Hello college kids. This is the music we listened and saw live. Guitars, bass, drums, maybe piano, some horns and amazing talent. I may be old, but I saw all the cool bands. This is called Rock n Roll.
Southern Rock and Roll. I remember them playing Tampa back in '72 and they didn't stop for 4 1/2 almost 5 hours. Drum solo was 50 mins of just a$$ kicking battle of the skins. The band went back stage to snort some lines and drink a beer. Acid was FINE and the ride home in my Formula S Barracuda was exceptionally a Blast.
I saw the Allman Brothers babd in Chicago in the early 70s. One if the best concerts I ever went to. They were completely in the "zone" and wouldn't stop playing. I don't know how many encores they played, but the venue finally literally had to pull the breakers on the electricity because they wouldn't stop. I probably paid ten dollars for the ticket, tops. Those were the days...
Now look at those (mostly their parents) who pay thousands to see someone who can barely keep time and writes for 13 yr old girls who make her a billionaire. Hard to believe.
And at least they left us so many great bands that sprung up in their ashes. The great music was literally in their DNA, just listen to their offspring.
Dicky was the best. Better than Duane. Betts was always playing in the background. I’m one who always thought the boy could compete with anyone. ANYONE! Upon Duane’s untimely death, they had no choice but to bring Dicky to the front! Clapton will always be my musical god, but Dicky always had it!! ❤
I was only 12 years old when my mom bought me the Woodstock album. I went to Watkins Glen to see the Band, Allmans and of course the Dead. No worries. What’s 600k people in a space that only sold 80k tickets?!!!😹❤️
I am 74 years old, and the 60s were the days Iived for this was the time of the Vietnam War I am a Navy veteran and this music keep my spirit going in a time time of evil and that carries over to this day and age as well!!! RIP Dickey B. Love your music and style.

Dicky Betts, an unsung guitar master in rock and roll history. Anyone who ignores Dicky as one of the greatest of all time needs to visit a very good specialist and have their head examined. What a freaking player, and incredible human being to boot.
+ASurvivor1 He's not unsung; you're right about that... to a certain extent at least. In my opinion, he should be talked about in the same breath as Duane, Jimmi, Clapton, Stevie Ray, etc etc, and unfortunately, that's not the case.
From Dickey and Duane to Dickey and Warren and then Warren and Derrick with a little Jack Pearson thrown in the middle. How many great guitarists can you have be part of one band. INCREDIBLE!

So Duane is rightfully revered forever more, however it sometimes ignores the fact that Dickey could also tear it up like nobody's business! Go Cochise!
Dwayne was mostly remembered for his was of playing the slide , guitar masters even say he waz the best to date and he died at I think early 20s and it waz 50 years ago almost, dickie is a beast on the guitar for real brother !!
All ABB fans know that . I'm tired of reading comments that Dickey is underrated . He's not . Anyone who listens to this band know Dickey was one of the GOAT guitarists ever .
Definitely one of my favorite ABB songs. Dickie's solo riffs at the beginning of it are unbelievable. Talk about a blues guitarist and a rocker. He is phenomenal.

Who starts a song with a solo? Dickey Betts, brother and kicks ass like no other!!! I freakin love this!! And Warren’s solo is pretty incredible too. Dickeys lick at 5.16 is awesome. Superb performance!! Dickey’s on fire. Such a powerful presence!! I bet I’ve watched this a hundred times and just can’t get enough!!!
The Allman Brothers are at the top of the heap. Most bands that would loose a talent like Duane would have folded but these boys with Dickie and Greg are still one of the best of all times! RIP Gregg, RIP Duane, Rock on Dickie!!
I was lucky to see them in early 1994. They came to our hotel where I worked as security. I told my boss I WAS working that night. So I got to see them and get paid. I met Butch Trucks after the show. Nice guy.

