Got mine today -- absolutely amazingly easy to install. BEYOND fast shipping. Ordered overnight sometime on Wednesday - in my mailbox from California to Nebraska Saturday. no more 30 minute batteries in 4K. Thanks for the great video that led me to it.
The ultimate motovlogging case would be water resistant and support external wired mic in helmet AND power from power bank..... It is great to see innovation for different use cases though..... Thanks for sharing.
I bought one of these a year or so ago and it works spot on with my gopro 8 as my gopro is mounted about 20m from my position and use a power bank with it and cover the power bank with an outside tap cover.
I agree....but honestly wish GoPro would just add the 3.5 jack into the casing, even if it was inside so that it was not waterproof it would enable solutions like this to work. I use the YoloTek Silicone Rainproof Putty in my setup, and no, I'm not sponsored by them....simply offering a solution where the one in this video won't work.
a sleeve over the Ulanzi g8-7 works quite well, less stress . Lucky me I did a timelapse and as i taken away the camera the rain came. moisture is not going to damage it but getting it totally wet will.
This case looks really useful for what I need, but I do think it's a massive oversight that they didn't add the possibility to add a lense protector as well, especially since the Hero 8 Black doesn't come with an interchangeable lense to begin with. Guess I'll have to 3D print a solution for that to attach to this case because it seems like it's the only proper weatherproof charging mod out there.
Amazes me for a big company like GoPro how poor their designs are, ive had a few GoPros and they all suffer really bad with trying to connect external source like power or mics, and on top of that the battery doesnt last that long, About the only good thing about GoPros is the software, i really wish they would get the hardware sorted so we didnt have to use these after market devices
Thanks, I've been looking for something like this. I'm so tired of changing batteries, or finding out they have died while on my mountain bike rides. I try to be a minimalist too. I don't want to carry more than I need while I ride. Mind you, I've hauled my DSLR gear on a few of my rides and it was more inconvenient than I wanted. Granted, I did have some nice shots, but if I am out on a trail for more than 2 hours and I still have to get back to my truck? Less is more in this case. I'd love to get a drone, but thinking of everything I have to carry when I ride, I've had second thoughts... Anyway, sorry for the long post... Hope are safe and well.
I could've done with this about a year ago for my Hero7... but I'm just about to upgrade to the 10, when on sale (Black Friday/Boxing Day Sales).. and I think this will be redundant as GoPro now has its own usb weather-proof pass through door... which I will be getting once I get the 10.
What I've found, wondering if you did too, is when I'm running with this plugged in to power, my GPS stream is empty - the video file says it's there, but there is ZERO data. If I record on battery I get USABLE gps data embedded into the video
I wouldn't use this for weather, is it fine to jsut use this to continuously charge my Hero 8? It's going to arive today, my first GoPro EVER and got it i na bundle, s it came with batteries and a 64 gb. Apparently the battery life is unnaceptably short tho, around an hour/1.5hr at most on a single battery charge. I really hope this is mountable, I plan to pretty much use the gopro with some sort of battery extender on head strap.
The only part that I wonder about still though is how well would your external power source hold up to the rain? The battery you're using looks nice, but still is an unsealed USB connection right?
I'm not sure if you've gotten an answer to this elsewhere or maybe figured it out on your own by this point. I use a ziploc bag or wrap mine up loosely in plastic bags and it works pretty well. I'm sure you could also build a small box or get a container of some sort. Of course this also depends on the application as to what works best in your case. Hope this helps! 👍
I bought a cheep pelican case thing from HarborFreight. It was like 20 bucks and I just cut a small hole for the cable to go through Edit: I use my GoPros and power banks for outdoor thunderstorm Timelapses
awesome video! Questions: 1) Is the USB-C dismountable from the padding / would I be able to put in another cable instead of the one you show on the video? Asking, as I need to mount a USB-C to Dual USB-C in order to both have my Gopro charged externally as well as have it connected to my 3.5 mic adapter. 2) Random question - I know - But what font is the "Air Photography"? I really dig it! Thanks in advance 👍
I record everything in 4K 100Mbps quality and I find the charging cannot keep up to the how much the camera uses. Eventually after about 40minutes, my internal battery is still dead and the camera is useless.
I know there are some weatherproof ones available on Amazon but there aren’t really any back to be completely submerged in water. Once the rubber flap is open to allow you to plug it in it’s susceptible to moisture
A 9” cable? I bought it thinking for sure the cable was going to be much longer so I could route the cable into a power bank in my pocket. Nope. Crazy.
That’s just how it’s built. It says on the site that it will not charge the battery while recording. Probably because it is using all the power to function the go pro. Most people take the batter out while recording with it plugged in. This way it won’t overheat.
Thanks for reviewing this product! I have a client that wants to capture a time lapse of a 3-4 month long construction process, using 2-3 GoPro cameras to record the construction. Do you know if a GoPro H8 or H9 can safely be powered via an AC powered USB charger for an extended period of time (like a week long period)?
Yes I have done long-term time lapses before. I’ve never done one quite that long. Something you may want to look into is Gopro labs. It’s firmware you can load onto your GoPro which adds many new features one of them is long term time lapse feature. The camera will power on take a frame and then power off and you could theoretically do this and definitely.
Hi sir i have question im filing surf fishing in the beach is the frame splash prof because i always change battery so need one that splash proff thank you
External power source...what size? I will need about 6 to 8 hours of continuous battery power. I plan on using the 20 minute "loop" function to save on card space. This will be for my kayak fishing adventures. I will use the app to save the segments I catch fish. What size external battery should I get? I will be most likely shooting in 1080/60 mode. (Hero 8 black) Thanks
Personally I would be using either a 20,000 mA or the 26,000. The 20,000 would obviously be smaller and easier to carry around. Both ravpower And Anker Make a nice 20,000 that’s not too bulky
Thanks for the video! But I still have a few questions, does the case hold up if you fall into the water? or have to run through a waterfall? I don't want to dive with it, but accidentally fall into a river? Wouldn't it be the first time that happened ... If so, that would be a very intersant product for me. Thx

Yes that is notorious for GoPro’s across-the-board all models And other similar action cameras as well. When recording in 4K they can get very hot and will sometime shut down to Prevent damage, it can be very annoying
@@Ziontastic This product isn't for you then. This is to give you ability to power and charge the camera while in use, hence the battery cover removed and replaced with the extension cord to plug to a power bank.
RJ Umlas yeah but it would be nice to have a cage with this kind of additional specs and thinking of changing my gopro media mod. If it fits the battery cover inside then i will order thats why im asking.
It’s a niche product for very specific situations. Quite often there is not a need for Audio recorded directly on the unit. There are there options for those who do need are you using a separate recorder.
A standard USB-C cable can be hacked to the GoPro HERO8 by sealing with RTV or silicone snot. However, it sticks to the camera and I personally don't want to wreck my $400 GoPro. And then there is the issue of supporting the cable. Without some kind of retainer, the cable will whip and vibrate in the wind and tear the USB-C socket out of the camera. At US$55.. (NOT $100) vs. $5.00 you get what you pay for.
@@3BRPOWERSPORTS YoloTek Silicone Rain Putty works great and doesn't stick to the camera. I've always been able to pull it off without any marks at all. I just wish it were cheaper.
