@K A D Y 📽️ bruh
@K A D Y 📽️ Damn, this is kinda sad
The Rocky Mountaineer was on my parents bucket list. However after my mom’s passing in 2013, I was still intent on taking my dad for his birthday. Unfortunately we lost him tragically in 2020. Still on my to-do list but sad that they never got to experience it. Life is short. So glad that you took your dad @DownieLive
I live in Germany and my dream is to do a trip with the rocky mountaineer :)
Which particular package would this be? I am more than intrigued! This is so cool!
We live in the US but my mom's always wanted to take a train like this. She turns 95 in 2023. It'll be her surprise birthday present. I'm glad I came across your channel.
never thought i'd be so excited to watch a man talk about trains yet here we are, solid work man! ✌🏼
Hahahaha 😂. Thanks Joe! I appreciate that!
Did you know that this route almost never happened? That’s right. It came about due to one person stubbornness.
At first the kicking horse pass was a 6 1/2% grade. East bound trains made it up but the problem was the westbound train. Only one out of every 3 trains made it down without a disaster derailing. It got bad enough that the Canadian government abandoned the project. However one guy brought the land and higher his own crew. He said why not go inside the mountain. And the spiral tunnels were built.
Here’s the hidden part of the story. Canada had given up on that pass and was routing it through usa. So to prove a route he tried to take a cargo train but was caught. I got to the point were it was delaying the trains big time so a challenge happened. He was given an oil train while another train without oil cars. First one to Vancouver wins and become the main line. To the engineer of the no oil train was behind the person. The oil train arrive just 3 minutes before the other train. There was a race back to calegry and yet this time the person was there 10 minutes ahead.
@@DownieLive - Mike, how close are some of those tunnel walls when you are in the open observation car? Whoa!
@@DownieLive Really great entertainment from you! Love you taking your dad on a great train trip. You're like a young Matthew McConaughey. Very enjoyable, Thanks! 😊
I worked on the train for 9 years. I never took it for granted! All routes are amazing.
Lucky you!
When my dad retired I took him to Europe to visit the homeland in Germany and the Netherlands. We spent 10 days traveling together. My father passed away in 2000. Our trip still is one of the best times I’ve ever had with my dad.I will remember our trip forever. Watching this trip on the train was wonderful to see his son and father traveling together.
dude you made me cry
I totally agree with you!
He left this life with happy memories. God Bless you and him🙏♥️❗
Mike you have moved me to tears, just watching you treat your Dad to that gorgeous train trip And both of you enjoying every minute of it! All the best you are my hero!
Wow, thank you
Yup, me too Kathy.
The best gift....wonderful memories. 🥰
You remind me so much of my dad
Your Dad is a treasure. Thanks for sharing him with us.
My pleasure, Chris!
My grandfather operated the fans at the open end of Connaught tunnel. Later on while my grandmother was on her way to the hospital in Revelstoke, my mother was born on the train, in the tunnel. The conductor wanted to call her "Connaught".
What a great story!
Ok this is now on my bucket list. The views are amazing and the staff was so wonderful. Thank you Mike for taking us on this adventure and letting us share the fond memories of you made with your dad. His words of wisdom are so correct and I can see why you are such a wonderful person. Thank you again for taking us along 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
American here. NYer. My wife and I went on Honeymoon back in the early 2000's to the Maritimes: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador. We fell in love with Canada. The food, the people and nature. Can't wait to do this trip.
I've never been on a train but I'm saving up money to go on my first train ride. They look so magical and I hope passenger trains don't die out ❤
Please tell your father Happy 75th. . my husband will turn 75 Dec 7th.. . Thank you so much for sharing all of this beauty with us. We look forward to all your work!
I just found your channel about 10 minutes ago and I started watching the first video of this trip and now you have the premiere of the second what are the odds that I would find you just as you’re about to Premier your video. I’m so excited and thank you for taking us on your wonderful trip.
@Dr. Morris Wisniewski I have been watching this channel for a while, and I would also like to do something similar in the future!
Ditto
All I can think of is the asdf kid going "I like trains"
or "tunnels!"
I LIKE TRAIINSSS

Your dad made this video for me. I'm glad you got to do this. I took my mom on the California Zephyr 9 months before she succumbed to her cancer. It was a great trip with lots of beautiful memories.
Savour every moment like this with your father. He won't be around forever. I lost my father in 2016, and I still miss him every single day. I just wish I had had the opportunity to do something like this with him whilst he was still with us.
Waving at your friends as you went through town was adorable! What a special memory with your dad! This is definitely on my bucket list and thank you for taking us along!
Made me tear up.... I have friends I'd love to do at least just that... Wave from a far. ♥
Honestly the best part of the trip is that you took it with your dad. So freaking cool!