@@biancakaye2721 I saw them many times. In Macon and at the Fox in Atlanta with Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 70's. they always did a great live show. Imagine paying less than $8.00 to see them live at the same show. Still have the concert T shirt I bought and the ticket stub. Play it pretty for Atlanta. Some of Ronnie's most famous words. He never talked much during thier shows but those were iconic words he spoke.
I was fortunate enough to watch them in early 70 in Memphis at the Shell in Overton Park for weekends all summer . all of them were alive. best jam band ever .
I am so lucky to have had such great music and bands when i was growing up...today's music is nothing like the bands of the 1970's....just plain & simple Kick Ass Rock & Roll...
I watched them play every weekend at The Shell in Overton Park in Memphis TN back in the early 70's. Can't beat this band. I been to many concerts back in my day, that's what ya did. #1 all the way.
I love the way they all stepped out and took solos like a classic jazz band. Then tied it all back together with a seamless sound that carried you to parts unknown. Man I feel so lucky to have heard them numerous times!
Dicky Betts is the most underrated guitar player ever. Only Dicky could pick up a slide and learn Duane's parts in short time and do a damn good job at it and still cover his own parts. And he did this for quite a while too. ABB had two all time greats at guitar.
Cheeze is crust! THAT is one of the best renditions, of one of the best numbers, performed by easily one of the best collection of musicians, ever to grace our planet with their all-too painfully short place in time on Mother Earth!
not enough people givin warren the love he deserves here, awesome mix of slide and fretting on this track. this showcases some of the last good "dickey era" of allman.
Love Warren Hanes and Gov’t Muel. He makes the Allman Bros. sound like they did when Duane was alive. I’m 67 now; was 15 for my first Allman Bros show at Fillmore West in SF. Ticket was about $4.00 or less and we got a poster of upcoming shows.
This band...will always hold a special corner in my heart. Cut my teeth on these guys,"beginnings" to be exact,saw them multiple times as a youth. Part of my life daily for the majority of my existence. The reason I started playing music myself. True legends if ever was a thing. Just cant say enough good things about this band. Maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic but I really love this band.
I've been a Southern Rock junkie all my 58 years. Started with Skynyrd, Allman brothers, Marshall Tucker band, and so on. Today's music has not much talent involved... OLD GUYS RULE!!!

James Arness of GUNSMOKE was my father's best friend and after US Army we'd visit the TV sets. I remember when his daughter committed suicide after break up with Gregg. I attended Santa Monica High school and Pacific Palisades Malibu. Knew many great players 'up and coming'. We'd sneak in to WHISKEY-A-GO-GO on Sunset BLvd. at age 15. Crazy Hippies......stay cool dude
Always been an original ABros. fan. I was born in '69 so viva the originals. However, Warren and company have become a great carry of this tradition. True American!!
This is killer. One Way Out has been a favorite of mine forever. Betts is totally on top of this. Great drumming break and very well shot and directed video. Bravo.
first time I saw these kick-ass fukers was 1969 or 70, In Raleigh, NC @ the Memorial Auditorium. barely had heard of them, but when I poured what was left of me out the door ... a convert for life! THE BEST SOUTHERN ROCK EVER!
I took my daughter a few years ago to see the Allmans at Peachfest . I was 54 or so , her , 30 I think. At the first notes of "Please Call Home" her face was a stream of tears . This music is a soundtrack really of our lives over the past 40 + years . Never miss a chance to see your favorites. It may not be there tomorrow.
ABB - representing everything that's good in the deep South. Greg's whiskey/southern slang voice, awesome drumming, solid base. Oh yeah - and undoubtedly the best electric duo to ever grace the stage. What a performance....what a band!
Saw moody blues all the acid heads. Sitting nobody in the stand or out of there seats. Great night. Next night saw the original Allman brothers. Place was jammed. Couldn't get near the stage. The crowd were mostly bikers and freaks. I couldn't believe that we're that many different people in Chicago. Glory days.

Well, at least I know I eel strongly and my tastes have not changed. Music was a little phony or a while, it is getting better...but they are a long , long time away om getting a new band like the Allman Brothers. What a story. wow..this is the music I was raised and cut my teeth on. I wish Dickie the best. I would like to just go say hello to him some time and thank him for the music. He is aging and suffering memory loss. Can't stop the hands of time. Sadly we all live to die.
This has got to be my favorite version of " One Way Out". I just wish the cameraman knew that when someone is doing a lead guitar solo, you focus the camera on them and do some zooming in on just the guitar. I love watching Dickey play. Damn, he can burn it up !!
Have to say I like the "Live At The Fillmore East" version better! I'm inclined to believe that the audio was better produced comparing the two live recordings! In fact, even though studio albums on vinyl are cleaner recordings, I tend to prefer the raw, purely performed versions of most of the songs on L @ T F E album moreover the later studio versions! Agree with your cameraman observation!
There are multiple camera operators and they typically do what the video director tells them to. If the budget is big enough they will record each camera feed and edit them later.
My Beloved Lil Brother introduced me to almost every kind of music i love. My Brother cud play any musical instrument he picked up including my drum kit i sucked at. Thx Bobby, miss you sooo. And thx for video!!!
Dickey was smoking hot during this time. My favorite iterations of the Allman Brothers are of course the classic original lineup, then this lineup with Warren Haynes and then the last iteration with Wayne and Derek Trucks. Good old Greg was the common denominator throughout.
The Allman Brothers Band are truly brothers in heart, mind and, especially, soul shine. A great energy for us all to learn how to play well with others. 💚

One of my biggest music regrets, that I wasn't able to see the Allman brothers band with Greg and Dickie. Played the heck out of this album though. Dickie Betts is a remarkable guitar player.
@@bwanna23 That's incredible. I had to pay three times to see Betts perform with the ABB. All three shows were on the _Enlightened Rogues_ tour, two in MA and one in RI. He played amazingly well.
I got to see them too -- Fillmore West opening for Buddy Guy and BB King. It was their first appearance on the West Coast, January 1970. They smoked of course. Betts and Allman -- in my opinion, the best guitar duo in rock history.

