I will describe the smell of this soap as a medicinal mixture, like for homeopathy in a pharmacy. Natural, not chemical, as if from a meadow. Lavender, valerian, pepper. I love the smell of this soap, a gift of nature. I was even luckier and bought the tallow version of this legendary German soap, in a light blue box (not dark blue). It's even better.) In the past, you could get the soap in a twisting, plastic travel case.
Speick used to be Tallow based, but current version is very good as well.

9:01 which do you prefer? Which hazel TTO, or an Alum Block? I personally use an Alum block myself.

Myself I prefer only the Which Hazel TTO, alum drys my skin, but it all depends on your type of skin, some have better results with only alum and other use both.
