So do you think it would be problematic to do it opposite direction from inside to outside? Not the cage but scaling up the balloon?

It works. But I found that sometimes the collisions weren't as accurate and it would hang/clip into the cage more often because the faces were stretched so they weren't hitting with as much accuracy.
