Can someone please tell me what the hell a “pro” mirrorless camera is? Because high FPS and two Sd card slots doesn’t mean it’s “pro”. Media redundancy is great n all but if we’re honest with ourselves, how many times have we had SD cards that get corrupted? I’ve been shooting for years and it’s never happened to me. It really only serves the wedding photog. High FPS is really only needed for sports. I bet many folks who want a “pro mirrorless” camera don’t shoot sports but see a camera with 10fps and drool over it but will probably never use the feature to its fullest capacity. 30mp sensor is killer for a camera. The EOS R right now is on sale for like $1,799. For the price and what you’re getting with it. 30mp, 8-bit c-log, articulating screen, and probably the best battery life of all mirrorless cameras on the market right now. It’s a steal. There’s no such thing as a “PRO CAMERA” only a camera with more features. The photographer is the pro. Not the camera. Please remember that. It’s not the camera that makes the photographer it’s the photographer that produces beautiful timeless photographs with any camera that counts. But the first thing we all wanna know is “ooo what camera do you use” you can’t buy talent or skill.
Funny isn't it? No one cared that cameras only had one card slot for how many decades now? Then all the sudden a few cameras come out with dual card slots and some people swear they cant live without it lol. Like what have you been doing up until you got a camera with dual card slots? I think most everyone would consider the Phase One cameras to be about as "pro" as you can get. Aside from the brand new IQ4, they all have 1 card slot.
what is it like without the image stabilization??? I hope the results are not shaky??? I mostly do weddings and shoot a lot of fast moving subjects so doubting how it would perform without the IS... I own an EOS R as well and sadly my camera body don`t have an IS either
Who couldn’t make awesome photos with this model? Even a normal person with an iPhone could come out with incredible photos - because the model does everything on her own and looks stunning.
Well sure, but someone had to pick the model, pick out the outfits, find the location, organise a makeup artist, pick the right day and time of day, pick the right lens and camera for the style of photos you're after, pick the actual spots to shoot in in the location, give some direction to get the shots you're after, etc, etc. It looks easy because it's all set up and ready to go, but I put a lot of work behind the scenes to put these photoshoots together to bring some fun lens/camera reviews to youtube :)

Amazing Lens. I recently switched systems from Canon to Sony, but in my heart i’m still a Canon shooter....when they come out with a pro mirrorless this will be my first lens to go with it.
Ophelia De Beaufort which is interesting if you think about ibis actually beeing worse than specific lense stabilization. What will be interesting is a combination of both which we will get in cabins next body. What I also always find interesting is the fear of only having one card slot have you every known anyone where an adult card fails? Even if it would, you can usually still read the card so nothing would be lost. I think it’s a big misconception that second sd card slot is required. The only important thing is to not buy cheap cards
Love it!!, 4:40 nice lens!! You can also touch focus finger drag on the screen. Also if you upgrade EOS R Firmware Version 1.4 its will be as fast like Sony A7R3 eye focus.
I've been watching all your latest video where you take all the photos with your Sony and all of them looks good. Somehow I come across this video, and man, the Canon colors suits your style a little bit more from my eyes.
To be honest I haven't tried any of the prime RF lenses yet 😅 they are definitely high on my list of lenses to try out though so hopefully I will be able to do that soon!

Yes sony colour is shit... not to mention their lcds are so low quality... cant imagine how Julia can stand looking at sony's screen for her wedding photoshoot -.-
Hi Julia... I'm curious about the "video lights" you used in this segment. I have shot with the AD-200 OFC and liked it. What brand and size of video lights do you use? I would like to give them a try. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your experience with the EOS R Julia. Would you consider investing in Canon’s R system if a professional body with two card slots were available in the future?
hey Julia! I really feel like the sharpness on the RF lenses are not that different form what you would get from a mark IV and a good L lens (my set up) looks like you can pretty much match the sharpness of the RF lenses with the L lenses with a little bit of post process sharpnening, what do you think? Im a life long canon shooter and I want to jump from dslr to mirrorless, torn between the eos R and the a7Riii, I want to go down the sony route but i really feel like in the next few years, canon might eventually one-up and absolutely blow away sony with the eos R line, and I would hate to regret leaving canon!
EF lenses are far from the RF ones. I have had some of the best EF L-s (50 1.2, the 85 1.2, the 24-70 2.8 mark ii and the 70-200 2.8 mark ii) and they are great but the RF ones are just in another league. Is not something you can match on postprocessing since it's not just the sharpness, with the 85 1.2 EF vs the RF you will have way less photos in correct focus with the old one for example
Hi Julia, watching your videos (thanks of all, I'm your subscribers!) I noticed I can hear the sound of the shutter. Since I rarely use 1st curtain (or mechanical shutter).. probably I use it only when I trigger flash/flashes, I've one question: why don't you use electronic shutter? :-) Thx!
The reason why it was not focussing in dark light because you have to select an area focus zone af point to make it work. In that dark light even sony will not be able to find the way.
For me personally I would go for the mk4 just because of the dual card slots - I shoot a lot of weddings and client works so single slot is no go for me 😔 if that’s not something you need then the eos r is a great camera aside from that! I loved using it, would love to shoot with it again soon too.
@@juliatrotti Thanks for your insight....it does come down to what you're going to use the camera for mostly, which for me is street and travel photography. Although, despite the small size and nice aspects of the EOS R I still will probably go for a 5d MK4 because an optical viewfinder is just what I'm used to, and the the better battery life. I think so anyway... although my wallet may make the final choice. Thanks again.
There always is teh WiFi option to do real-time on-line or WiFi-enabled disk storage. That is what soem peopel do. That is actually even better than a second card, as it is off-camera storage.
