Great video! I just did a test and by pre soaking with a rinse less and power washing it off. I think it took the same amount of dirt off ( if not more) than using a foam cannon.
It took me 30 minutes to do a complete rinse less wash and apply a graphene spray wax as I dried it. It normally takes me close to an hour to do a traditional soap contact wash. It has taken me awhile to convert. Because of your videos I’ve joined the rinseless team.
I’ve started using the rinseless mixture in my carpet extractor. Works like a charm! Thanks Yvan.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I love the rinseless wash, especially since I live in an apartment and do not have access to running water. Lots of pre rinsing before with a spray bottle, bucket with rinseless in it and grit guard, and a nice 1300gsm double tweed microfiber and job done. I experimented on my old car, and now I was my brand new RSQ3 this way. Oh, and my car is black, and I definitely feel safe using this method.
Just one sidenote, when the car is really dirty, I do go to the car wash to do some power washing, but I like Yvan's suggestion of prerinsing with a rinseless wash - it makes so much sense.

This dude is a gem and I’m glad there’s intelligent mind promoting progressive tech in the industry over doing it the old way just because that’s all you know. Some classic things just aren’t worth it anymore.

Yvon …… My Ultra Black sponge arrived on Thursday, so last night I washed my pickup. For the first time, I followed your rinseless wash method ….. I am definitely a convert! It was easier with fewer steps. Washing with this method I felt my paint was safe throughout the process. Using McKees 37 914 as a prewash spray and in my wash bucket I had lots of lubrication. For drying I used Turtle Wax Flex Wax as a drying lubricant.
I felt confident in the method and the truck looks great 👍. Thank you for your great informative videos 🤠

Great video, Yvan, and I've learned a lot about maintaining my and my wife's cars from you, Pan, and several other UA-camrs who promote rinseless washing. For the past four years, I've enjoyed using ONR off and on, between foam cannon/two bucket washes using Meguiar's Gold Class soap on my black E Class. However, this winter (I live in Metro DC so we can get bad weather at times), I began applying ONR with a pump sprayer, letting it dwell to loosen heavy road grime, and then alternating between using 6-7 microfiber towels (folded into eighths) and a (non-BRS/non-BBS) serrated sponge to apply ONR.
I keep a 256:1 mixture of ONR in a bucket filled with four gallons of distilled water with a grit guard and sealed with a gamma lid in my garage. Despite reassurances that the polymers release dirt from the wash media, I noticed that the ONR smelled a bit rancid after 1-2 washes. I've since started using an otherwise identical "dirty" bucket with two gallons of regular water and a capful of ONR into which I squeeze the sponge after each pass. Then, I use the "clean" bucket to wash my paint. Since then, the ONR mix has stayed much cleaner and I can get 5-6 washes out of it.
Once I learned about pre-spraying ONR, I've found rinseless washing to be more convenient and at least as effective as my former soap method and now very seldom wash any of our cars the traditional way. Sorry for burying the lede, but shortly after I bought my first bottle of ONR in early 2018, I also bought the ONR Wash and Wax (green) formula. I keep a mixture of ONRWW and distilled water in a spray bottle in my trunk (along with 8-10 microfiber cloths) to combat bird bombs or other debris that get on my paint between washes. Despite being on my third bottle of blue ONR, using ONRWW for this limited purpose, I have only used about 1/4 bottle of ONRWW in the past four years.
Haven't seen much about ONRWW and am curious about your thoughts on its efficacy vs. the regular blue ONR. I occasionally use it as a drying aid (i.e., spritz the ONRWW onto panels that have dried out or are about to do so before towel drying. Is this good practice? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    • @Detailers-Business-Academy
      @Detailers-Business-Academy  2 роки тому +1

Thanks for the comments. The odour in your wash bucket is from what you’re removing from the surface of the car contaminating the solution. Occasionally clean your sponge with APC or dish soap, ONR tends to saturate the wash media with grime.
ONRWW is as good and versatile as the standard, plus it leaves behind a bit of protection.

Issues I had when using rinseless wash. Though, it was a major help in getting my business mobile
    1. I'm in the southeast US and many parts of the year we have something falling from the trees that gets caught up on cars. Pine neeldes, leaves, acorns, catkins etc. The only way to remove excessive amounts compacted in the cowls or roof would be free flowing water of some kind
    2. Over 75% of my customer base had big trucks/suvs. Even wth a ladder it was difficult getting some roofs and hoods by hand. A wash media on a extension pole would do wonders

@@Detailers-Business-Academy Thanks, Yvan. "Shots fired!" haha. The part after 4 mins in helped: "the reason it's safer isn't necessarily the wash", it's the drying process that carries the most risk. You've convinced me that rinseless is "safe-er" technically speaking (for the reasons you give here), although when foaming the vehicle serves a purpose (e.g. with other chemicals as part of a full decon wash) my takeaway is that, with proper technique in each case, using a quality drying aid pretty much levels the field, which is nice to know. I personally find in my practice that the Big red sponge can't pick up everything. And to prevent my drying towel from picking up any dirt smudges, I still go over the entire vehicle with a wet microfiber towel or wash mitt before the drying towel touches the car. I have also considered that for those who are in business of detailing and efficiency, perhaps the multiple towel method is the way to go. Less time going back to the bucket and wringing the sponge/wash mitt, more time flipping the sides of that one towel and actively cleaning the car. It relatively safe, but probably not UltraBlack/BigRED/Yellow sponge safe.

