My Philosophy: I love music. I love all kinds of music. And I go into every album wanting to love it, so that’s my starting point for every review. Keep in mind, though, that music is a very personal thing. An album may hit me personally in a very different way than it hits you. That’s complexly natural and unavoidable, which is why I try to include some personal context in my reviews. It’s so you’ll have a better idea where I’m coming from. In the end, it’s still just my personal opinion, which is inherently biased, and which you may or may not agree with. Hopefully, once in a while, we’ll find common ground.

RRHOF is a JOKE... that being said, Foreigner (now a glorified tribute band with ZERO original members...) finally gets a nomination... but Bad Company has never been nominated even once... Paul Rodgers not in the RRHOF...? What a total SHAME... as in R&R Hall of SHAME...

@@TrackXTrack You definitely avoid nastiness, which is why I enjoy your videos. Most of the other UA-camrs will attack which annoys me. One got me annoyed in 2022 when they cut down Duran Duran, saying they don't belong and they aren't rock. They do belong and by its strictest definition ARE a rock band. In fact I always put them in the same category as bands like U2 and the Cure who are both very similar and rarely hear the "oh they aren't rock" comments about them yet about Duran Duran. Like he stated rap is really a progression of Rock and Roll and had it been around in the 50s would have been lumped into the rock and roll category, as R&B acts have. The only inductees you can realistically argue is "above" in terms of influence are Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash and this years nominee in Eric B and Rakim.
Wu-Tang's influence is everywhere in hip-hop, like the thing people associate with the New York sound of hip-hop, that's the Rza, mafioso rap that's Raekwon and Ghostface, 5 percenter imagery that's Gza. I totally support inducting hip hop artists as hip hop is a part of rock 'n' roll, just as R&B, soul, and funk are part of rock 'n' roll. The problem with the Hall isn't that they're inducting hip hop artists but that they aren't inducting enough of them. My choice for the biggest Rock Hall sub is Outkast. I agree with you that Mariah Carey should be inducted, but it sounded like you were saying that Kool & the Gang shouldn't be, and if so, I disagree with that. I say they should have been inducted at least 20 years ago.

Well April coming up and announcement soon and I should have better things to do but I don’t. Anyway this is an aside it might have been you but can’t remember but when I complained about the Steppenwolf snub, guy told me about a list of individual songs the RocknRoll Hall of Fame put in that have icontributed to and influenced rocknroll. He pointed out Born to Be Wild was listed so technically they are in there just not as an Artist . Aqualung by Jethro Tull is also in there but still these guys deserve more over some of the lamos that have been inducted as Artists . I consider that song list to being better than outright omission or no mention . Now most glaring omission on that list . Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty or maybe Stuck In The Middle With You by Rafferty’s group Stealer’s Wheel .

    • @TrackXTrack
      @TrackXTrack  3 місяці тому +1

It was probably me that mentioned "Born to be Wild" was inducted as a single. I believe I talked about it in one of the Rock Hall Snubs videos. Jethro Tull is not in the Rock Hall at all. "Aqualung" has not been inducted as a single, either. In fact, the singles category hasn't been used since 2020, which is a shame. I think it is a great way to recognize acts whose biggest contribution to rock was really a song... a moment in time... rather than a career. To that end, I think Steppenwolf has received the appropriate level of attention for their iconic single. I don't think they are worthy of induction as a performer. Just my opinion, of course.

