    As soon as they got released, I bought, built and painted a box of these foot knights. I love them as units and I like using them in game. The only time I have been dissapointed in them was during my last game, when I never reached the static shooting line of the Tomb Kings oppisite me - but that was my fault more than anything for not marching them.
    Foot knights can get a lot of synergy when combined with characters. BSB on foot, duelist Baron, damsel/prophetess - I'm trying different things in different games. At their best, they are a solid block of heavy infantry with magical buffs acting as a force multiplier to their respectable fighting prowess. So far, they have never lost a fight without giving a strong account of themselves at the very least. I may be overinvesting in them and thus weakening the rest of my army, but that won't stop me from running them cause I love their look!

    Bunch of great weapon ones (accidentally printed like 40) like to run them as MSU on both flanks of men at arms to counter charge units

    I have 2 big units of them in my 100 Years War English themed Exile army. Don't care if they are any good in the game; rule of cool always comes first!

    I’m playing Bretonia Exiles list in a map campaign so I’m excited to try them out. I expect them to be a big help for my peasant frontline’s leadership while freeing up my mounted knights to go and flank more.

    They are the best damage for points in our roster. Also they trounce empire great swords as our knights of the realm trounce empire knights

      I spam gauntlets of the duel. They are insanely good. Especially if you kill their champion round 1 you can cover their choppy character to waste round 2 on your champion alone.

      Empire greatswords are complete trash, and empire knights only avoid the same label by being core.

      Id argue that since core is usually best used for anvil units state troopers are better than knights. Your characters, special, and rare units are your real damage

      Highest reward on the charge with furious charge as well. The problem is KotR on horseback are so damn good. Countercharge, good frontage with the lance, Lances and the 3+
      I really want to make them work though. Recently i've been doing some Errantry crusade stuff, you get an extra bit of range on the charge which can help, you don't give up the ward save like exiles does, and you can take the frenzy banner if your BSB is in the unit. It's a decent block, especially if you can have a prophetess drop lady's gift on it at the start of the game and then fly off to avoid the opposing level 4's dispel range. (i like battle magic for Arcane urgency, pillar of fire etc)
      Big investment, but they're core, seeing as so many armies just take minimum core and basically achieve nothing with that 25% they're forced to spend, being able to actually play around with a lot of solid choices is nice... just sucks for foot knights that they're competing with such solid options in mounted knights, archers and M@A imo

      @@Hawko1313 They are great on errantry crusade, it also helps that the rules "free up" points because you're gonna want errants over mounted knights of the realm.

    Here is the trick to using knights on foot!!👍
    I have played knights on foot for several games, with great weapons. The trick is to put a Damsel or Prophetess in the unit too
    Give her an asailment spell and the Sword of Swiftness. In combat she will go first and cast her spell.
    I have found this does a decent to great amount of damage in most cases. Which severally limits attacks back from the enemy unit. Then the knights tee off and hit the unit. Especially if the knights charged and gain furious charge.
    I have found this combo is effective and brutal!
    The beauty of the Shield of of Lady. Is that anytime the Damsel or Prophetess is targeted by a melee attack. She immediately retires from the front rank and can still cast certain spells and dispel. Again, another effective combo.

      You can't dispel as your in combat but you can still cast assailment and self spells.
      So what are you using
      Hammerhand (Battle Signature Spell)
      Guarantee and low casting spells in the list. This is most likely the best option.
      The Lady's Wrath (Signature Spell) or Glittering Robe (Illusion Signature Spell) with Spectral Doppelganger (Illusion)
      High cast value spells in this list for a level 2 but you got a 1 in 3 chance to get Doppelganger.
      Flaming Sword (Elementalism)
      I guess if you don't get the spell your going to be used in a supporting role outside the unit or you could take The Lady's Wrath (Signature Spell) still.

