Yeah a title to draw in Robin Trower fans. It’s amazing when you hear the rundown of how much music he’s released in addition to all his touring. Bridge of Sighs turns 50 this year. Hope there’s a great reissue even better than the one for Twice Removed from Yesterday. It still sounds fresh after all these years. He doesn’t need a little bit of sympathy. It still the day of the eagle!
The Hendrix comparisons got old decades ago. Robin counts Jimi as an influence as do countless other guitarists but he has his own style, which even a cursory listen to his music will prove. He is a living legend & deserves the respect of his peers & blues fans everywhere.
I get tired of all the Hendrix references, especially regarding contemporary guitarists. I’m pretty sure they were all busy doing their own thing instead of thinking, hey, let’s copy Hendrix! 😂
I mean, it's not like Robin Trower disappeared into seclusion. "What happened to Robin Trower" is pretty accessible to anyone interested. He's been playing gig and doing interviews.
Robim Trower is in my top 3 guitarist of all time. He is still fantastic at every show, and I never miss his shows when he comes to Cleveland, Ohio. The man is the best blues rock musician ever. I have every album he has ever done and waiting for the next one. Duh.
Nothing happened to Robin. For an elderly man, his guitar works really good, his effects are like lava, he plays brilliantly, and has written some of the best guitar rock songs of his generation. Dumb question.
You failed to mention that Robin vanished off the music scene in the late 70s because he found himself penniless and in bankruptcy. This was due to his manager swindling him and leaving him with the bills to his record label. It took Robin until the mid 80s to dig himself out of all that debt, and get back in the public eye in 1987.
Bridge of Sighs was voted best rock album in 1974. Saw him a little over 20 years ago and...that TONE! After enduring a horrible local opening band he came out, plugged into his all white Marshall stacks and played one chord and it sounded so beautiful. Hearing him live was definitely a much more satisfying than his albums. Although Hendrix was the starting point, Trowers chord changes are very under appreciated.
I met Robin in a pub in England in July 1976, he invited me to be his guest at that year's reading rock festival. He is the nicest guy you'll ever meet.
The real question is why was such a talented artist was apparently blackballed from American radio in the 1970s & 80's? I never even heard of him until the late 1980s. It's a travesty that he got practically no airplay on American radio stations until the 1990's. And even then it was just ' Bridge of Sighs'. The album is one of the best top 20 rock and roll albums ever!!
I saw Trower five times live here in Detroit and every show was great. He had a different band at each show but that didn't really matter because they were all excellent musicians. Always has been one of my favorite guitarists.
Epic music, and I just happened to be listening to 'Too Rolling Stoned' whilst as a stoned passenger cruising over the Verrazano Narrows Bridge around sunset. 1974. Never forgotten.
Nothing happened to him he has released some really good albums the last few years, and he still tours, also the AI narrator in this video is annoying.
Robin has a poetic lyricism to his playing that is difficult if not impossible to duplicate. He has the strongest natural vibrato I've ever seen. You can play his stuff note for note and still not sound like him, his playing is so organic.
This video ends with a mention of a recording in 2023. It does not suggest that anything "happened" to Trower, it merely recaps his career to date for those who don't realize he went on well beyond the height of his popularity in the 70s and 80s. A lot of people might wonder, "Hey, whatever happened to Robin Trower?" The answer is, he has been making music way beyond the time that you stopped listening to him.
Saw him in a small nightclub in about '88 or '89. Had WAY too much volume for that place. Several concert veterans were saying it was the loudest they have known. But it was a killer set. The next morning I had to go to work with a horrible hangover, almost no voice from hollering, and my ears were messed up for three days.
Hate to sound so old school, but go back and listen to Crucifixion Lane from Procol Harum's classic Salty Dog. Not only a rare but incredible Robin vocal on Reid's lyric (a lyric apparently inspired by Reid's childhood experiences of Anti-Semitism), but listen to his guitar work on the outro solo. Biting, tearing, slashing, trembling...just so brilliant to this very day...
yes I noticed he's still recording. But the combination of his losing James Dewar and him not changing his style much kinda made me stick to his first 3 or 4 albums. And I don't know about your area but stores in my area seldom if ever carry CDs released on these tiny little independent labels.@@mikewolverton7904
Trower has released 8 new albums in the last 10 years. He and his band also released 6 albums in the 70's; 5 in the 80's; 3 in the 90's; and 4 in the 00's. Still making great guitar based Blues Rock.

@@Datanditto No. I am not kidding. West had great tone, impeccable vibrato and intelligent note choice. If he was good enough for Randy Rhoads to admire, he was good enough for me. Even though I liked West before I learned that Rhoads was a fan.

The Cliffs Notes version - He was badly managed and also not in love with touring while his kids were growing up so the record company just stopped promoting him. Basically a gradual decline from the peak of Day of The Eagle but he still kept churning albums out on independent labels.
WHY did you leave out VICTEMS OF THE FURY? hhhhhhhmmmm, you need to crank up your stereo, close your eyes and hit play. You will never forget that album if you do.
Always fondly recall my first time seeing Trower in fall of 1977 - tour for "In City Dreams" - at the now demolished "Capital Centre" near D.C. - general admission show - which they usually oversold - so probably 20K+ - the venue held about 18K or so seated - opening act was "Ram Jam" - of "Black Betty" fame - they were not treated so well by some fans eager for Trower to start - this was back before they suspended the PA system above the stage - just a massive wall of cabinets stacked on either side of stage - think my ears are still ringing from that one - in a good way ..
Back in 80s I played bass a bit and my brother had a cheezy band in our basement. A neighbor learned to play pretty good and he learned a bunch of Trower tunes. One day he was over my house and him and I jammed all the Trower tunes he knew. Afterwards my mom asked me if that was me, I said it was ' Ed ' and me. She seemed totally amazed that some real good sounding guitar would come from our basement.

Probably one of the most skillful living guitarists. Bassist James Dewar’s vocals were some of the greatest ever recorded on the early albums.

Bridge of Sighs is one of the top 3 albums of the 70’s. Just incredible.
And one of my all time favourites, loved the combination of him and fellow Scot Jimmy Dewar on bass and vocals.
