Southern Rock and Roll. I remember them playing Tampa back in '72 and they didn't stop for 4 1/2 almost 5 hours. Drum solo was 50 mins of just a$$ kicking battle of the skins. The band went back stage to snort some lines and drink a beer. Acid was FINE and the ride home in my Formula S Barracuda was exceptionally a Blast.

Have to agree wholeheartedly! I'm working on 76, USNR, and was aboard the USS Sealion, sub, Key West just having fetched some coffee in the galley, went thru the con and as I stepped into the Fwd Troop Compartment ( no torpedo rooms ) Crimson and Clover began to play on the boat's Subic Bay acquired stereo system, eat up with reverb, inside a steel hull...Ill never forget that moment in time, so long ago.
The greatest music to ever evolve, and the band's that brought it to the fore'... so many remained forever young that were of that era. So many that succumbed later over the years...God Speed Brothers and Sisters who endured so much.
Salute, and thanks to those that created the music that fueled our youth...We were the offspring of America's Greatest Generation. We were going to change the world, but the world changed us.
      Salute Sir...Carry On.

Detroit so loved the Allman Brothers Blues band. They came into town, Eastown Theatre, and came back a dozen times through-out that era. Pine Knob, Chrisler Arena, whereever..........and simply put standing crowds, back in their seats...............no joke rock band from an era where they thrived on the audience, not the Billboard rating...........and drank in the parking lot with anybody who was drinking....

Dicky Betts is the most underrated guitar player ever. Only Dicky could pick up a slide and learn Duane's parts in short time and do a damn good job at it and still cover his own parts. And he did this for quite a while too. ABB had two all time greats at guitar.

One of my biggest music regrets, that I wasn't able to see the Allman brothers band with Greg and Dickie. Played the heck out of this album though. Dickie Betts is a remarkable guitar player.

Dickey was smoking hot during this time. My favorite iterations of the Allman Brothers are of course the classic original lineup, then this lineup with Warren Haynes and then the last iteration with Wayne and Derek Trucks. Good old Greg was the common denominator throughout.

@@bwanna23 That's incredible. I had to pay three times to see Betts perform with the ABB. All three shows were on the _Enlightened Rogues_ tour, two in MA and one in RI. He played amazingly well.

The Allman Brothers used to play every Friday night on the UT Strip at Friday's Child in knoxville TN way back in the 70s & 80s. Man I cherish those days.. totally awesome! Best southern rock 'n roll band ever! RIP brother Gregg.

used to call the radio station, tell em to play 'Statesboro blues" WAyyyyyy back in 70's when they would actually do that for ya, and give us a shout out by name sometimes lol.

Nowadays, most radio stations are owned by huge corporate conglomerates. They may have a single programing director, who sets a play list for all of their stations across the country. Finding great music today is like listening to the main stream news media. All you get is a bunch of BS.

Sigh you speak of a bygone America of my youth when kids could safely ride their bikes all day around town. I used to call my Philly hometown station 93 WMMR for the stones and allmans all the time and they would actually play it if you got through.

I took my daughter a few years ago to see the Allmans at Peachfest . I was 54 or so , her , 30 I think. At the first notes of "Please Call Home" her face was a stream of tears . This music is a soundtrack really of our lives over the past 40 + years . Never miss a chance to see your favorites. It may not be there tomorrow.