I saw the band with this line up. Killer concert I was on the 7th row. For the life of me can't remember where. Tampa or St Petersburg. They just jam on it for sometimes 20 minutes or more. I loved the ABB sincec1970. aLL of them. Even named my daughter Melissa. I'm heart broken with all the losses. I'm 65 now still perform many ABB tunes. Ingrained in my entire being. Sorely missed as if I lost a family member. I can't imagine that jam session in Heaven but I'm damn sure looking forward to it. 💓🎸🎵😄🌹🍹💋
If this isn't bad -ass PURE hard-core American Southern Rock and Roll at it's finest, I don't know what is. I love the Allman Bros. Band. I'm 59, went to a few of their concerts over the years

+Dena Henry I also saw Gregg open for SRV in 1990..at the old pier 84 concerts here in NY. Holy crap what a night that was. Gregg was killin it with Dangerous Dan on gtr ..and than Stevie Ray came out and literally opened up the heavens and put on one of my all time fave concerts that I've ever seen. I would put Stevie Ray up there with Duane and Dickey..as easily one of the greatest gtr players ever. My lord I can't even imagine all the music Duane and Stevie Ray had left in them. To me...they're deaths so early...Make up some of the hugest losses to music and humanity that we'll ever know. Life can be so unfair to take these giants when they were so young and had so much left to give/Share!!
Love the commentary, All. Dickey is certainly in my top 10. Anyone need a little more evidence as to his superb talents (writing & playing), take a good listen to live "Southbound" and live "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". Your body and soul will say, "REPEAT, please"!
I'm 60 years old. Betts has always smoked it, Haynes and others aside. Dickey has his own style and sound, and nobody else can replicate it .You always know it's Dickey when you hear him. My hat's off to you, Dickie. I hope one day soon to be able to jam with you. If not in this world, then the next. Dickie WILL be back with ABB before all is said and done, guaranteed.

One of the best bands to see live !!!! When everybody played an instrument,no dancers just jamming through the night!!! What a time for live bands ,highschool dances had bands real musicians!!!!

One Way Out - one of the greatest blues songs ever written. The Brothers version never gets old. One of the best.
One of the few bands were I can put a CD in and leave it on repeat. This music never gets tired to my ears.

Who starts a song with a solo? Dickey Betts, brother and kicks ass like no other!!! I freakin love this!! And Warren’s solo is pretty incredible too. Dickeys lick at 5.16 is awesome. Superb performance!! Dickey’s on fire. Such a powerful presence!! I bet I’ve watched this a hundred times and just can’t get enough!!!

I was lucky to see them in early 1994. They came to our hotel where I worked as security. I told my boss I WAS working that night. So I got to see them and get paid. I met Butch Trucks after the show. Nice guy.

@@biancakaye2721 I saw them many times. In Macon and at the Fox in Atlanta with Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 70's. they always did a great live show. Imagine paying less than $8.00 to see them live at the same show. Still have the concert T shirt I bought and the ticket stub.
Play it pretty for Atlanta. Some of Ronnie's most famous words. He never talked much during thier shows but those were iconic words he spoke.

I watched them play every weekend at The Shell in Overton Park in Memphis TN back in the early 70's. Can't beat this band. I been to many concerts back in my day, that's what ya did. #1 all the way.

How could any sane rational person give this a thumbs down? Their loss.
I love the way they all stepped out and took solos like a classic jazz band. Then tied it all back together with a seamless sound that carried you to parts unknown. Man I feel so lucky to have heard them numerous times!

Dicky Betts is the most underrated guitar player ever. Only Dicky could pick up a slide and learn Duane's parts in short time and do a damn good job at it and still cover his own parts. And he did this for quite a while too. ABB had two all time greats at guitar.

Watching Dicky play gave me flash backs of watching my dad play guitar when I was a kid. All those facial expressions..
Dickey Betts....one of the best ever! Great tone, great timing, great ear.....and doing these types of jams before just about anyone else!
not enough people givin warren the love he deserves here, awesome mix of slide and fretting on this track. this showcases some of the last good "dickey era" of allman.
Love Warren Hanes and Gov’t Muel. He makes the Allman Bros. sound like they did when Duane was alive. I’m 67 now; was 15 for my first Allman Bros show at Fillmore West in SF. Ticket was about $4.00 or less and we got a poster of upcoming shows.