      @dagnabbit6187 3 місяці тому +1

@@TrackXTrack Well I saw where they had a list of 500 hundred songs and then some additional ones after the five hundred . This is a team of the usual personnel . A combination of the Curator and Writers , Historians etc . I think it is there . I googled it . If it is so I guess this has obviously been done to quell the mob that hates the Hall and wants it out of the people ,who makes these egregious snub decisions , hands . I understand the logic for Steppenwolf . As one fan said “ They weren’t influential “ Still the other inclusion stunts the Hall has pulled renders that argument nil. Just a side thought here . In the 1990s , Musician’s magazine did a top 100 Guitarists of the 20 th Century . It included all genres . It was a good one . A well thought out one . The editor dropped plenty of entertaining anecdotes with the selection process . I won’t go into all of them but one was “ How can you list mother Maybelle Carter and not Roy Clark . Roy Clark was fast as lightning but he wasn’t the fastest nor very influential. Mother Maybelle Carter influenced the way thousands of guitarists played with her famous Church lick “ Anyway if that lengthy list is true by the RocknRoll Hall of Fame then it is a good inclusive list . The RocknRoll Hall of Fame might want to do one with Albums . Captain Beefheart’s Trout Mask Replica and Love’s Forever Changes would be a good start . I hope you are familiar with those two landmark LPs

My list of 54 acts not in the RARHOF could go down by three: Ambrosia, America, The B-52’s, Bad Company, Badfinger, Bjork, Blood Sweat & Tears, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Bread, The Charlatans UK, Devo, Dick Dale, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Brian Eno, Foreigner (nominated), Free, Grand Funk Railroad, The Grass Roots, The Guess Who, Humble Pie, Ian Hunter, INXS, Tommy James & The Shondells, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Kool & The Gang (nominated), Love, Don McLean, Mott The Hoople, Harry Nilsson, Oasis (nominated), The Ohio Players, Peter Paul & Mary, Procol Harum, Paul Rodgers, Simple Minds, Sparks, Steppenwolf, Supertramp, Sweet, 10cc, Tears For Fears, Television, Thin Lizzy, Three Dog Night, Tower Of Power, Vangelis, War, Edgar Winter, X, Weird Al Yankovic, and Warren Zevon. Will any of the other 51 even get nominated, let alone inducted?

Most of the voters are over 65 years old with much of the rest over 45 years old and thus in their 20's to early 40's when many of these acts were active. This means the more popular an act was when they were active, the better chance they have of getting elected, though if they do extra well in the fan vote and there could be some voters who try to vote strategically and if enough do, then they could fall short this year...
    Predictions 7 get in...
    1. Cher
    2. Ozzy Osbourne
    3. Foreigner
    4. Mariah Carey
    5. Kool & the Gang
    6. & 7. either Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Lenny Kravitz, or Mary J Blige
Cher - Her acting career (including in the Abba inspired sequel to Mamma Mia,
Top 40 hits in different genres of music from psychadelic rock to broadway to disco to hard rock, to doo wop, to electronic dance
(1960's) "All I Really Want to Do", "Where Do Yo Go","Bang, Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", "Alfie", "You Better Sit Down Kids"

