My part of this project was the electric of the galley and the service bar.

Btw the company that made this train is not german, its swiss.
The interior on this train is incredible. Those domed windows give an almost sci-fi feeling.
The plastic seat shells are discouraging. And the lack of gloves from the cook during the pandemic, when he puts food in the dishes.

@@user-yp6kn2uw4k Gloves are more of a health hazard than clean hands, for all sorts of reasons, one being that people with gloves on actually tend to be less careful about hand hygiene and what they touch than people with bare hands. Gloves won't protect you from an airborne virus anyway.

Love watching you take trips with your dad. My daughter passed 5 years ago, and we took several trips together. I'm 73 so I know how much this must mean to your dad. I travel solo now, not the same, but I take her with me in spirit when I go. God bless you both and thanks for sharing these experiences!

Because of this train vlog ,I’m going to go on the Rocky Mountaineer! What a fabulous train. This will be my first big trip since my husband passed away four years ago. We had a rather comical funny trip on a train from our home in southern California to Chicago where we jumped off and flew back home ! But this, is exceptionally nice ! Thank you.
I think it's really interesting how your dad addresses everyone by name. It really feels like a sign of respect, especially that he took the time and mental energy to ask or observe, AND remember their name.
I love that you travel with your parents. Adult children seem to forget the value of spending time with their parents. It's priceless. Especially adventures like this. It looked like such fun.
In 2008 My husband and I took the Rocky from Banff to Vancouver to catch a cruise ship to Alaska. Tom was very sick but was determined to see Alaska before he died. This rail trip was amazing and being able to relive it with this video was wonderful memories. Thank you for that

I think it’s so respectful using the names of the employees. They’re valuable and appreciated and I think that shows when you do that.
I always wonder if the employees would enjoy that, personally whilst working in customer service, if someone uses my name I would feel uncomfortable. But retail wasn’t a luxurious job, so maybe it’s different for them then for me. Although I get it, and it comes across as being nice and personal and showing more gratitude, would people prefer that detachment, or does it make the job feel easier as it’s not only just a job, it’s personal.

Loved your dads comment about being in the picture. Have lived in Lakewood, Colorado for the better part of 50 years, about 5 miles from the Red Rocks Amphitheater. You used to be able to drive over the hogback, now Dinosaur Ridge, and at the top the entire park would come into view and it was like an amazing postcard. That was our feeling, that we were driving into the postcard. Keep making memories.
I had a smile on my face during that whole outside scene with that little "race" hahaha. Watching you having fun like that is next best thing to experiencing it personally. The chances of me going is very slim, not likely at all, but seeing other people enjoying it makes me just as happy. I could feel your elation. Thank you for sharing this special experience.

my dad was absolutely addicted to trains and we was gonna come from uk to go on this train, sadly he passed away nearly 2 years ago to cancer and watching you and your dad spend time together warmed my heart and i know for a fact he would of loved this❤️

Trains rock💪Mr grandfather spent his whole life as a station manager. He. Fought in WW1 and still came back to the rails. God bless the people that have become before us🙏🙏
We are survivors of the 2018 Camp Fire near Paradise CA. When we heard about the fire in Lytton we really felt for them. It will be years before our community is rebuilt, possibly decades in our little rural community. I pray that Canada is better at supporting disaster survivors than our country is.
I hope they're gonna give you something for making this video - you did what years and years of their ads couldn't do and excite me enough to want to book a trip on this train! Well well done on this video!!

My dad passed almost 6 years ago and seeing stories like this bring back so many memories. He was always my traveling companion. My "plus one". He and I did things together that no one else in my life would do, like going to the opera or the symphony.
You're very smart to realize time is fleeting and you should seize every moment possible with those you love.

When my parents and I immigrated from Taiwan to Canada in 1992, I accompanied them on the VIA train from Vancouver to Toronto in 1996. We took the sleeper class. The three-day and three-night journey made us unforgettable, and the beautiful scenery along the way. The delicious food is constantly being served and then I have the opportunity to listen to my father's experience of fighting the Japanese in China during the world war ll. Such a thrilling experience was very peculiar through him. Then I knew how he survived. This video reminds me of my father. Although he passed away in 2010, l still miss him so much. Thank you Mike for providing such a beautiful video.