Honestly Mike, you could produce your own travel show worldwide. I adore your enthusiasm. Thank you for introducing us to the Rocky Mountaineer and sharing your adventure. I would love to take this trip one day with my husband.
4:35 I don't know why I'm so excited about this part that I was moved to tears!!!! This is so awesome and so cool to see your friends this way!! Even though it was only for like 3 seconds but the fact that they made it all the way there and in time that you guys actually got to see each other!! Hooray!!!
I even replayed this section a few more times just to enjoy this moment, lol (yeah, I know I'm crazy..)
@@HELENation No, you're not crazy. I did the same (maybe I'm crazy too? 😄) I also shed a few tears during both parts. Family and friends are very important to me, and as we get older, they start to disappear.
@@citibear57 Indeed, that's why we need to seize our chances and treasure every moment whenever we see them :)
Happy Birthday, Mike’s Dad! What a beautiful trip ❤️
I just came across this program of a young man and his dad travelling over the Rockies via train. Many years ago, when I was the age of that young man, I travelled the same route. Watching it brought back so many wonderful memories.
Now, I'm the age of his father and it brought a big smile to my face to see the close relation they enjoy. Again, it reminded me so much of how close my son and I are. I live in Toronto and I'll be taking the train to London to be with my son and family this Christmas. Thank you for sparking those happy memories.
I'm looking forward to being with you as you explore the rest of our beautiful nation.
Leo
Your videos are so emotional. I enjoyed every second. Your father has done a great job with you!
Prior to the 1909 Spiral Tunnels, the CP mainline negotiated what was called 'The Big Hill.' Elderly members of my family shared stories of being on a passenger train going west down the Big Hill and they would have Canadian Pacific's most powerful locomotives operating in reverse to prevent the passenger train from coasting at a fast speed out of control down the steep grade. The Trans Canada Highway now follows some of the steep route where the tracks used to be....Great video...I've done that trip and want to do it again...cheers!!!
Isn’t that something? That’s the kind of story that needs to be added to the local museum.
Fascinating! I wonder if you could tell me the cost of this journey? Many thanks
This popped up in my recommended videos and I could not be happier! I felt like I was on the trip with you and your dad. You are such a great content creator and I am excited to see more. I lost my dad early this year and this made me so happy to see you truly enjoying your dads company. You sir are wise beyond your years. Hello from Michigan! 😃
Agree I so wish my husband and I could afford to go while I am still able to walk with a cane. But we're retired and on Social Security. It was so wonderful to see parts of the trip!!!
Your dad seems like a genuine guy
Your Dad makes me sooooooo happy! Happy Birthday, Dad!
My wife and I are researching a train trip sometime in 2023. Your videos are a great way to see what would suit us best. Keep up the good work.
Lost my father nearly 10 years ago.. The hug at the end left me teary eyed. Thank you for the videos.. I love trains, but taking train trips has been few and far between. Hope to rectify that in the near future.
I’m sure you’ve been told how fortunate you are to be able to travel for a living & yes that’s absolutely true. But this is not that kind of comment. The trips are wonderful but I love that your friends coordinated a wave while you passed through (quite literally). The fact your father joined you on this two day adventure making memories while on the train. That’s an amazing group of family & friends you have.
I agree! 😊
Love the father son bonding. Makes me wanna take my dad on a trip
DO IT !!!!!!!
Thanks Mike, you did it again!!! Got me tearing up at work. "Just keep doing it!!!!"
Your dad is really awesome. He should be on more trips!
Daddy Downie is adorable and has great jokes
Did this trip in 2019,it was FANTASTIC, loved it, and the hosts were beyond excellent. Magic!!!!!
My Dad wanted to go on this,I did the trip in his honour.
The spiral tunnels are amazing.
Our carriage was the last from kamloops, the view out the back was spectacular
One of the very best trips of my life.
Oh most important we saw mama bear with 3 cubs on the way into Banff.
Oh I travelled from Ireland to do the journey.
What a sweet trip for you and your Dad. Way to honor him. 👍♥️
Just discovered your channel last night and let me tell you....keep being a positive light to people around the world Mike! And I hope your father lives a long and healthy life as well, he deserves it!!!
Mike, your happiness and enthusiasm is highly contagious. Have been watching your videos for a while now. But today I learned where you imbibe all those great qualities of yours from. What a humble soul your dad is!! I too have lovely memories of travelling with my family on a train back in the day and watching your videos, brings back all of them. This Rocky Mountaineer series, I feel, is your best editing work. Love the way the videos unfolded and the true unfiltered emotions it showcased. New addition to my bucket list. Thank you for the inspiration. Great job Mike. 👍🏼
OMG i am in love with the relationship between you & your Dad. It is so great to see this. Thanks so much for sharing him with us.
Such beautiful views, people and food. Love your relationship with your dad. Nice to see men hug and show such love for each other. You can tell your dad is so proud of you.
