It wouldn’t be a James Cameron movie without sprinkles of juvenile humor and goofiness. Even after all these years he’s somehow managed to avoid falling into overly self-serious pretentiousness and I love him for it.

@@davidegaruti2582 To be fair the plot has some glaring issues, but the emotional beats and the personal themes of a family that's also a mini community (fortress family), the struggle of letting military habits/mindsets go in personal situations (Jake with raising es kids), Identity and self-perception issues (Recon Quaritch) Loss of way of life, grief (Neytiri), and just the realistic way that the character interact. Letting things be funny. The plot could have been more rounded but the moments make up for it.

But the narrative thread running through Lo'ak and Neteyam's relationship with each other and Jake is the want to prove themselves capable warriors and earn his respect the only way they think they can. Getting themselves into dangerous situations in the process. If Neteyam said no, Lo'ak would have resented him for "abandoning" Spider, but they would both be alive. It was completely down to Neteyam whether they went in or not even though Lo'ak was the one that brought it up. "I'm a warrior like you, I'm supposed to fight." Was Neteyam's undoing.
@@Faliathmm, i see where you’re coming from but i definitely disagree. i think it came down to jake constantly telling neteyam to keep an eye on his brother; it was his undoing. we saw multiple times throughout the movie that lo’ak is going to do what lo’ak wants to do; regardless of what anyone else thinks. neteyam ended up in bad situations because he was constantly trying (and failing) to wrangle his brother. the attack on the train, the fight with the metkayina boys, the rush to help payakan and then spider’s rescue. the common denominator was always lo’ak with the well intentioned neteyam getting caught up trying to help. he wouldn’t have listened if neteyam said no and you know it. it was ultimately jake constantly putting the responsibility of his younger brother on him that got him killed.
James Cameron sure knew how to make these character come to life - by simply letting them be be goofy relatable kids and teenagers. And I cannot emphasize enough how remarkable Sigourney Weaver’s performance was. Also, major props to the other kids for welcoming her into the group and accepting her as one of the gang despite the age difference.