      @@grlmgor you are correct about the dispel and "engaged in combat" - that was a slip up on my part.
      The following is my opinion, but the asailment spell I usually use is hammerhand. 2d3 @ str 4, -2 AP usually nets a good return on most enemy units, and cheapest to cast. On average I usually kill about 3 in the enemy fighting rank. Then she does her melee attack and then retires.
      Flaming sword - not worth it as it is only Str 3, and no AP. For a trade of one or two more hits.
      Flammable is not that great in this edition either, also costs 1 more to cast.
      Spectral doppelganger could be good, but you will be using points for a better weapon - to have better attack stats.
      I prefer to use most of my other points on more useful items for my Damsel or Prophetess. Especially for my Prophetess - I buy a lore familiar so I can choose the spells. I also buy the Ruby Ring of Ruin to get a few magic missile shots in before engaging in combat.
      The Lady's Wrath, I have used when I field knights using a sword and board combo. But from most of my games I stick with great weapons.
      Granted peoples play styles are different. But this combo has been the most successful for me - putting a Prophetess on a unit of knights on foot.
      To make it really nasty I put a paladin on foot in the unit with the Headmans Axe or Giant Blade. As his initiative is usually better than most other enemy units as well. This also can help reduce an opponent's fighting rank.

      @@templarwhiskey8167 Doppelganger you can increase your S and AP with The Lady's Wrath.
      Instead of a Paladin with magic items you should take a Barron with a morning star, shield and Gauntlet of the Duel. This way you can champion snipe.

      @@grlmgor true, but doppelganger ganger is a 9+ to cast vs a 7+.
      The paladin, in the unit of knights, is also a BSB. So he may or may not have a magic banner - depending on how I feel.
      Normally my Barron is on horse running around with the virtue of knightly temper with the ogre blade
      Or he will have the virtue of heroism with the sword of battle or the duellist blades.
      These two combos have served me well.
      Morning stars I don't care for. The wording says you only get the str bonus on the first round of combat. When a unit falls back or gives ground and you follow up - you don't get a str bonus in subsequent rounds.
      Seems the lance is the only weapon that can reused - only on the charge.

    I am not sold on them being a 'hidden gem' they're definitely fine espesh compared to empire but as core I can't see myself not taking mounted KOTR and MAA.

    There are two weapons the champ could buy - Sword of the Stout Hearted or Foebreaker. I tend to takes SotSH on my illusion prophetess but if you aren't doing spectral stuff its a really good weapon, especially as it does not confer strikes last. I don't know why these and a few other items aren't in the Forces of Fantasy book but are in Old World builder though, and whether that means its not a "legal" item.

      they're from the arcane journal, fronteir axe can only be taken by brettonian exiles, SotSH is generally good though

    So having finished your video now. I think you're misunderstanding their role. All bretonian knights are hammer units. Not anvil units. The knights of the realm on foots role is a counter charge unit that can move along with men at arms. I like to use my mounted knights for actual flanking. The knights of the realm on foot I keep just out of reach right by my men at arms to counter charge. Everyone acts mighty ill I use 117 points of great weapons to charge for 17 ws 4 s5 AP 2 attacks

      It's certainly a risk. It's why they are niche. But if you get the charge everything just dies.

      I haven't played a game of Warhammer yet, but marching Foot Knights beside my Men-at-Arms to do a counter-charge was the niche that occurred to me. Encouraging to hear I'm picking up some of the right ideas.

    I think You're concentrating to much on defense with them. I would use them rather as a shock troop. You have enough horse knights units to ensure You will be the charging side and those guys with 2h weapons charging as a support can breakthrough. IMO thats why they have furious charge. Infantry is not always about absorbing charges ;)

      @@janehrahan5116 Overall? They're definitely the worst performing unit type and for sure the most common. They're anvils, screens, tarpits, or in the case of Black Orcs quell impetuosity. The units that are meant to be hammers are overshadowed by better options.

    Probably the most useless unit in the army. They are just to slow to keep up with the rest. If you want to play infantry, play empire.
    They look cool though and give a lot of bits for cheap questing knights.
    I would probably only field them if i play a super themed army. like a last stand army. All horses have been slain by the enemy and the last surviving knights regrouped with the last still standing peasants and forced to fight on foot for their final stand. And just pray to the lady for support.
