JerryRigEverything can you maybe do a tear down of Donald trump? I think that you can fix his racist problems pretty well, I have some parts you could use
I'm not sure as to why I'm watching this but just because you're entertaining and it's fun to watch your teardowns. I instantly liked the video and stayed watching the whole thing.
the lense cover has a slight twist and it comes off. you don't have to snap it off. for the GoPro dive suit this cover has to be removed, and it's very easy to remove by twisting it counterclockwise, it's less than a quarter turn at best and it just lifts off.
Thanks for this thorough coverage. Replacement rear touch-screens are now available.. (reference your comments at the 2:50 mark).. Adhesive is T-7000 and is a little more pliable to pry off if it's heated a lot beforehand.. My screen was already shattered, so I continued to destroy it in the removal process.. Got the screen out by pushing with a thin screwdriver from the back corner after battery housing removal. I used a sharp X-Acto blade to scrape the remaining shards of glass from the adhesive/edge where it's seated. PS - Don't forget to reinstall the speaker at the 5:45 mark, and the (6) little screws holding my armature were T3, not T4. Cheers.
Jerry, the best (simplicity + clarity) video I have seen so far. I had accidentally inserted my SD Card between the slot of the body and suspected that I have dislodged some cable due to which the screen has gone blank. From your video, it looks like I might just be right and with luck be able to fix the same. thanks!
I bought a refurbished GoPro Hero 5 black. After about 2 months the LCD just stopped displaying anything, but it was still responding to touches (because the settings icon appeared on the front LCD if I swiped on the display). I figured the ribbon cable must be making bad contact.... After watching this video I noticed that the ribbon cable runs behind the battery cage before clipping into the motherboard. By removing the battery and pressing firmly down onto the location where the ribbon cable clips in I was able to get the LCD to make a connection again! (No teardown required) Great video!
hey zack keep posting the videos we have to wait for quite a few days to watch something. there is no one like you on entire youtube i love your channel.
Wow you were not kidding about the front rubber housing. That glue strip down the center is pure evil. Managed to get it off with only a tiny amount of side marring. Noticed the links to your tools in the description though so hopefully next round will be mar free!
JerryRigEverything hey I was wondering what's your current phone that you're using? If it's a note 7 do you plan on returning it after the last recall and if so what phone do you plan on moving to?
JerryRigEverything The key is not to twist hard but to pull the lens outwards and then twist counterclockwise. I do it all the time for night videos when the outer lens produces excessive glare.
@vishverma420 Hey! The plastic frame around the lens of my GoPro 4:22 (the one that is on the outside, not the lens itself) came off after falling from my bed. It's not broken, it just came off. If I put the frame back on using the instructions you provided earlier, will it still be waterproof? Thanks in advance!
Wow, never thought I would say this, but this is the best tear down I've ever watched. Great voice, extensive, cautionary, informative. I got to sub now.
Nice vid, but need little mention, gopro filter can be detached just by rotating it, no needs in breaking it to pull back again. The other spots is on point. Wanted to change housing with removing a display from it, now i see it is difficult than i thought
Why does the note 7 kept catching fire even the replacement units? theres not enough valid explanation other than faulty battery? can you venture further about it?
Jerry, thank You for that video! But I still have the question and I think most of viewers too. How dose the lens attached to that plastic tube with the sensor? That's really important question because all of pro users are interested in modifying gopro with other lenses that are widely presented...
Sir you've made a fatal error on disassembly: The lens caps can be simply removed with just a little twist on the cap, to the left as usual. This video seen you've used pryer to do that.
It's hardly fatal. Removal of the lens housing is to twist it off as it's designed to do so. Instructions for such are included with the Super Suit housing.
JerryRigEverything Pull outwards on the lens cover and twist to the left. It pops right off. It's designed this way so it can be easily replaced if scratched.
JerryRigEverything it is on 0:35 . I know you didn't know that because the little instruction isn't imprinted. GoPro, please tell people max properly next time. Imprint the twist icon on the next production of lens cap now on
Joel Robert Justiawan In fairness to GoPro, as I mentioned the instructions to remove the lens are included on the Super Suit packaging. Generally speaking it would not do GoPro or anyone any good for people to be taking apart their HERO5s without any need to do so. The most common reason previous GoPro dive housing wind up with leaks for example is particulate matter stuck in the gasket. Needlessly removing the dive housing unless you are actually doing a replacement or Super Suit installation just creates an environment for things to go wrong.