(1990's) "Heart of Stone", "The Shoop, Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)", "Love and Understanding", "Save Up All Your Tears", "Believe"
Ozzy Osbourne - His reality TV Show, Ozzfest, "Crazy Train", "Paranoid", "Mr. Crowley", "Bark at the Moon", "If I Close My Eyes Forever" duet with Lita Ford, "Momma, I'm Coming Home"Duets with EltonJohn and Post Malone, etc...
Foreigner - Mainly the legendary voice of Lou Gramm and their many Top 40 Hits, "Feels Like The First Time", "Cold as Ice", "Long Long Way From Home", "Hot Blooded", "Double Vision", "Blue Morning, Blue Day", "Dirty White Boy", "Head Games", "Urgent" with Junior Walker on sax, "Waiting for a Girl Like You", "Juke Box Hero", "Break It Up", "I Want to Know What Love Is", "That Was Yesterday", "Say You Will", "I Don't Want to Live Without You"
Mariah Carey - 19 Billboard Number 1 singles, second only to the Beatles, 28 Top 10 Billboard songs, etc...Her covers of Harry Nilsson's "Without You" & Foreigner's "I Wanna Know What Love Is" and many duets including with Whitney Houston, Boyz II Men, Luther Vandross, etc...
Kool & the Gang - Top 40 hits (1970's) "Funky Stuff", "Jungle Boogie", "Hollywood Swinging", "Higher Plane", "Spirit of the Boogie", "Ladies Night", "Too Hot"
(1980's) "Celebration", "Jones vs Jones", "Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It)", "Get Down On It", "Big Fun", "Let's Go Dancin' (Ooh La, La La)", "Joana", "Tonight", "Fresh", "Misled", "Cherish", "Emergency", "Victory", "Stone Love"
There music ranged from Funk to Soul to Disco to Pop and R&B, they also popularized the Jheri Curl.
Dave Matthews Band - Getting the top spot of the fan vote and not getting in the last time they were nominated, plus a handful of recognizable songs put them on the fence of getting in this year. My guess is they are more likely to get in this year than not.
Peter Frampton - One multi-hit record "Frampton Comes Alive", his reputation as a guitar legend and his failing health possibly helps him to get in this year, though he is also on the fence. Should go in with a Musical Excellence Award rather than as a Performer, so he may get the Judas Priest treatment if he is close to getting in.
Lenny Kravitz - Rock guitar God who is as much known for being Katniss Everdeen's Stylist in The Hunger Games movies. Songs he is known for are "It Ain't Over Til It's Over", "Are You Going My Way", "Fly Away", his cover of The Guess Who's "American Woman", "Again", "Dig In", "Lady"
And he is the father of actress Zoe Kravitz
Mary J Blige - Top 40 hits "You Remind Me", "Real Love", "Sweet Thing", "Be Happy", "I'm Goin' Down", "Mary Jane (All Night Long)", "Not Goin' Cry", "I Can Love You" with Lil Kim, "Everything", "Family Affair", "No More Drama", "Rainy Dayz" with Ja Rule, "Love @ 1st Sight" with Method Man, "Ooh!", "Be Without You", "Just Fine", "Runaway Love" with Ludacris, "911" with Wyclef Jean, Just Stand Up" (to Breast Cance)(with Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and other women),
She also sung in the Rock Musical "Rock of Ages 3 songs, "Harden My Heart" (originally by Quarterflash), "Shadows of the Night" (originally by Pat Benatar), and "Anyway You Want It" (originally by Journey), and sang part of the ending song "Don't Stop Believin'" (also originally by Journey)
She may get in thanks to not having a more famous rap/hip hop nominee.
As for those who I don't think will have a good chance of getting in this year.
A Tribe Called Quest and Eric B. & Rakim are so niche that only hardcore rap fans will vote for them and among the voter base they do not make up a significant enough group. Had the selection committee nominated Lil Wayne, Ludicrous, Daddy Yankee, Snoop Dogg or 50 Cent, then rap would have one of the 7 spots. Many of the casual rap voters will largely vote for Mariah Carey, Kool & the Gang, Mary J Blige, Sade, & Lenny Kravitz, some will also vote for Ozzy because of his reality TV Show, Foreigner because of their hit songs, and maybe Sinead O'Connor because her hit was a cover of a Prince song.
Sinead O'Connor has one hit song which was a cover, one memorable performance of that song on Saturday Night Live and a shallow discography in comparison to the other nominees.
Jane's Addiction has a shallow discography and aside from one to maybe a few songs which have been used in other media.
Oasis is better known than Jane's Addiction in the voting populace, but still other than Wonderwall and maybe one or two of their other songs, the Brit pop of the 1990's probably isn't as well known with a voting populace largely over the age of 65.
Sade's jazz pop fusion is better known than the other also rans but other than Smooth Operator, The Sweetest Taboo, & No Ordinary Love, the average voter will struggle to come up with a fourth or fifth song, though they did have two more Top 40 songs.
The nine who have a real chance at election have several songs that are fairly easy to come to mind or have a pop culture presence significant enough that they could garner enough votes to get elected.

