady shot is automatically a 1.5 crop 👍🏼
Thanks for the review. But not I’m torn between this and the FX30 lol
How much is it?
Overheating solved with $10 Amazon heat sink (4 of them at 50mmx40mmx10mm)
Can this use cfexpress card?

@@PeterLindgren1 Have you found any reliable leaks? can you tell me the specifications that will be carried?
Small cam with A7sIII technique but I think there is a massive heating problem 😢
I see it's full frame and I see it's smol... Now I'm researching if it would work for me on an FPV drone!
It has Ibis :(
@@PeterLindgren1 Dang, stuck with hero 11. But that with firmware tweaks can look amazing!
So it`s not changing actual aspect just adds black bars?
Yup. Anyways, didn’t get a dime for this video, nor did they have any say in the edit.
@@PeterLindgren1 Well. Looks like it`s just an coincidence that a lot of vide related bloggers on youtube uploaded reviews for this camera same day. A lot of them same hour. Haha.
It’s called an embargo lift. Meaning we are not allowed to talk about the camera before Sony has announced it officially 👍🏼
@@PeterLindgren1 wow, my bad, didn`t know that. Thank you for review.
Good Luck Herr Lindgren! 30 Second videos with ur new ZV-E1. Overheating will the Arctic Wolf which will finish the reindeer off! Oh well, look at it this way. Short videos, save storage space & editing time. 😎😎
Someone didn't watch the video =)!
@@PeterLindgren1 Jason Morris in down under and ur buddy Herr Undone did a whole slew of tests just for u. Free, u didn't even have to buy the camera. Guess what? Their cameras overheated like crazy! So I know that camera would be perfect for me too-just like u cause I'm in Fairbanks, Alaska! I could also make 30 second videos! Hey a good commerical only needs to be 15 seconds or less & they can cost a ton of money! Good for the filmmaker! I worked on two for one company a few years back that cost tons of cash--up on a glacier! We could shoot two more, they were both 15 seconds long! 😎😎
Would love to see this compared to lumix s5 mk 2 since they are around same price
Me too. I want better photo capabilities in my camera and a viewfinder, which is why I'm still leaning towards the Lumix S5iix right now. The Sony ZVE1 is interesting, though. It has a ton of lens options and some crazy AI features for solo content creators. Still, not enough to win me over.
@@ryejack I hope someone makes a video soon. But I do want a good hybrid camera so lumix may be the better choice between the two.

Main Con of this Camera to me is the Heat Dissipation which affects recording time Primarily both internally & externally
High Duration Recording is the heart of a camera but it's reasonable I guess but in Countries like India I dunno how it can survive 'cuz 4k 30 can't even survive a 30°C for more than 30 mins and here in India it's atleast 38°C or more so.... It's either FX3 or A7Siv (yet to be launched)
Don’t shoot in india
Cool features, but I don't get the point to create a compact FF camera that you have to pair with a 3x bigger lens than the body itself. And moreover we speak about a 2500€ camera, more expensive than an FX30.
The problem with Sony is they release a pro camera with certain features and a couple of months later a "beginner" camera with more features and they never add these for the older models.
The FX30 is an APSC though, so not comparable. But I like the small form factor 🤘🏼. I do agree that their update policy with firmwares SUCK

damn you actually sold your A7Siii for this?? i've been hearing most 'pros' kinda snub their nose at this new model..
I’m a Sony shooter but seriously considering S5ii Lumix… seems better value for the $$. Maybe I’ll see what the Lumix S1Hii brings
Starting to get to a point where you can't go wrong with any brand almost!
The microphone may be as good as on Nikon Z30 which is the best internal camera mic on the market.
Great Vlog camera with that stabilization and Front/ Back microphone directionality
Was considering getting a a7c but might have to just buy this
I've probably watched every review of this camera and concluded that it's certainly not meant for content creators.
Film makers like who?
It is missing alot of the features their A series uses need for professional use though, no viewfinder, no dual cards(can't shoot a wedding with this), proper heat management, other channels showing it falls apart above 25c.
This is a camera for tech people not professionals, those that buy off what the product sheet says not how it performs in critical situations.
This will be bought by hobbyist and UA-cam producers. It will have huge sales and make sony a ton of money as it ticks all the boxes this audience wants.
this is being sent to influencers so their sycophants will buy it not to actual content creators, good business move actually sell it to the know nothings
such a sick camera!
Is the low light capabilities the same as the a7siii?
yeah
Does this have dual native iso?
