I purchased the digital version of Avatar The Way of Water Collector's Edition on the Microsoft Store.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water follows the journey of Jake Sully and Neytiri's newfound family. Despite their best efforts to keep their family together, a familiar threat resurfaces and forces Jake, Neytiri, and their four children to flee to the land of the Metkayina clan.

I wish they kept this. I love this scene, because even though Neytiri is Na’vi and knows about bonds, it shows that her mindset is limited and closed off. She may know about tsaheylu and Na’vi culture, but she only knows so much and is treating eveything like a one size fits all. Ilu is not ikran but she is treated it as such because she doesn’t want to change.

To be honest is a bit satisfying het getting a taste of her own medicine. Every character needs that in my humble opinion
@@katerinaaqu I think she is also closed off because she was forced to leave her clan. Had this been her choice and or a decision she was okay with, she would be much more open minded to learning about adapting to a different clan culture. Plus I think the scene is great because it shows that not every tsaheylu is the same. Different spiritual and physical/psychological bonds require different techniques.
It is possible but i think that either way Neytiri was not fond of change. Call ot coping mechanism or something but not everyone is fond of change or easily adaptable
What is more Neytiri was used at being good at what she does or being praised (see comic how she was praised as a kid for jumping off a tree) so now her being the pupil is humiliation to her. Again not all people are capable of accepting being taught by someone especially someone they dislike etc.
I agree with that last one of course it is interesting although even in here they should elaborate given that Neytiri rode like three different animals with no problem so either there is a difference only with sea creatures or she is loaing concentration because she is not breathing and she doesn't open her mind at it because she can both fly and ride two land animals with no problem @AMWZPN
In the movies guide book it’s say she is very resistant to change to the point that they are literally in war and she’s mad that Jake, the other avatars and the other members of the resistance are using metal weapons which caused many fights between her and Jake. Even her mother the spiritual leader of her clan approves of the change because a) she knows it’s for the sake of the people and b) their is cleansing rituals for the Na’vi if they ever have to resort to such measures that was touched on a bit in the comics. That even Neytiri underwent in the comics.

To me Ronal isn’t teaching, she’s commanding.
She isn’t taking Neytiri’s physical differences or mental state into consideration.
But their both headstrong and very opinionated warrior women and I’m a biased and empathetic Neytiri lover so my “argument” probably won’t hold water.
I wish we had more scenes of Neytiri.. We really didn't see much of her and her growth..

She will be seen more in the next movie, probably. This movie is a movie to set up the rest of the series.
I had heard about this scene last year, and am so glad to finally see it. It only further solidifies the fact that Neytiri has a very difficult time integrating with Metkayina clan, unlike her family. She is a jungle cat through and through. Jake and the children are much better at integrating, either because they are young in the case of the children, or highly adaptable in the case of Jake. But Neytiri has only known the jungle her entire life. She only knows Omatikaya ways. She is at a greater disadvantage than the rest of her family because of this. I really love this distinction in Neytiri's character. It makes the whole movie so much more believable when little personalty traits like this are thought-out and honored.
True , also aonung and loak’s frienship seems forced it feels like after everything that happened they just hung out like it’s fine .
@@magivenderstudios I don't know if I would call Loak and Aonung's relationship a real friendship - at least not yet. Maybe in later films.

Is it just me, or does Cameron have a habit of cutting out character building moments like this, while keeping pretty but useless panorama shots in?

Yep. I personally think we could've gotten a very deeper movie with better character arcs if only we got less screen time dedicated to unnecessary scenes.
I totally feel for this, but those scenery moments are important too, especially considering this movie is already 3 hours. It gives an audience a moment to breathe and process everything that's happening.
Edit; Think of the rising action and falling action of a story like a rollercoaster. There's going to be long, flat portions of track that you might not care for, but are just part of the ride.
@@AradiaAries I don't disagree. I just don't see why these character moments had to go, while the panorama shots could stay. In a movie that's over 3 hours long 10 to 15 minute more don't make so much of a difference. Plus, those are for the most part quiet and calm scenes too, so they fulfill the same purpose of giving the audience a breather.