Cher and Brian Enos as musical excellence, Casey Kasum and Rick Dees as non performers. John Coltrane and Patsy Cline as early influence. I’m happy Kool and the Gang finally is on ballot. Well since I am not on any social media except this one (I x d out of Twitter 2 years go ) I feel like doing another post for all my music buddies out there . Every day I vote for Peter Frampton , Cher , Lenny Kravitz , Kool and the Gang , Foreigner , Ozzy Osbourne , and Jane’s Addiction . My favorite is Peter Frampton. It looks like he has a good chance of getting in but last year my horse was Warren Zevon and look what happened . Even the very retired David Letterman came out of his hermitdom to protest that snub . Anyway Frampton is up there in the fans poll . It means a lot of people alive in 1976 like me are still around . Jane’s Addiction is low in the fans poll and I sigh a little . They were innovative and had great music . However the Lead Singer Perry Farrell IS a little feral as in whacked . He often employs over the top antics which can include grossing you out . The Hall has nominated edgy acts before but they rarely induct them . They definitely have parameters and prejudices.

I think after SNL the industry turned its back on Sinead
She is the embodiment of integrity and Rock and Roll
Everyone should listen to All her work and not base it on 1 cover song she had a hit with
    Just listen to her song
    Queen of Denmark and judge
MC5 still the biggest snub and after losing Brother Wayne
Warren Zevon another big miss for the hall
Pixies and Sonic Youth need to go in , so people can stop calling it a joke
Very surprised on you Mariah endorsement , I just don’t see it
    Cher yes
Sade ( huge fan but RRHOF , No )
Ozzy ? Why not Randy Rhodes as sideman thats who deserves it!
I would pick Foreigner over DMB
    And Quest over Rakim
Oasis : would boost publicity with talk of fight or reunion

As for Mariah, I'm not a "fan" of her music, but I think she's second only to Whitney Houston as one of the most iconic female voices of the 80s/90s, and was highly influential on so many women that followed. On top of that, she had tons of hits and global success. In both influence and popularity, I think she's an easy yes for the Rock Hall.

The seven nominees I voted for in the fan vote: Sinead, Sade, Cher, Tribe, Oasis, Kool & the Gang, and Jane's Addiction.
There's a strong case to be made on Sinead. She influenced many prominent female alt-rock singers from Tori Amos to Bjork to PJ Harvey to Alanis Morrisette to Sarah McLachlan to Fiona Apple. She shares a lot in common with Kate Bush because they both influenced these artists. Plus, there's a Showtime documentary on her that came out two years ago that received strong acclaim by critics in addition to a tribute concert at Carnegie Hall next month in her and Shane MacGowan's honor that might raise more awareness of her life and career.

Excellent and maybe one day . Anyway I will not be voting for Oasis. Yes the brothers are turds but that isn’t the reason . For me Badfinger , the Raspberries , Big Star , and Flamin Groovies are much better Beatles force influenced bands than Oasis whom I find mediocre . I think they should have been inducted years ago. I suspect they will because they have Spinner syndrome, aka I think only one original member is still living. I'm glad they inducted the Spinners last year when the last original member could see before he recently passed. I'm not a huge Kool fan, I mean I like many of their music but would not consider myself a big fan by any means. Then again the HOF rarely does the right thing. I do think a few like Ozzy and Mariah are pretty much locks. I know the HOF has screwed over metal many times, but Ozzy is a well known character and far more mainstream than either Judas Priest or Iron Maiden.