This band...will always hold a special corner in my heart. Cut my teeth on these guys,"beginnings" to be exact,saw them multiple times as a youth. Part of my life daily for the majority of my existence. The reason I started playing music myself. True legends if ever was a thing. Just cant say enough good things about this band. Maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic but I really love this band.

James Arness of GUNSMOKE was my father's best friend and after US Army we'd visit the TV sets. I remember when his daughter committed suicide after break up with Gregg. I attended Santa Monica High school and Pacific Palisades Malibu. Knew many great players 'up and coming'. We'd sneak in to WHISKEY-A-GO-GO on Sunset BLvd. at age 15. Crazy Hippies......stay cool dude

first time I saw these kick-ass fukers was 1969 or 70, In Raleigh, NC @ the Memorial Auditorium. barely had heard of them, but when I poured what was left of me out the door ... a convert for life! THE BEST SOUTHERN ROCK EVER!
I took my daughter a few years ago to see the Allmans at Peachfest . I was 54 or so , her , 30 I think. At the first notes of "Please Call Home" her face was a stream of tears . This music is a soundtrack really of our lives over the past 40 + years . Never miss a chance to see your favorites. It may not be there tomorrow.

Next night saw the original Allman brothers. Place was jammed. Couldn't get near the stage. The crowd were mostly bikers and freaks. I couldn't believe that we're that many different people in Chicago. Glory days.

Jeez. I must be getting old. I was going to remark about the remarkable drumming...but I see I have been here before...twice. Pretty much same comment. Well, at least I know I eel strongly and my tastes have not changed. Music was a little phony or a while, it is getting better...but they are a long , long time away om getting a new band like the Allman Brothers. What a story. What talent' What MUSIC OR THE SOUL!!!God Bless every single human up there and everyone who migrated to this foot stomping classic. Wow! Still fresh.

wow..this is the music I was raised and cut my teeth on. I wish Dickie the best. I would like to just go say hello to him some time and thank him for the music. He is aging and suffering memory loss. Can't stop the hands of time. Sadly we all live to die.

This has got to be my favorite version of " One Way Out". I just wish the cameraman knew that when someone is doing a lead guitar solo, you focus the camera on them and do some zooming in on just the guitar. I love watching Dickey play. Damn, he can burn it up !!
Have to say I like the "Live At The Fillmore East" version better! I'm inclined to believe that the audio was better produced comparing the two live recordings! In fact, even though studio albums on vinyl are cleaner recordings, I tend to prefer the raw, purely performed versions of most of the songs on L @ T F E album moreover the later studio versions! Agree with your cameraman observation!
There are multiple camera operators and they typically do what the video director tells them to. If the budget is big enough they will record each camera feed and edit them later.

Dickey was smoking hot during this time. My favorite iterations of the Allman Brothers are of course the classic original lineup, then this lineup with Warren Haynes and then the last iteration with Wayne and Derek Trucks. Good old Greg was the common denominator throughout.

@@bwanna23 That's incredible. I had to pay three times to see Betts perform with the ABB. All three shows were on the _Enlightened Rogues_ tour, two in MA and one in RI. He played amazingly well.
And to think they had Dickie AND Duane in one band at the same time! Both in the top tier of rock guitarists.
I got to see them too -- Fillmore West opening for Buddy Guy and BB King. It was their first appearance on the West Coast, January 1970. They smoked of course. Betts and Allman -- in my opinion, the best guitar duo in rock history.

I saw the band with this line up. Killer concert I was on the 7th row. For the life of me can't remember where. Tampa or St Petersburg. They just jam on it for sometimes 20 minutes or more. I loved the ABB sincec1970. aLL of them. Even named my daughter Melissa. I'm heart broken with all the losses. I'm 65 now still perform many ABB tunes. Ingrained in my entire being. Sorely missed as if I lost a family member. I can't imagine that jam session in Heaven but I'm damn sure looking forward to it. 💓🎸🎵😄🌹🍹💋

I would put Stevie Ray up there with Duane and Dickey..as easily one of the greatest gtr players ever. My lord I can't even imagine all the music Duane and Stevie Ray had left in them. To me...they're deaths so early...Make up some of the hugest losses to music and humanity that we'll ever know. Life can be so unfair to take these giants when they were so young and had so much left to give/Share!!

I'm 60 years old. Betts has always smoked it, Haynes and others aside. Dickey has his own style and sound, and nobody else can replicate it .You always know it's Dickey when you hear him. My hat's off to you, Dickie. I hope one day soon to be able to jam with you. If not in this world, then the next.