I did this trip in 2015 and I’ve actually learned more from yours than I did from mine lol. My Canadian holiday was the best in my life and I’m the same age as your dad and been a fair few places. Thank you and many more birthdays to your dad
The surprise hug at the end was the cutest 🥰 thanks for sharing the feel good vibes n such a lovely experience w/ us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
It was a pleasure to share this trip with you and your father!
I lost my dad Dec. 29th of last year and watching you being able to enjoy this with your dad makes me miss mine so much more! Enjoy every bit if time you get with him.
I can't wait to ride the Rocky Mountaineer myself....but like you Mike, I will not do that trip alone. You can do it alone, and as you found, you will meet cool people on the train...but to share it with someone else...so much better! Love that you include your family/friends while traveling/making these videos. I never did a trip like this with my Dad, who passed away in 2018. Anyone reading this comment....if you have the option to do stuff like this...DO IT! Cause you never know how much time you or your loved one have left.
The spiral tunnels are pretty amazing, especially considering how long ago they were designed and built. And the Canadian Rockies, well they define spectacular. This train is something I must take sometime.
I totally agree!
Beautiful video Mike. Looking forward to your series. It will be great I know. Congrats to Dad for 75 years.
You are the best son ever. I can tell your dad just loved the trip. What a special time to spend together.
What a incredible way to see the beauty of Canada. Very cool.
The Rocky Mountaineer is a bucket list item for me and has been for many years. Thank you for (a) bringing it to life and (b) confirming it's the trip of a lifetime as I have always suggested. This two-part video is among your very finest, Mike.
This Andrew Whittaker completely agrees! Moved up my bucket list thanks to this 👍🙏
YOU SHOULD LET DAD SIT NEXT TO WINDOW SEAT
.....IT IS HIS TRIP OF HIS LIFE TIME ❗❗❗
IT IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO BE SENSITIVE TO HIS ENJOYMENT .....MAKE IT PERFECTLY MEMORABLE FOR HIM......HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD 🎁⚘🎁⚘🎁⚘🎁⚘
Do as much with Mom and Dad as possible. Great work Downie. You have a Great Soul Brother.
Love you’re videos Mike, your covid adventures in Canada got me hooked on your channel. As an employee in the tourism industry, you’ve given me ideas on adventures for my bucket list.
Im close to your Dad's age, what I've learned is that Family is everything! Live on Mike and thanks for sharing this moment with us.
I found your channel because my 14 year old daughter and I have a someday plan of taking a train through the Rockies. We live in Ontario and I got the chance to go cross country as a kid by train and drive with my family and even Greyhound bus. And that was the best gift I ever got from my parents. The chance to see this amazing country.
I am struggling with some health things, both physical and mental. But one thing that keeps me looking forward is the chance to share the country with my daughter. We went east already and when I feel better we will go west. And I want to say thanks for inspiring us and showing us how wonderful it will be.
Bless you for taking your dad on this amazing trip.
Happy birthday to your dad, Mike. You are very lucky to be able to make this trip with your dad and document it all the way. Really enjoyed your amazing story telling style and your dad’s beautiful smile.
Your dad's philosophy on life was perfect, I couldn't agree more.
A trip on the Rocky Mountaineer is definitely on my bucket list!
it's great to see you spending time with your dad
That was so great that your friends and you were able to see each other no matter how brief! I understand I live in Georgia US and my best friend moved to Indiana US 10 years ago and I miss him and his family terribly!😢
I can tell you and your dad are really close and it's obvious he loves his son. Giving him this experience with you is a wonderful expression of your love for him. It is a memory that will last the rest of your life and in fact will become more precious as time goes by.
Although I am an American, I have a great love for Canada. Over the years I have returned to this area many times because I believe it is truly one of the most beautiful places in the world. The peace that it brings to a person is boundless. What a wonderful trip for you and for us. Thanks Mike.
Surprise hug!!!! My heart melted💕
What a gorgeous train ride the landscape is EVERYTHING!!!! Mother nature is the coolest
I took this train and Michael failed to mention HOW MANY PEOPKE WAVE TO THE TRAIN. It’s like the entire country got some memo. On Shuswap lake, there was someone waterskiing and waving! Kids at the skate park, people in the car waiting for the train to pass, EVERYBODY! Was a really cool touch. It’s a pricey trip but I think the price point is spot on. I’m a Canadian who lives in Vancouver and I was still blow away! Also, the servers basically never deny any request for food or drink. As long as they had it, you can get it!