    • @Detailers-Business-Academy
      @Detailers-Business-Academy  2 роки тому +3

Towels unfortunately create pressure points, and keep the dirt on their surface. If your sponge is leaving behind dirt on the surface, you may be using it too wet. It’s normal that your towel will get soiled, but what it’s picking up is encapsulated in the rinseless solution, and paint safe.

I wonder whether a pressure washer might actually cause pitting, more than swirls. I imagine the initial impact pushing the dirt into the surface, but then lifting it off. So in a nutshell for a home detailer just doing carwashes...
    1. Spray with diluted solution of N-914 (Green bottle rinseless wash?) (Also assuming pump spray bottle makes this part easier)
    2. Wash off with pressure washer
    3. Wash with Ultra Black Sponge and solutoin of N-914 in bucket (green bottle rinseless wash or white bottle rinse and wax?)
    4. Dry off with microfiber towel (any suggestions on how many? One per panel? One per car OK?)

There’s a few ways to convince them. First is education, ask them if they still use a rotary dial landline phone or a smart phone, watch a B&W tv or a large flat screen. When they answer they use the modern alternative, then explain that washing there modern paint with soap is like trying to send a text message with a rotary phone, or watching a 4K Blu-ray movie on a 13 inch tube. Washing with soap is old technology, Rinseless is safer, faster and does a better job.
Next say if you want a soap wash it’s an extra $50 because you need to set up for it, and it takes longer. They will suddenly leap into the 2000’s to save $50.

Finally if you have access to a body shop. Spray on both products on a freshly (un touched out of the paint booth) painted vertical surface, allow to dwell . Sheet the products off to not get any water spots. Once dry, wet again and observe if there is any change in the beading characteristics that would indicate a film on the surface.

I haven’t washed with soap in over a year! It’s funny as when I was mobile I did all soap and 3 bucket washes. Then last year as I got away from mobile I switched to rinseless; my process has been so much more efficient and safe too! Funny as you’d think a mobile Detailer would be a rinseless wash guy and a shop would be using soap. But not me! Rinseless is the best way for me!!

Hi Yvan, from watching UA-cam there seems to be a difference in using a foam cannon from your side of the Atlantic to the UK. Here In the UK for a prewash we want a snowfoam that cleans so may be a little on the alkaline side rather than PH neutral which as you state, does nothing. The foams I use e.g Bilt Hamber Autofoam will leave the panel much cleaner than pressure washing alone. I’ve always found it strange seeing videos where soaps meant for the bucket are used as a prewash as they are not designed for this. With regards to rinse less, I know the likes of you and Levi will mention that if the vehicle is dirty then pressure wash first followed by the rinse less. The problem is I can’t recall ever seeing a video showing this nice and safe rinse less method. It’s always someone wiping down a dirty car with rinse less which will make most detailers shout at the screen “you’re scratching the car!” I think this is why there is the inertia is switching to polymer cleaning from soap cleaning. I know it’s always mentioned but that involves taking in the advice of pressure washing first and putting it in to practice for themselves. That takes some initiative on their part which may be where the problem is! If it’s shown in several videos I think people will copy it. They do with so many other detailing practices. Rinse less does allow a different method but it’s that method people have the problem with more often that not rather than the rinse less product itself. I use soap sometimes, rinse less sometimes on how the mood takes me but I’m just cleaning my own cars and enjoy the process. Still like to be efficient though!

There is one thing that won't leave me alone.
If I want to do a conventional car wash with wash gloves, I would like to spray on a Rinseless solution and then spray it off with the pressure washer. I have been advised against this. I should rather spray on foam. But if the rinseless solution really encapsulates the dirt, then the method should be safe. Or am I looking at it the wrong way? Isn't this method even better than an applied foam? Which method is safer? Or are both equally good in your opinion?

Hi! I’m recently a big fan of rinseless washing and I have some questions. Question 1 & 2 is mostly regarding the drying lubrication that comes with a rinseless wash, but I’m happy to get any valuable info and opinions. If you need a specific rinseless solution and/or sponge to answer, use ONR and UBS.
    1. Can I use a wet wax or a hybrid ceramic wet wax after a rinseless wash?

If yes; How close to the drying do I need to wash the microfibre cloths if they have dried up a hybrid ceramic wet wax?
    2. Is it fine to first use an insect spray on parts of the car and afterwards use a sponge soaked in a rinseless-water mix?

