Are Caster Frame Swords Finally Good? | Destiny 2

Caster frames, for the few which exist, have received a buff to their heavy attack including improvements to its damage by 16% and reducing the amount of ammo consumed from 6 to 4. And with these changes and the best option so far being available in the Dragoncult Sickle there could be room for them in the meta.

The reason why the castor frames projectile is desirable (at least for me) is because of flexibility. All other heavy weapons (except mgs) typically have a hard range restriction: can't fire a rocket/gl to close or you'll blow yourself up. Linears get awkward when trying to land a crit at enemies in CQB and you can't damage anything outside a traditional swords swing range. Castor frames make great general purpose weapons in builds where the other two slots have highly specialised weapons, relating to the build or otherwise.
For the question between mgs or castor frames. I personally choose depending on the effective range the build is most likely going to be fighting at.

I agree with this, castors sit in that middleground where the general use gameplay loop feels better than the other options. I also just think they need more variety, if a caster frame is released with a stacked perk pool it will be genuinely good!

Not gonna lie I was pretty hyped getting a dragon sickle with double DMG perks. Gonna use it more know that I know its the same DMG

Only using light attacks? On an adaptive maybe, but on a vortex or caster? Nah gotta through in the 3 to 4 lights than a heavy, im still rocking my god rolled guillotine i got ages ago with sword masters, i do think they should make vortex frames cost 4 again but relentless strikes does exist already xD so i guess dont need it for that
Does seem that caster frames feels almost on par with how i tend to use vortex frame swords for dps so i see it as a win and a reason to finally use em outside ad clear n pcp
I got a slammer with attrition orbs and cold steel, which is such s fun combo dont think it beats the guillitine at all but cold steel is fun, does decent damage on the shatters

Caster frames I think are meta with the new exotic sword Ergo Sum.

Get the new stasis sword with attrition orb and one for all…it’s nasty but I would switch OFA for cold steel. Proc wolf pack rounds and enjoy the fun

@@isaiamontgomery6968 Apparently there is a bug with Ill Omen procing Cold steel with wolf pack rounds. A wiser and more consistent option would be an Ergo Sum Perfect fifth caster frame, combined with an Ill omen Whirlwind blade. Do with on any solar subclass with the Ember of Ashes and Lucent blade mods, and the damage rotation is simply Ergo Heavy, Ill Omen Heavy, and repeat. Ill Omen gets its maximum +30% damage buff with a single heavy, and will still be proced by the time you swap back to it, and Ergo sum will be igniting on every cast. I don't have this Ergo Sum sword yet, but my personal mission is to demonstrate that it will be a competitive special DPS option that outclasses things like WItherhoard and Izignazi's burden. It is just difficult because it has such a low drop rate. I've farmed perhaps 60 Ergo Sums so far with no luck.

@@VoidCommander808sounds familiar. Ive lost count how many swords im down now (maybe around 150-200) and ive yet to see even a perfect fifth roll. These things need better focussing. At least let us target the frame or the perk directly.

I'd say at this point in anything less than 6 man groups with gally and good rocket rotations heavy gls are the best option. A fair bit ahead of swords

They could do with a lil help especially because of the fact you have to be in melee range for the majority of them! Some more perk variety will go a long way too

Passive guard artifact should just v be standard. If you have a sword you get damage resist based on its guard stat. ​@DuqkD2
