Exactly. I slept at a hotel this past weekend and woke up without any of the usual lower back pain and stiffness. Returned home, slept in my bed and the pain the next morning was debilitating. The following night I slept on an exercise mat on the floor - "bamb" no pain.
thank you. very helpful. But this is for back sleepers but what about side sleepers ?
Very good advices that I can confirm after trying out different mattresses. Thank you for being honest, a rare thing on the internet!
Now that was the best advice given out of all of my research on mattresses for my back pain. Thank you kindly!
Excellent vlog. Helpful for people having low back pain. Thank You
L5-S1 spondylistheisis @ grade 3… i’ve know this for 50 years…finally someone who actually is intelligent ….refreshing

This is the BEST Video I have seen, in the process of purchasing a mattress. This was Truly Helpful🙏❤
This is very helpful, thank you for this video
Great and informative!
Excellent video thank you!
Great advice man. Thanks
Very useful indeed. I think I need a harder mattress. Thanks Will.
Perfect solution! thank you
What if you’re a side sleeper and the back pain feels best when you walk around or get up? What type of mattress works best then?
Really Helpful Bother! Thanks a ton!
So helpftul thank you
Makes perfect sense! Well done
Thank you!
Thank you! Great information. Do I follow these guidelines if I sleep on my side?
I have back pain, hips, legs, everything. When i go away the mattress is soft and i didnt know what is was like to wake uo without severe backpain until i slept on a soft one. I have to change mine, its firm, and i wake up in agony. I fall alseep on my side and wake up on my back always. I was told soft mattress is bad for u but for me it turns out i need a soft one even tho he said in the vid a firm one is for back pain like mine
same here. if you read my comment, I have your same issues and I need a firm mattress but with some softness to it! memory foam toppers make my but sink and this makes the pain worse (although it relief my shoulder as a side sleeper). I have to try latex topper or try latex bed and see if it is right for me.
Thanks for the advice
Happy to help!
In my 30’s look for a new mattress to support my lower back pain and sciatica… this was extremely helpful
Same here
Thank you.
Thank you 😊
It's absolutely true.
Thank you very informative! I had a hard Emma mattress and it set off my pwriformis so we returned it and got a softer mattress. But now I think we went too soft. I brought a newentor flip topper that has a soft side and hard side I hope it helps!
Thank so much for this video, which is very good. But I want to know what about side sleepers? If they have back pain.
Thank you!
No problem!
Dear Lord not one person Ive heard ever mentioned this! So I’m a flexion mov pref, it makes so much sense to why I have recently returned a firm mattress and why sleeping on a soft sofa gave me so much relief!! You solved my problem THANK YOU!
So pleased I could be of help! I hope you find sleeping a bit easier going forward!
What about side sleepers?
Holy shit. I'm gonna try a soft mattress. This guy is amazing.
Thank you! I hope it proves beneficial for you!
Thank you. Please can you recommend a good chair or couch for watching TV in the evening with back pain. I can lie on my couch which is comfy, but my back is worse an stiffer afterwards.
I have pain when bending forward. I have a sleep number that I can adjust firmness as needed. I tend to keep mine around the middle but am a side sleeper.
Bending forward is bad for me also standing still. Leaning back helps. I just purchased a firm mattress, only 2 nights so far so, I will give it a chance,. Thanks for this.
How is it now
Nice
This is very helpful, do you have advice on buying mattress toppers?
I hv bought several mattress toppers. All were bad for my back. 😮
But you completely disregarded people who sleep on their side, which is my case, and I have disc problems.
Yes, what advice for side sleepers?
same question as one already asked,i sleep on my side, will a Tepur or similar mattress help?
What about people who sleep on their side?
Im confused when i sit or lean back i get sciatic symptoms when i stand up or lean forward they go away isnt that the opposite of what people usually feel?
So, this is funny, but my problem is the hopposite you stated: I have lumbosciatica, where the disc between my last lombar vertebrae and first sacral one is a bit consumed. I also have hyper lordosis. So when I walk too much i start to feel the pain in my lower back. I changed my mattress (it was past its time) and I bought a very firm one which was ok for my back problem (when I was sleeping on my back) because made my back very strait. On the other hand, it was too hard on my upper back and shoulders when I was sleeping on my side. So I tryed a memory foam topper (6cm) and my back sunk in, causing my hyperlordosis to aggravate! I was waking up with sore hips and it was a pain while I was walking durring the day.
I am waiting on a latex topper to see if it helps me.
I must say I slept the best nights of my life on a latex bed, on the floor, in one of my trip to Seoul! I was waking up with no pain everywhere and I could walk miles durring the day. So, now that I am searching for the best mattress for me, I am thinking of buying a whole latex bed.
I experience numbness on my arms, shoulders, back, rear and legs on whichever side I lay on. With my current 8 inch foam mattress I just sink almost down to the wooden base. I can't sit in bed or lay on my back without my back and rear going numb. Any area or my body I lay on with any pressure goes partly numb from sinking into the mattress.
What kind of spring or hybrid mattress offers the best support to prevent sinking too far, but still soft enough to not add more pressure causing numbness?
Is there any way to make a medium soft mattress harder?
Salute Sir
Mattress companies will still charge you fees for returning a mattress. On top of firmness of mattress there is also amount of soft material on top of springs that can be 3-4 inches!
What about for people who sleep on their side?
I have personally found that the activity which causes the most back discomfort for myself is: driving a car. I can sit for hours in front of a computer, as long as I am sitting on a hard seat, NOT a comfy chair or sofa with a very spongey seat material. I think I would probably be better off with a firmer than average mattress.
Hi! Great video, Will. Thank you! Curious if this is the same for side sleepers? My hips always hurt when I sleep on a hard bed so even though my back prefers to be upright, I have a very soft bed to help my hips. Just curious about what you would recommend in this situation?
That is my issue as well.
Me too
Pillow top mattress is probably the worst. Also can’t flip it
But, in a soft mattress, your hips will sink in more, causing the hips to flex forward and your lower back to arch, which is bad.
Is centralising pain while I sleep a good sign? Sleep has been uncomfortable recently but the ache has now moved into my back whilst I sleep rather than my foot.
Yes that is a good sign in general. Healing is happening or something is helping.
I've been thinking i need a firm mattress all this time. I got a sleep number ill keep it soft. Firm was hurting my back
Why do you assume people sleep on their back?
2/3 don't sleep on their back.
Your advice is very useful, but not for the majority watching this video.
I'm currently sleeping on a new all-foam mattress and the problem I find is that my hips sink deep into it, causing that C shape curve to be more pronounced as I sleep, leaving me with lower back pain when I wake up. I'm ready to send this mattress back to the store and I'm pretty sure I needed something firmer, possibly with springs in it for added support at the hips.
Any thoughts, Will?
Spring one turns worst for me. I am using since 6 months, out of only few days no pain but 80% days pain back
A jaká matrace,se zde mluví? Neumím anglicky a nejsou zde české titulky...
What if it hurts all the time no matter what and youve had 3 spine surgeries
I tried one that was trolley hard, it literally broke my back 😂 then I got a medium firmness ones and felt a lot better. But I feel like now it’s gotten softer and not as good
Sorry to hear you are still searching for the right one! Can be a long process sometimes!
Should have gotten the firmer mattress and let it wear in.
I guess after 50, no one sleeps on their side or stomach anymore.🤔🤷♂
Moc prosím o nastavení českých titulků..., důležité.Nerozumím Vám, jsem z České republiky a neumím anglicky 😔
This is assuming we lie on our backs though.
BS
What about side sleepers?
