Clearly those teachers have never been to the part of upstate New York where people have confederate flags. They can’t even argue that it’s part of their heritage because they’re from the north. It’s solely because they’re racist hillbillies.

The British promised freedom to any slave that ran away to fight on their side. It is very hard to get an accurate count of blacks on the American side because many were taken to war as slaves to their masters and fought along side them. Others were sent to fight in their master's place. So their names weren't recorded. Historians say that the Rev War was the most racially integrated war prior to Vietnam.

Asiah Kelley so if everyone in the time period is racist but one side of the racist people want to keep slavery (the south) and one side of the racist people want to get rid of slavery (the north) Southerners are still going to roast Northerners for being racist as if they weren’t racist and didn’t want to keep slavery. I’m just saying that I hear a lot of southerners who think the North is more racist but I think wanting to keep slavery intact is more racist out of the two...it’s like they forget that part...

comm744 If you knew anything about history then you would know that the political parties during the time of the Civil War do not exist anymore and are not the same as the political parties today. If you have to compare them though the party of the South (the slavery party as you put it) was the Southern Democratic Party, which is not affiliated with today’s Democratic Party. They had ideologies that more closely resemble today’s Republican Party as they were conservative.

Not dumb at all!! The lady's maid I researched at MV had 6 children. The older children took care of the younger ones, as did elderly women and women doing sit-down tasks like spinning wool. People helped each other. Children had a lot of work to do. They tended the slaves' vegetable gardens and other chores. Children started working for the Washingtons at 10 yrs old, when they would apprentice to learn their job. Pls also remember most masters sold slave children for profit to avoid this issue.

Worth enough to free people from slavery. It wasn’t like in Haiti where slaves rebelled and made their own country. In Europe and in the US, racist abolitionists still helped people enough to get where we are today. Racism may still exist. But slavery, for the most part, doesn’t (unless we’re talking about the underground sex trade).

@@mrsloveydove4579 you'd be surprised.. There is more modern day slavery and human trafficking than ever before. Just because someone is not in shackles doesn't mean they aren't a slave. Loads of people are used for labour and are paid dirt. Not to mention incarceration rates in the US which have doubled since the 2000s. Prisoners which are disproportionetly black and latino are used for "community work" by big companies so that is basically modern day slavery. I reccommend you watch '13th' on Netflix.

Thing is, we don't have to pretend to go back in time, we got many of enslaved persons on plantations today called prisons and immigration detention facilities. Thirteenth Amendment: Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Just like slavery is not a thing of the past, neither is abolitionism. I am a NEW ABOLITIONIST.

Then why do schools still exist? I'm pretty sure children aren't mass murderers... unless you count the time they made their parents want to commit suicide as a baby...

People in prison are not "ENSLAVED".
They have committed crimes that they have been lawfully convicted of.
Their incarnation is a result of their own actions.

    • @freezerounds

@@williamegler8771 That doesn't address or debunk anything they said. It's still directly stated in the 13th amendment that slavery and involuntary servitude *can* exist in the United States as a punishment for crime. That's what prison labor is, and it's wrong. And let's not forget the prison-industrial complex and the school-to-prison pipeline.

The last line "I would very much like to touch your hair" I have had my hair groped by people I either do not know or barely know 5 times this week alone. This made me laugh because many white people are oblivious to their outrageous and uncivilised behaviour but it also hurts that is so wide spread and has been for such a long time.

I have to say thank you for making this show. It's very educational and the insight it gives into the life of a slave is so different from what one might learn simply reading about it from the outside view the writers of modern textbooks give. That's not to mention it's simply entertaining to watch, making learning fun. It's a bit disheartening to see that people are truly this ignorant about certain matters, though...but perhaps I was just raised with better access to this sort of information.