My Hero 5 camera leaked when I was out surfing. Thought the camera was dead. But used your vid to take it apart, then soaked it in alcohol and it's now operational. Thanks.
The lens can be twisted off gently and doing so with a pry tool you could slip and break the glass. In order to pull the lens off camera facing you like its gonna take your picture then gently pull it out and turn to the left and bam lens is off gently
jerry please do a durability test on the Sony HDR-AS50/X3000! It is supposed to go upto 60 meters, and it has an interesting formfactor! the AS50 is only 200 dollars, and the x3000 has full OIS!!
I used t3 instead of t4. T4 did not fit for some reason. Was trying to replace the cracked lens...holy moly the imaging sensor is super duper glued together..
Pull out and twist the lens counter clockwise to unscrew it! It is difficult but that's how it's meant to be done. Funny how some people don't just read the manual
even the lens cap removed, it still waterproof? but I'm not recomended it to keep it off as it is unprotected. hey, they can make accessories replacing the cap for!
Umm bro.... Its super easy to remove the lens cover from a go pro 5... All you have to do is pull and twist...... Thats what i do all thr time at worm... I dont have to pull or push the metal bar inside the cover. But super helpful video as always. Learnt alot more then i thought i knew
hello! very, very good work! i just wanted to ask... is there any chance that you would make a video on how to repair an old film camera? since there are videos, but they are mostly in Russian. you have the ability to explain very well, and judging by you videos, the cameras will be like a piece of cake for you :)
Hi Zack i really like your teardown videos. Could you maybe start to mention what kind of chips (ICs, name and purpose) were used on the PCBs of the products you tear down. I'm really facinated by how products work and what the core components are. Keep up the good work :-)
Can you replace the internal lens by unscrewing it? Or do you have to replace the whole circuit board it is connected too. Can you separate everything so you just remove the lens
hi man. can you also introduce freezing test for phones. as winters can cold, its quite usefull to know how phone will react at sub zero temps and transitions from + - +
Is the go pro still waterproof if I have removed the lense once and put it on again? As you said that any go pro which has been opened up won’t be water resistant anymore Does removing the lense also count as opening up Thanks
The removal of the lens itself on GoPro Hero 5/6 hasn't been covered on any videos on youtube. There is a ton of videos just showing how to remove the lens cover but not how to separate the lens itself. It's something many people need to do when installing an alternative lens to remove the fisheye-effect, but there is not a single video about it, nor any other media covering that part of the camera. How about a short supplementary video about that :D
Would have been interesting to know if the lens itself can be unscrewed from the sensor housing (has been possible on Hero3/4). Some people like to swap out for narrower angle lenses.
The lens socket is glued to the sensor board and the lens can be removed but not the same way the Hero3 and Hero4 were. Also the lens thread is NOT M12 like the other gopro cameras so you can NOT swap lenses unless you put in a custom M12 socket made to fit the Hero5.

Hi Zack 🙂 I’ve just found your vid on the GoPro hero 5 and absolutely love it, but I have a question as I have just purchased a used GoPro hero 5 and like it heaps, but the problem is the audio, so I went on a search to find a little adapter to attach my mic to ,the problem is I’m only able to find an adapter that in Australia is going to cost me in excess of $100 Aud (if I’m lucky, possibly more lol) my question is , I have scoured the internet trying to find a solution , or a diy fix to this as my previous GoPro only needed a $4/5 adapter for a mic, but there’s absolutely nothing I can find, what I need to know is what makes the “GoPro mic adapter for GoPro 5/6 so dang special) and why can’t I diy it ??? I've replaced my lens cover because it got cracked when the camera tipped over. Now the new lens is much easier to remove than the original. Is it still waterproof?
Hi there, great video. I have a question maybe you could answer. The tiny gold ribbon cable that connects the power button (and apparently the sound on the video) has come out of the connector and the white connector latch has broken off (happened while changing out a lens). I'm able to fit the tip of the gold cable back in but it won't stay in place when I reassemble the camera. Is there some way to glue it in place? If so which glue could I use safely. I've tried using a tiny piece of electrical tape but it doesn't seem very effective though I have got the camera to work but without sound on the video. Thanks in advance!