It's a very eclectic list this year. I hate that the Rock Hall likes to wait until artists are dead to even nominate them. The fact that Cher isn't in already is CRIMINAL!! I want to see A Tribe Called Quest get in, as so many hip-hop artists cite them as their inspiration. The argument that hip-hop, and by extension, black artists in general, don't belong in the rock hall is old and played and at this point, just sounds racist, which is what it is. In addition to Cher, I would also like to see Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, and Mary J. be inducted.

so you are a fan of Sinead but don't think she should get in because she was not popular enough? Does any female singer embody the spirit of rock more than her? No. She wanted to be a protest singer and knowingly did what she did to get off the track of oop sta so she could be an artist ... while she was never allowed to have another hit son in America she was still popular in America and in Europe and across the world. She broke genres and stylized them with her own unique take. She collaborated with older music icons and contemporary as well ... she rarely did the same kind of album two times in a row. She was revered as one of the best live acts of her time and continued her whole life. For a fan you just don't seem to get it .... she is rock and roll in a female as much as Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and Joe Strummer are rock and roll. She like these men was a heavy hitter who through out her career said what was on her mind and took it on the chin and she sold records dude. How many records did Velvet Underground sale? Not many but their influence is what brought us a large segment of later sub-genre underground acts. You do not get it and should get a full on lecture from someone who does .... the spirit of rock is that of a rebel and a bad ass and someone who shakes things up ... and influences generations long after their death which she certainly will. You are dead wrong ... don't call yourself a fan ... she was more rock and roll than Frampton and Foreigner and the bore that is DMB .... don't call yourself a fan ... you make me ill ... you are kind of a pathetic poseur ...seriously once you said that weak stuff I said I'm done with this clown ... Devo, Gary Numan and Tubeway Army, the Buzzcocks, Generation X .... Billy Idol ... has he even been nominated ???? ... even Styx ... never even nominated ... and we have Mary J. and Mariah Carey on the list ... its just silly ... change the name and please dear god let a real rock hall of fame begin ... Is Melanie the only Woodstock performer NOT inducted in the Rock & Roll H.O.F ? Dolly Parton dropped a turd of a rock album in 2023. A dismal 5 weeks for the expensive project on the Billboard Top 200 album charts and the worst reviews of her career. Biggest bomb of 2023 despite its strong first week of sales and stellar lineup of guest stars.. My out of left field pick is Bobbie Gentry. She was singing Southern rock(Mississippi Delta) and pro-to-rap songs(Reunion )in 1967-68 before the genres even existed. I was glad to see she cashed in big time in 2022. At the age of 80, she signed a massive new multi million dollar publishing deal with U.M.G joining John Fogerty, Paul McCartney and Paul Anka in cashing in on the American legal clause that gives a songwriter or their estate 100% of publishing rights returned after 55 years. McCartney used this legal clause to obtain an incredible 500 million publishing deal for his early Beatles songs with Sony Publishing. As for Cher, she was on the Kelly Clarkston show months ago bitterly complaining about never being nominated for the Rock& Roll H.O.F and flat out stated "They can go **uck themselves" Even if they gave me a million dollars I would not go!"

Still I will vote in fan’s poll for the fun of it . I am really surprised by Peter Frampton nomination which has long been overdue . In 1976 , every college dorm room in the country had Frampton Comes Alive on their turn table . For Boomers I always ask , “ Do you remember where you were July 4 , 1976 , the Bicentennial ? “ Most know and then I answer when they ask of me “ Peter Frampton concert Nashville Tennessee ! “ Oh yes ! Whitney totally deserved her induction, but I don't agree about Mariah. I'm personally surprised she received a nomination considering her history of lipsyncing. I see Sade getting inducted over Mariah. At least I'd prefer that. I see Mariah's nomination being the same as Cyndi Lauper's last year. Cyndi won the fan vote and didn't get inducted. Mariah will finish in the top 5 in the fan vote, but won't make the cut imo. It'll be an upset like how Sheryl Crow & Missy Elliott got inducted over Cyndi even though neither received half the number of votes. The females will be Cher & Sade (Sade Adu). Mary J could be the Missy Elliott of this year since she's the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.

I beleive Whitney also had similar issues later in her career. Also one thing that really separates Mariah from Whitney is that she wrote and produced almost all her songs. Putting aside preference for her music, I think that alone make her even more deserving of an induction than Whitney.