If yes; Is it bad to dunk the sponge back in the rinseless-water mix after dragning it over the area with bug spray?
    3. Is it still important to go from the less dirty panels to the most dirty panels as I was instructed to do with the museum technique of car washing?
Thank you for a good informational video on car washing!

2 yes you can follow up insect remover with a Rinseless. It would be good to give it a quick rinse if there’s lots of insect remover on it.

Great content as always, thank you. I need to get one thing clear. Foam cannon foams are useless according to what you are saying because they sue old tech soaps and to lift nor encapsulate the dirt prior to the first jet wash rinse. Is this the case with ALL foams? There are nice rinseless washes that come in 5L containers and a hand sprayer on a long tube. I suppose this is the best thing since first of all I am using polymer based rinseless wash and secondly I am not using any power or water compared to foam cannon? I use Bilt Hamber Autofoam right now. It doesn't claim to be a rinseless or waterless wash but does say it lifts and encapsulates dirt. Cars from 10ft look really clean and only residual road film remains in the usual places, which I remove using contact wash. I watch your videos because I fully subscribe to your "philosophy" of doing more with less and not doing things which clients cannot see or don't care about. ANyways, thanks again :)

Some soaps like the one you use, will remove dirt, but unfortunately don’t provide much if any lubrication. Additionally if you do a test, apply the foam to one panel, allow to dwell and jet wash. On the adjacent panel simply jet wash it. Next allow them both to air dry. This will allow you to determine what work the foam is doing VS what the jet wash is doing.

I recently purchased a new car and ceramic coated it the day I got the keys. Where I always struggled with ONR is the lower third of the car. Using only ONR I couldn't restore the hydrophobic properties of the coating on the lower parts of the car. Mainly those parts where the splash water from the tires hit the paint. Spraying APC and agitating it with the UBS+ONR seems to restore the hydrophobic properties very well. Is there something accumulating on the paint a simple ONR/rinseless wash can't get rid of? Seems weird having to use an APC basically everytime after the car was driven in the rain. Thank you very much Yvan!

Hi Yvan! Great Video! When using ONR or N914, is it necessary to always use distilled water or is tap fine? Also, should UBS be stored in rinseless solution like the BRS! What’s the best way to store UBS

If dirt goes to the bottom of the bucket why do I end up with a grey ring around my bucket at the water line when I’m done? I love using rinseless but still concerned that it’s not the safest method.

    • @Detailers-Business-Academy
      @Detailers-Business-Academy  3 роки тому +2

The ring is comprised of oils removed from the surface of the paint. The grit goes to the bottom. If you want to test, correct your hood to perfection, do not apply any coatings. Next wash your car once a week , one side with soap, the other with Rinseless. You will see the difference rather soon.

Quick question; with the new ultra mitt/sponge from The Rag Company described as being able to use for rinseless washes as well, would it be a good substitute for the UBS?

They are good, but not quite as safe as the sponge. Microfibre holds dirt closer to the surface.

My dear sir, congratulations on all those years providing excellent content and information for the detailing subjects, i admire you and your knowledge.
I have one observation in the foam cannon wash that i agree it is true ,that if you let the panels dry ,the dirt will stuck back again and you have wasted time and product, BUT i think that until..it dry out we have a time window witch if you touch the foam treated panel the dirt can be pushed off the panel far more easy VS the only water treated panel... inside the timeframe that is no dryied again.
And please can i ask...in my country we don't have many rinsless wash products and knowledge about them....but we have many rainy days and much chemical polutied and over polulated cities..so...we have much much ... traffic film from the roads.
How rinsless wash products deal with traffic film grease and road grime?
    My kind regards dear sir

do you refill your buckets with every wash? or do you use the same water with other cars. And the ultra black sponge do you keep it damp after every wash or have it in a wash bucket so it doesn't dry.

@@Detailers-Business-Academy actually what I have been doing for a long time now is using 4 wash mitts that I pre-soak in bucket of water. Use a foam Cannon for a pre-soak then rinse. Then I reapply some Foam and evenly divided the wash mitt usage up throughout the whole car. But I will definitely start using the no-rinse method. It makes sense to me
What do you think about mixing in some no-rinse with some Car Pro reset. Would it still help with the lubricity and would that be okay to do or good to do?

Lots of people claim that McKee's N-914 is vastly better than ONR. I'm a longtime ONR user, and I didn't find that N-914 was anything special when I tried it. Seems more like a diluted detergent, as opposed to a substantive polymer like ONR. Are the two products a completely different chemical makeup? I don't see any reason to switch, ONR does everything I need it to.

    • @Detailers-Business-Academy

Yes they are different and both accomplish their goal successfully, with ease. It’s never a question of one or the other, their both united against soap. Choose the one you like and rest assured you made the right choice.
