Wow one year later and I have this combo. I looooove it. Especially with the new firmware updates on the R, it turned out to be a great system to use. Now I don't know what to do with my X-T4?.
I’m so so happy you put out a video on both the 24-70 and 28-70. I was on the wall with the 28-70 because I couldn’t find any videos that I could relate to with how I shoot portraits and weddings. After watching your videos I think I’ll be grabbing that 28-70 as my new primary lens. It’s a heavy setup but so was holding 2 5D IVs with grips and L lenses strapped to my shoulders.

Would love to hear your thoughts on using the Canon R vs Sony. Pros and cons, likes and dislikes, performance differences, etc.. love your videos Julia!
I would really love to make a video about that as well! I feel like I've used the EOS R enough times (as well as using Canon in general my whole life) to have a good idea to be able to compare them. I'll be working on that video soon 😊

Wow Julia, some of your best shots here imho esp @ 11:32. I have to ask what camera do you find the most pleasurable to use for weight, camera controls and menu? Thanks, Christian,
Thank you so much! I have really gotten used to Sony in the past couple of years, I love how all their buttons are completely customisable as well so you can change them to things that you regularly use and have them right under your thumb. I have a video about how I have my A7III set up on my channel too if you wanted to see :)
Spent some time with the R after the latest firmware update and I'm really interested in it. Shooting with the Sony A7R3 currently which is awesome but I really love the RF lenses coming out. Time will tell.
Always look forward to your videos! Question.. whats your opinion on “fly aways” like in shots 2:23 ? I personally look at it as natural but some photographers try to edit them away.. was wondering your opinion! Thanks
Thank you! I personally like them, I feel like it adds some life to the portrait and I don't like things to be super perfect for my photography. I would only get rid of it if I think it's really reallllllyyy distracting haha like maybe a bunch of odd strands across someone's face, or sometimes when it's really windy at the beach hair can get super frizzy at the top of the head, I would get rid of that!
How is the dust sealing on this particular RF lens? I've heard photographers having a nightmare with Tamron and Sigma's current 24-70 due to dust getting sucked in to the lens due to poor sealing on the extending lens barrel. To your knowledge, does the RF F2.8 24-70mm L have a filter between the extending barrel and the main barrel to prevent dust from getting sucked into the lens? Or in your extensive use of the lens, have you detected any issues with dust [long term use]?
Hey Julia! This was a great video :) I’m really interested in buying this camera, would you be able to give me a link of the exact camera this is and the lens?
Hello! Thanks for your little summary. I am looking to purchase a 24-70 2.8 and want a RF mount for my R6, my wallet says go for the EF and adapt it, everything else says "Treat Yo Self" lol Overall do you think it is superior to the EF version, worth the extra $$$? I am not a pixel peeper, but I do not like spending $$$ on old tech. Because the old tech ain't that cheap either.
Thank you! I personally would go for a mirrorless body at the moment :) Although since I shoot weddings I would go with the R6 instead of R as it has dual card slots which is important to me.
I've never used an EOS R but presumably, you can change the white balance in-camera to correct for the bushfire smoke stain, unless it's so bad that this is it doesn't matter what white balance you are at.
Yes of course you can change the white balance, I did but there is still an orange tinge even when the image is completely blue. We just had very harsh and very rare conditions to work with that day!
With the weird light from the smoke-filtered sun, it might help to shoot a Macbeth color checker and profile for the light; it's probably got an odd spectrum, as well as being warm.
I am planning on getting a new camera for graduation and after seeing this, I think I am going to stick with the EOS R. I have been debating on getting the a7 III. Although I say EOS R, I still am like but what if with the Sony. I love your videos and they are very helpful and fun to watch. Time to go look at your Sony videos haha! Cant wait for more content!
Could definitely see the low dynamic range of the EOS R on full display in the first location here. I would have expected a lot better detail retention in the shadows especially in the shadows on the model's face. The rest of the photos looked amazing.
@@juliatrotti it's all I shoot with, take a peek on my page on Instagram @tmpapime5. I think I may die of joy if you were to follow me. Love your vids.
Thank you! Yep I adjusted the white balance in camera on the day of the shoot but since everything looked orange in real life too it's hard to tell on the back of the camera. I like to get it looking "nice" on the camera for the day to show the team or my client or whatever, but then I do my proper colour adjusting on a screen indoors :)
Hey, thanks for sharing, I loved it! I’ve got a question, this lens has 2 version, the f2 and the f2.8, in your opinion is it really worth the extra money?
MPB 1 that’s true, I just realized that, but still I would like to know cuz I don’t feel like buying both, since it’s pretty much the same focal length
Do you realise that the F2 is a very heavy lens? It would replace a few primes. As to wether it’s worth it is dependent on how much you earn from photography and your style of shooting.
james jackson at that price range I think it’s very important to figure out if that’s really need, I work hard to buy these kind stuff, I like to ask option from these people that have taken pictures with those, to see they experience, I won’t buy something that cost a lot and will be just sitting in the shelf collecting dust, I do portraits and also videos. So I have to think twice to get something that will fulfill my needs
I do feel like the joystick is missing from the EOS R, I couldn't really get the hang of that slider button they have so I opted to just use the touch screen to change my focus point. On the A7III I really like using the touch screen for full body shots where the focus point just needs to be on the model's face, and then I use the joystick for close up photos where I need to move the focus point more accurately.
Always interesting..... I would like to know more about the settings regarding the focus..... As you nowadays seem to use more & more the back screen to compose etc.. Thumbs up from me !!
Thanks! I was using continuous AF and had eye AF on the majority of the time to see how it would perform with all the wind and hair flying in front of Chanel's face - really well it turns out haha And yeah when using mirrorless I just prefer using the live view instead of the viewfinder. I can't seem to get used to the EVF on mirrorless, and besides using the screen means less squinting for me which is bad for your skin 😅
I just bought the a7iii 2 months ago and now i really want this camera 😭 what would you say are things you love about the eos R that you would want to switch from Sony to canon
The A7III is an amazing camera though! The EOS R videos that I have on my channel I hired the camera just to try it out and to film some videos with it. The A7III on the other hand I bought and own 2 bodies as I use them for weddings/professionally :) I can't do that with the EOS R yet as it only has a single card slot.
Julia Trotti thank you for responding 💗 I guess my real issue is I can’t figure out how to get the camera to focus on couples faces on continuous shooting. I just feel like the focusing is the biggest issue for me, I’ve looked at a million different videos and for some Reason my focusing isn’t sharp. I mainly photograph with the sony 35mm 1.8 lens.