We live in a time where everything is about speed. How to get from A to B in the quickest, shortest way possible. Which is very sad.
This train trip looks amazing, i really wish there was a lot more like this in the world. It's like a cruiseship on land, a place where you get to experience all sorts of amazing views and even get to talk to new people.
We need more of this sort of thing in the world.
in Europe many travel by train and life is not a rush, and our air is cleaner

50 years ago my friend and I went out west from Moncton NB to Banff. The most amazing trip I wish I could do it again. You are so blessed to share that with your dad is priceless.

Had to stop the video for a while after you passed through Lynton.....As an Australian, destroyed towns are something Ive seen far too often in my 53 years, for us the risk of bush fire is a normal part of our summers as is extreme heat......but my heart breaks for people who had such little warning and so little foreknowledge of what extreme temperatures can do. Im so very glad that most of the town managed to evacuate, as long as those you love are by your side, you can survive anything. I hope this beautiful little town rebuilds as so many little Aussie towns have over the years. May they come back stronger and more resilient and more in love with the gorgeous location that they are privileged to call home. As always Mike, your videos manage to take your viewers to the heart, not just the fun stuff but also the more serious side of life but all with grace and humour.
For us in California, yhe most recent was the Paradise fire.
Unfortunately Lytton was also affected by recent flooding, as was a large portion of BC.

Gosh... What an absolutely wonderful train experience... It looks phenomenal! But, as highlighted, the fact you are doing this with your dad... Absolutely love this. I lost my dad just over 2 years ago, and if I am honest, I may have cried once or twice through this, seeing the beautiful relationship you have with your dad, and wishing I could have just one more day with mine. So much I wanted to do with him, things just like this, but never got the time when he retired. Make the absolute most of time with family, just like this video. Thank you ❤️

For those who aren't local, there was massive flooding near Vancouver which washed out tracks on all rail lines. I believe they were scheduled to re-open today.

We did this iconic train trip with my sister and brother in law ten years ago for our 40th wedding anniversary! They gifted us with an unforgettable experience! The service and especially the meals and snacks were top notch! They served us on the day of our anniversary the most delicious wine I have ever tasted! Your vlog brought back so many wonderful memories of that special time in our lives! Thank you!

I worked for Amtrak 9+ years. I loved train travel and took advantage quite often. I have always wanted to go on the Rocky Mountaineer. I haven’t had the chance yet, but I am not giving up on it! Happy Birthday to your dad! You are so blessed to still have him. This video rated Excellent!

When I did the Tranz Alpine New Zealand's best rail journey with its outdoor deck, I saw for myself how being on a train with the great outdoors all around you is the best experience ever. I honestly think that everyone's first pick would be a train; if every train came with them, there is no better way to take good photos and take in the sights than open-air carriages.
I love seeing a UA-camr with their dad, and really spoiling them. That's a wonderful relationship. Bless your dad's heart. Also amazing transition between 22:30 and going into the pool. Fantastic editing.

The moment when you find it odd that someone asks the question "when did you take a train for the first time in your life" as if it's something like flying, that's when you realize how cool it is to live in a country where travelling by rail is such a trivial everyday thing...
I appreciate your comment. Not counting NYC & Boston (!) subways, I can count on one hand the times I have travelled by rail. Therefore, I recall parts of all of those trips: before our son was born, we travelled extensively by private train cars with a theatrical production throughout Scandinavia; 2 more trips with my son; and, 1 with him & his granddad. Because it was out of the ordinary for me, I recall rail travel in Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, London, the Netherlands, Paris, and, Munich - and, bicycles!
There are very limited rail systems where I live now. I have no doubt the automobile industry discouraged the development of extensive rail service in the States. Someday, I think I’d like a rail trip through Bavaria & the Swiss Alps, and, on what’s left of The Orient Express.
That's so true. I take the train to work every morning and on the weekends I oftentimes do longer trips by train to visit family and friends. Of course those trips are way less nice, but it's just normal to take the train
Growing up in Florida, it's certainly a different experience when trains become so readily available. When I worked in Baltimore, I remember getting off of work early on 4th of July and just casually hopped on a train within an hour to go celebrate in Washington DC.

The train race was exhilarating! In fact this whole trip is. Interesting to see a modern luxury train when many are done up in a past era. Day trip only with hotels at night is a brilliant idea.
On the train race that was CN pulling a unit set going back to a G3 grain terminal in the prairies.
The Train started the fire in Lynton
A wheel on a car was stuck and fire was shooting from it as the Train went though the town

We did this part of the Rocky Mountaineer back in 2017, and thought it was just BRILLIANT, loved it ! Brings back fond memories of Canada and Alaska.

