If you have to compare them though the party of the South (the slavery party as you put it) was the Southern Democratic Party, which is not affiliated with today’s Democratic Party. They had ideologies that more closely resemble today’s Republican Party as they were conservative.

People helped each other. Children had a lot of work to do. They tended the slaves' vegetable gardens and other chores. Children started working for the Washingtons at 10 yrs old, when they would apprentice to learn their job. Pls also remember most masters sold slave children for profit to avoid this issue.

That son is now a 16-yr old who won himself a scholarship to a prestigious private school & has maintained straight As. He's acclimated just fine.

Your spirit makes me smile - I think the world would be better with more minds like yours thinking and creating and making people laugh. Worth enough to free people from slavery. It wasn’t like in Haiti where slaves rebelled and made their own country. In Europe and in the US, racist abolitionists still helped people enough to get where we are today. Racism may still exist. But slavery, for the most part, doesn’t (unless we’re talking about the underground sex trade).

Loads of people are used for labour and are paid dirt. Not to mention incarceration rates in the US which have doubled since the 2000s. Prisoners which are disproportionetly black and latino are used for "community work" by big companies so that is basically modern day slavery. I reccommend you watch '13th' on Netflix.

I have to say thank you for making this show. It's very educational and the insight it gives into the life of a slave is so different from what one might learn simply reading about it from the outside view the writers of modern textbooks give. That's not to mention it's simply entertaining to watch, making learning fun. It's a bit disheartening to see that people are truly this ignorant about certain matters, though...but perhaps I was just raised with better access to this sort of information.

The last line "I would very much like to touch your hair" I have had my hair groped by people I either do not know or barely know 5 times this week alone. This made me laugh because many white people are oblivious to their outrageous and uncivilised behaviour but it also hurts that is so wide spread and has been for such a long time.

I have to say thank you for making this show. It's very educational and the insight it gives into the life of a slave is so different from what one might learn simply reading about it from the outside view the writers of modern textbooks give. That's not to mention it's simply entertaining to watch, making learning fun. It's a bit disheartening to see that people are truly this ignorant about certain matters, though...but perhaps I was just raised with better access to this sort of information.
What a time to recommend this to me.