We are happy you're with your Dad traveling. He's enjoying very much. You're an amazing son with amazing Parents, amazing travel. Great Channel Jack👍♥️❗
These moments are priceless!! Happy Birthday to your Dad!! 🎂🎁
Ive drove past the spiral tunnels and wanted to stop and watch a train go through, but never caught one and been to rushed by the people im traveling with to wait so it was so cool to see this from the inside perspective!
for many of us who might never get to do this amazing trip 😍thankyou for sharing your journey with us 👍🙏👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A few years my father died 2 days before his 74th Birthday - Loved the Interactions with your Dad enjoy these treasured memories sometimes the people you travel along the tracks of life are more important and more memorable than the trip itself.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Downie. What a beautiful area to travel through by train; and a very beautiful train to boot! I can't wait to see your videos on your multi-province trip through Canada.
I think we need to see Rick (Mike’s dad) on more of these adventures! Maybe even have Mike do a Cross-Canada train series???
That's a good idea, but I was really looking forward to doing a big series with you, @sprouht!
Your dad is very cool. I bet he has brought joy to many others over his 75 years. Thanks for sharing the trip.
Reilly and Sara waving at you guys was a feel good
I feel in love with this channel just because of the positive energy it gives. Earning money to visit this in the near future after this pandemic with a variety of mutation
Just amazing video, the editing, the love from father and son, awesome! You just popped up as a recommended and now I'm a subscriber! With much love, from Portugal!
Welcome aboard!
Most beautiful parts were your bonding with your father, and I loved that short opportunity of hello to your friend. That short moment showed a deep bond of friendship.
What a great time you and your father had, and your pops has a very similar personality.
I can't wait for your trip across Canada series. I hope you enjoy Quebec when you pass through here :-)
That was wonderful.I’ve only seen the Canadian Rockies from the air, and I remember how breathtaking they were. I’m so glad you and your dad could spend such quality time together. Thanks for taking us with you!
I am forever grateful as the trip I took with my mother and cousin. She just passed at 101 so I am sad but we took many wonderful trips earlier. And the Rocky Mountaineer was right up there. I rememer the spiral tunnels. It was amazing
Amazing Father and Son duo!!
the amount of love you have for your dad is what I can only hope from my future kids if I ever have any. much respect man. good on you to bring a smile to anyone you come close to
Neat to see the trip from 3 Valley Gap to Banff. I’ve driven that portion my whole life going to the Okanagan to visit grandparents, or now that I live there, going to AB to visit family. Pretty cool perspective to see it from the train. I’ve always wanted to take the Rocky Mountaineer, I didn’t realize it went through the spiral tunnels!
ahhh the best video of your series.... (thus far) it is incredible that you gifted your papi with a train trip from Vancouver to Banff. You are kind and generous and.... your papi always has the "bon mots'" welcome to Banff and welcome to Alberta. ... excellences with authenticity.
Canada has the most famous luxurious train to the rocky mountaineer in the world. Love the way the scenery flowing along with the train...💖
A perfect way to combine your love and appreciation for your father with your love and appreciation of travel. It is apparent to me as a parent myself, that your father has done a proper job of raising you and It's hard to imagine a more fitting way to thank him for his parentage and sacrifices along the way. You've earned a like and a new subscriber. Happy travels!
I can't even tell you how much I loved these 2 videos on The Rocky Mountaineer. I just finished reading a book called "The Last Spike" which is the definitive story about building the CP rail line across the country. It was an incredible feat which basically helped create Canada as it is today. I now have a new goal... ride the train through this part of the country.
I love this kid and his dad, thank you for this. Love ya kid keep it coming.
Always a pleasure, Don! Happy Friday!
@@DownieLive thank you kid, keep it coming. Love you and your kin.
You have a beautiful father!!! You two are great!!! Thank you for sharing his birthday with us!!!!! Happy Birthday to you!!!
This was just beautiful! I have always wanted to visit Canada, and the train looks like such a great way to see the country in all its glorious beauty--Greetings from Memphis, Tennessee.
Thank you so much for sharing! This is definitely on my bucket list!!!
Gorgeous!! When I moved to BC I used the train … outstanding trip👍🏽💯👍🏽💯👍🏽💯
your dads smile after you leaned your head on his shoulder made me cry so much man.
I want to watch this all over again, amazing, thank you for sharing your experience!
Great video Mike. You and your dad look like you had so much fun. Seeing this video made me feel extremely proud to be Canadian. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
The view from the train is beautiful!!!
3:28 idk why but i got so happy when he said Salmon Arm because that’s where i live, crazy to think that 7 months ago you went through my city, i remember seeing the rocky mountaineer going through Salmon Arm on that day
What an incredible blessing to share such a wonderful trip with your dad. I love Banff having been there about 6 years ago. Totally enjoyed this trip and looking forward to your next one. I also would love the outside area of the train!
Apart from this video being another phenomenal one, I just love your dad and the special relationship the two of you share ♥️.
Idk why I cried when the train arrived at Banff. Thank you for sharing this amazing journey with us!
I can tell, this one is more for your memories than views on UA-cam, which actually makes it a more genuine experience for us the viewers.