What an awesome trip with your dad. I'm in my 70's. My mom grew up in a Ukrainian town, Wostek Alberta. Her family moved to Vancouver, After the war, she met my father an American. They married & lived in St Louis Mo. My father was an Inspector for the Pullman Co which was the sleeping car company. Every summer, my mom, brother & I traveled to Edmonton, Alberta where my grandparents lived. From St Louis we went to Chicago, then Minneapolis/St Paul. then to Winnipeg where we boarded the CN. We traveled across Canada to Edmonton. I loved it. This trip on the Rocky Mountaineer is amazing & brought back a lot of memories. Much more luxurious than the CN in the 50's & 60's.
What an amazing father-son trip. This is on our bucket list. We've driven through Jasper and Banff but want to do this train! It looks so comfortable and the views from the dome....WOW! I love the outdoor area. Your dad is adorable. Loved this.

My mom made the trip back in 1959 when she lived in Vancouver for a year, working as a nurse. When we were in Banff in 1996, still the band was playing on the station and it brought tears to her eyes to see that after all those years. Can't wait to experience it for myself some day.

I’m thankful I took a Via Rail trip from Vancouver to Montreal back in 1978. It was a school trip. Very exciting to see the incredible geography of our country. Of course we did the whole thing in coach class and slept in our seats but we did get to enjoy the dining experience. I doubt we’ll ever do the Rocky Mountaineer though. Back in its very early days, my husband, at different times, was both the conductor and engineer. They used to deliver beautiful meals to the train crew, they could choose anything on the menu and it was delivered and presented as if they were guests. As he’s still an engineer nearing retirement, the last thing he wants to do is go on any kind of train holiday! I’m thrilled that you and your Dad got to truly enjoy this incredible experience together.
your comment, particuarly the part about your husband being an employee and still being treated like a guest, made me think starkly about how differently industries will treat their essential components (the people doing the work). I'm very happy to hear he was treated with respect.
@@EdwardMcClung the Rocky has its own engineers and conductors now but that wasn’t always the case. Depending on where the crew change happened it would’ve been either CP or CN employees. They definitely treated them very, very well and it was very much appreciated. Now the Rocky has their own train crews who are very likely retired (55+) with years of experience. They’re usually very professional, excellent at their craft and ultimately endeavour to give the smoothest, safest trip on the rails so everyone enjoys themselves. And I’m sure that the crew attending the passengers is equally professional and skilled in the highest quality of customer service. The scenery is magnificent and you’ll see things that the vast majority of people will never see. The wildlife is spectacular, untamed and in their natural environment. I don’t think you’d be unhappy if you took this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I live in Abbotsford and have driven the Fraser Canyon countless times on my way up to 100 Mile House. I so enjoy the Thompson River portion of the trip. I've heard about the Rocky Mountaineer, but never guessed it is as great an experience as you show that it is. I'm so looking forward to Part 2! Wonderful edition!

I never had the chance with my own Dad, life got too busy, then his dimentia got worse and worse, until finally taking him out. We never had the relationship you do with your Dad and maybe for others there's a lesson there, while their own father's are still alive. Stay strong, enjoy the moments.
While the cars were made in Germany, they're actually a Swiss company, Stadler. And because they're a Swiss company (basically the only one nowadays), you see a lot of their trains in Switzerland, so you can also see a lot of the exceptional features you found on the rocky mountaineer on regular Swiss trains.

My wife and I did this trip in the opposite direction as he termination of a 13 day cross Canada train trip in 2018. Great experience!!! This video makes me want to do it again!!! Our trip left Banff in October just after a record setting early snow storm that made the most magnificent landscape images of a lifetime!!! As shown in this video, the train service and experience was "unparalleled" !!!

How wonderful. You`re a good son Michael and your father is a lovely man who brought you up well. I`ll always remember when I was ten, my dad, (a train and model railway enthusiast), taking me on a steam train excursion in New Zealand many years ago. It was cold and rained, but we warmed up with hot sausages for lunch. Sadly, I never got to return the favor, as time flew by and he died aged 94 in 2021. Life seems to over-take us, then it`s too late. The moral: Spend time with those you love.

Another great video Mike. Good to have you back. Banff is one of my favorite places. I took my first river rafting trip on the Bow River many years ago. Also, I loved the music at 2:00 when you were boarding the train. Never expected to hear El Himno Nacional de Espana: "La Marcha Real" on a travel film starting in Vancouver. It is definitely a majestic melody.
