Can you answer a couple of questions for me please.
1 What is the rationale behind using multiple different wire diameters for the main conductors?
1a Do you need to evenly space the different diameter wires within the conductor?
2 Why should the heatshrink sleeving not touch the conductors?
3 Why does using Plumbers PTFE tape produce better sound than using PTFE tubing (designed for use in the electronics industry)?
4 Have you tried using a lower shrink temperature sleeving? to save burning the Nylon outer braid. I recently found some that shrinks at 70C which I used on a project at home.
5 What is the characteristic impedence of the cable? and what is it's capacitance? and also it's velocity factor?
    Cheers and beers
    Al

Hi mate, fantastic video, can't wait to give this a go. I take it multiple layers of silver plated wire as opposed to silver filled copper wire doesn't cut it due to the lack of silver or would it come close?
I have witnessed different cables, constructions and materials make a very obvious difference to the sounds presented by speakers. I have 12 gauge pure ofc copper twisted cables, very thick, very nice. They pack a very heavy and boomy bad without any eq. In the other hand, I have a pair of clearway x cables from three cord shop and they produce amazing top end clarity, sounds I cannot even hear with my thick copper cables, but don't pack the same boomy punch. So with the two biwired together, produce a fantastic result.
I can appreciate your cables fully.
    Thank you.

The objective being to have a conductor that does not introduce any change to the signal travelling from amplifier to speaker. Allow the speaker to "hear" exactly what the amplifier is delivering. So for all this effort you want to be sure that your amplifier is producing a high-fidelity signal and that your loud speakers can faithfully transform that electrical signal into sound waves in the air. Hopefully your ears and brain will enjoy the difference. I can hardly wait to build a set for myself.

The grounded metal sheath creates a Faraday cage. It is only necessary to connect it on one side, on the amplifier side, to be operational.
This allows the cables to be isolated from electromagnetic radiation; radio, mobile, wifi, etc.
You should also be aware that audio amplifiers use feedback outputs to reduce their distortion. Part of the signal is reinjected, and the presence of unwanted electromagnetic signals undermines this correction.

What is the capacitance of the cable? Is the cable directional? And how does it measure up against similar priced commercial cables. We need to know this if you claim it to be possibly the best speaker cable in the world. Also what is the diameter of the cable? Will it fit into 4mm banana plugs because you seem very keen to avoid fitting plugs. It's unusual to fit a drain wire to a speaker cable, can you provide the data as to why you have used a drain wire, or are you just hoping people think it's a valid addition.

  • @dab9742

In my humble opinion, and what seems perfectly logical, and unavoidable, is that the best cable in the world can only have the lowest resistance, the lowest inductance, the lowest capacitance all per meter. Moreover, it must have the highest insulation between the two potentials, i.e. the +, and the -
A manufacturer who does not provide these parameters, should not be taken seriously...
Any other explanation or theory should be considered as snake oil !

No, my cables is the best in the world. 😉🤣
Why do you use inferior material when trying to do the "best"?
Sould you not use the best conductors then. Not some wannabe silver conductor that is silver filled copper.. 🤔
Everyone knows and it is proven that pure silver is a better conductor than copper, so it is beyond me why using copper when trying to do world "best". 🤔
Use gage, purity, multi/solid strand and hardness (like dead soft) properties to get the sound you want. Then you have the best of the best. Or at least better..😉
It is not OK to say "I don't like the sound of silver" when only listened to one pair that had suboptimal properties that I mentioned above.
That is not representative for example you can't compare the same gage of two pairs of speaker wire when silver is the better conductor then that have to be accounted for so that the ratio in gauge is adjusted for.
It will not be a easy if done.
The same goes for the white dielectric tape you use closest to the conductor. We know also that air is the best dielectric and cutton is next best dielectric. So useing cutton instead than the PTFE tape that is not the "best" but very good.
There are actually 3mm thick tubing made of cutton and it is to slide on the conductor even in long runs. 😍
Why I am saying that my is better.. we only do one pair and nobody else can exactly reproduce or easily make a exact copy and compare..🤔
Your video is great to get close to that reproduction capability! 👍
It will always be "one of a kind". 😍

Thank you all to confirm that solid silver is the best one to use.👍
When making the best possible cable as a DIY including the effort and time plowed down into the fabrication and research.
Then you save money when doing it by yourself so why not go for the best materials that is possible to get.🤔
Yes I understand that silver is much more costly. But by DIY then it is obtainable to get the best.
Compared to if a well known brand used the same quality level.
It is a cost saving compromise and not a optimization.
Yes, I feel the pain the silver is costly. 😢
My speaker wires were the most expensive "part" when building my own power amplifiers (one for each channel).🎵🎶

@@AmazonasBiotop Silver filled does some serious magic on more vintage speakers and tube pre-amps. Agreed on pure silver but silver filled might sound better on certain systems. The soon the technical part is in the way, you lose lpleasure in listening. I follow my ears , and especially speaker placement(!) . Without proper placement you miss out half of the fun.
I have a great trick for getting a perfect image. Once you're done tweaking positions, turn your back to the sound, and re-tweak the centre image and sides.
Go back and forth until it sounds perfect like that. Then turn around, have some tea and enjoy. You will hear the difference immediately. The end result is super .

There is a lot of Snake oil here as well as nonsense engineering. ei why would you ground one side not the other.

    • @dalesanderson4764
      @dalesanderson4764 Місяць тому

The ground should be static. Zero current flow multiple grounds any where in audio is usually bad (noise ) I AGREE with tweaked man.

      @IsmaelMartinezPR Місяць тому

@@dalesanderson4764 there is no science to back that claim up. You don't need multiple grounds as the mains in most developed countries are connected to ground. If you have noise that you can hear and goes away with a ground, you have a serious problem that a speaker wire is not the solution.

Sorry Genius. The first thing you learn about speaker cables is: NEVER shield a speaker cable! It builds up capacitance that can damage the amplifier AND it kills the high frequencies. Congratulations. NEVER use a shielded cable for speakers with a tube amp. It can destroy the output transformer. Next: learn HOW before you destroy somebody's power amp.

High output so might not be necessary anyway. Twisted or well spaced and well insulated conductors are probably enough.

Theres as much 'snake oil' in this build as most expensive cables! The fact is, most any decent low resistance cable will do. In all honesty, this cable probably offers that, so will sound OK. But you offer no reasoning for using variable diameter strands, nor effectively randomly arranging them together. Capacitance can affect frequency response, but who knows what capacitance these will have without measurement given the repeated / random use of ptfc tape. And why silver plated copper is going to sound any different to copper is not explained. Certainly there'll be no effective measured difference, provided you use a decent gauge cable. You offer little explanation for adding a steel braid to your speaker cable. What do you connect your braid to? While this could feasibly improve the sound in your system it would only be of use if you are laying power cables close to signal cables, or have a very noisy environment (in electrical terms). If you are observing good cable dressing it is wholly unecessary.
What's more, without separately shrink wrapping the two cores of your cable you are relying on the (very thin) ptfc for electrical insulation. Do not flex these too much -any break or tear in the ptfc could lead to a short (with potentially devastating consequences for your amp!).
As for 'stopping electrostatic build up in the cable by putting cotton piping in it'......ermm....well if you say so.
I'm all for diy, but not simply for the sake of it. Van Damme (a manufacturer you use for interconnects in some of your other videos) make some good value speaker cable too. I'd personally stick with those or any decent quality copper cables with sufficient gauge for you amps. Just as good & cheaper still!!
