Sure, some people ask questions they could answer for themselves if they'd think things through. But critical thinking isn't something, that comes natural to everybody.

That is untrue. The will said that HIS slave were to be freed. Over half the slaves at Mount Vernon belonged to Mrs Washington and her kids (grandkids) via her first husband's will. GW did not free those slaves. He would have had to buy them from the Custis family to free them. Mrs. W never freed her own slaves which meant that the families the slaves made together were torn a part when GW's slaves were freed. In his will, he acknowledged this would happen and he was deeply troubled by it.

I immediately thought of my class trip to Washington D.C. where we also rode to Mount Vernon (not in D.C., but we still went). Now that I’ve read the description, I’m almost certain that you were the actor answering all those questions while we waited to be let in (or while we were on the tour outside the house, my memory’s a little fuzzy), and I remember some people asking some of these questions almost word-for-word. I used to work at this exact historic site and I’m horrified but also not shocked about what people asked. I overheard soo many offensive questions and comments during my four years working there.
This was just recommended to me. You have all my sympathies. I had to tell US servicemen that no, WW2 was not only about defeating Japan and Germany was not our ally. This was in a museum as I explained the importance of Philadelphia during WW2, the shipyards, and the Delaware River. I did this multiple times a day. They would argue with me. These are not people I want going off to war if they can't name Ally and Axis during WW2. But this? This level of ignorance is even worse. I used to work at this exact historic site and I’m horrified but also not shocked about what people asked. I overheard soo many offensive questions and comments during my four years working there.
This was just recommended to me. You have all my sympathies. I had to tell US servicemen that no, WW2 was not only about defeating Japan and Germany was not our ally. This was in a museum as I explained the importance of Philadelphia during WW2, the shipyards, and the Delaware River. I did this multiple times a day. They would argue with me. These are not people I want going off to war if they can't name Ally and Axis during WW2. But this? This level of ignorance is even worse.

JAMIE...If people were in a museum, asking questions, they were there to learn. You were not there to ridicule people, or to make fun of them. You were being paid to honor their interest in history, at whatever level or starting point.