Literally this was like 30 seconds of footage, why did they not just keep this in. This is so important for Neytiri's storyline. I feel like they just cut everything she was in for no reason wth
It's how editing works. Little here, little there and it adds up. I'm guessing there was at least 5 hours of footage since the movie was over 3 hours long.

The reason is Disney mandated it to be short as possible
The raw material maybe 5 hour, while the directors cut 3,5 hour,
Then this woke studio interfering to be 2 hours, but film maker fights for it, 3 hours is compromised of it

I can't share the sentiment cause I found the second movie too long and vapid, but if cameron is really going to do a trilogy, you're going to get your 10h movie in 3 parts, and counting the first avatar even 12

Neytiri getting some taste of her own medicine (she was also like this as a teacher) is somehow satisfying and funny
I think every character should have moments like this to be honest! Let's them explore so much hahahaa 😂
For example here we see how stiff to change Neytiri is. Not everyone is made to adapt or even if they do adapt they do not adapt the same way and Neytiri definitely is not into the idea just yet
I did notice that Neytiri did seem to have trouble adapting to a semi-aquatic way of life, unlike Jake and the children who over the course of the film slowly learned to move through the sea and bond with the creatures that dwell within it. I guess because Neytiri was born of the forest and is full Omaticaya, unlike her children who are part Navi and part Avatar.
Don't forget half breeds
I really would have loved to see more Neytiri putting in the effort to adapt just as Jake and the kids. Though I always keep in mind that some scenes would be great call back or flashback scenes for the next installment and it was such a fleeting scene so I’m not that cut up over it being cut. still, it was a great scene, and it fit perfectly within the learning montage of the family.
Meanwhile Kiri is just vibing underwater :)

Despite cutting out all these scenes the movie is still more than 3 hrs with 2/3rds of movie showing what the kids are learning and not the adults.
I understand why the cut scenes were cut for the most part, even though they were all interesting. However I feel like having at least one quick scene of Neytiri learning the Metkayina ways was really lacking from the movie and they should have kept one, cause it really made it seem like she didn't try to integrate at all. Heck, she was barely in the movie.
Neytiri felt underdeveloped in this movie. More like an action figure and little else.

Without this scene its like she never did any of the things to learn their culture like diving
hardly had saw Neytiri or jake most of the movie until the end basically 😢 and confirmed we'll see less of them in avatar 3

Kiri looks like mary sue to me like she can really breath underwater with no minimal effort i feel like the flora species should be her rival and fauna species should be her ally .

Neytiri had so many scenes in this movie I wish they kept more scenes like this.
I like this, it’s interesting seeing her struggle with learning after being in a mentor position.
My only guess of why they cut it was because (and correct me if I’m wrong) outside of the whale scene with Neytiri riding on the back of one with Jake, we don’t see Neytiri ride an Ilu. In the final battle she IS flying. But I understand why fans wanted to keep this scene.

Felt like this was a great clip that should've been added. I felt like she's too perfect at everything she does. This would've shown that she can struggle at some things.
I'm actually hoping that Neytiri gets more righteous sense smacked into her. Seeing how wrong she was toward Spider.

I feel like they did neytiri dirty this movie. I felt like she was delegated to a background character, only there because the kids needed a mom and Jake needed a wife. She had no actual storyline like Jake an the kids. You can tell that there was limited gender diversity in the writing room and that James Cameron let his own biases affect the film

That may become playing a big role, but Neytiri is also just stubborn and not taking it slow, if it’s one thing I’ve been taught is as you get older it’s hard to learn more because you feel like you already know so much v.s being a kid your willing to Learn and want to explore, so really it’s just Neytiri just being impatient and wanting to learn fast, she also is used to going fast because of her ikran

Are you talking about when Jake came up out of the water? That scene IS in the theatrical cut. And he's not holding up his empty hand for no reason. He's looking at the gigantic rope burn he gave himself by not securing himself properly to the skimwing. It stings like hell.