I had this lens since the day it has came out and I have to say it's the best general purpose lens ever! Yes it's a heavy lens but large lenses is not an issue to me! It's basically 4 primes in 1 (28,35,50,and 70mm). IMO it's really time to put the 2 card slot issue to rest! Just get a GOOD SD card and you won't have any issues of a card failure! I have shot many weddings with the EOS R and have not or heard anyone said that they had had a card failure so far.
I got rid of my 5D3 and A73 for 2 EOS R. Main reasons is because of the RF glass. Bodies upgrade every year and lenses remain the same. My RF 50L and RF 85L is tack sharp at F1.2
It's definitely not a lens I would like to use for 10 hours at a wedding, but for an hour long portrait session it was okay! My arms only got tired in a couple of spots where I had to hold the camera up high for the right angle I wanted.
@@juliatrotti honestly I am still anxiously awaiting its arrival! I cannot tell you how excited I am! I have been wanting to go mirrorless for a while! Eye AF and object tracking got improved on newest firmware, maybe might help in servo under low light.. that said does the iso 12800 shot looks very noisy or is it normal to be that noisy?
Love the video. Watching a ton waiting for the R5 to come out. I passed on the R because of the single card slot, and after reading these comments... Wow!... I have never seen so many people so offended at the idea that two card slots is an important feature for many photographers.
Thank you and ahahah I know.. it's just my personal preference/what I need for MY photography - I don't ever want to have *that* conversation with a client/wedding couple 😅
We shot for decades without dual card slots and most of us were just fine. Ive only had one corrupted card in 15 years of shooting. Id never let that stop me from owning a camera. I bought the RP and sold my a7iii immediately, the RF lenses are that awesome. Sony has nothing that compares and the Canon skin tones and colors are far better than Sony's. The RF 85 f/1.2 is the best portrait lens ever made.
My arms hurt watching you hold it like that lol! The 28-70 is one that you have to use the view finder and have the camera close to your body. Also, the battery grip is a must have to balance the kit out. Ends up weighing the same as a mark III with a 85mm lens. Just feels heavier because of how unbalanced it is.
@Chris McM Agree she would be better off holding the camera to her eye & use the high res evf...holding the camera out in front is tiring, trying to look at the back screen with its glare & reflections is problematic & the image becomes smaller & not as easy to see the further the screen is from the face. I too like to use battery grips with all my cameras as it vastly improves the handling of the cameras when shooting verticals....interestingly neither Julia or the other high profile women UA-cam “photographers” use grips or lens hoods or flash or scrims or reflectors except On one occasion when Irene shot with a small reflector.
I own the lens and to be honest is impressive, my only complain is that after a whole day carrying it, you think about using it twice, I don't know you, but for me the issue is the balance, I have the grip and even with the grip, still feels clumsy to handle compared even with a 70-200 or heavier lenses, it should include a tripod collar for example. The EOS R itself is a decent camera but not suitable for full professionals(that doesn't mean that you can't use it as a secondary camera) or jobs that require extreme detail (the antialising filter hurts the final image quality, a lot). Not having IBIS was a big mistake, after using cameras with it, I can't find a reason why a photographer wouldn't want to have it. The need of multiple firmware updates to have a decent Eye AF compared with Sony/Fuji was another poor decision from Canon, future cameras will include that technology but still, they should have released a camera with 2 sd card slots and ibis (the initial release price was quite high imho)
I disagree with you regarding fine image detail. It captures noticeably more detail than an A7iii, so I guess you'd better criticise that camera too. I've seen so many side-by-side image comparisons between the 2 cameras, I think you're just sucking up to Sony. The Fuji X-T3 isn't even in the game. It's f/1.4 primes aren't as sharp as Canon's RF lenses. The Fuji is too noisy in low light, especially considering it lies about its ISO values too.
cooloox could you please elaborate why should I comment the image quality of a model that I didn’t mention in my comment and is unrelated to the video? Your response to me sounds like I were discussing with someone about the forecast in New Zealand and you enter the conversation mentioning what about the tigers in India.
Julia, can you do a photo shoot with a plus sized “model” that’s not an actual model. It would give people like me more ideas on how you would pose and more importantly interact with them.
i'm kind of like her, the flip out screen takes some getting used to because it's not inline with the body. In some ways, I prefer the pop out type screens that Sony uses (I'm not a vlogger)
I prefer using the live view mode instead of EVF. I had one card slot in my 5D2 but that was like 10 years ago now! As soon as the mk3 was announced I got one for the dual card slots as I had been getting into wedding photography around then, so it was a must :)
Michael Fox Is bet she plans to get there early instead of exactly on time, which is what plenty of professional photographers do, and serves the same purpose but in a way that actually makes sense.
There has been a recent firmware update that has upgraded continuous focussing mode - I wonder if that camera you hired had been updated ? Interesting video
Interesting to see a professional portrait photographer in action, the photos are beautiful .... I was surprised to see that you didn’t use the evf while shooting....
Keep in mind that low light performance is only in video. Try taking photos in that light and prepare for disappointment. Try this: on whatever camera you own, even if APS-C, shoot at say ISO 16000 and then resample the image in Photoshop to 2.1MP (roughly 1080p). Look how incredibly clean the image is. Compare it to the full res out-of-camera image.
Hi, Julia. Interestingly to know: in what program you process face (skin) models? Have you already made a video about how you handle the face (skin) of models? I recently became a subscriber to your channel, so I could miss something))) with presets for Lightroom for me, basically, everything is clear: a universal preset for all occasions does not exist, for each specific photo shoot you need to tweak something there, do everything under the mood of the picture))) So for me the theme of skin treatment is more important. And not to spend a lot of time on this processing))) I do not want to become a skeleton in front of the monitor screen)))
Beautiful photos. I like a lot the photos with one light source at the end. The model also knows how to pose. I never use the eye detection AF. Maybe i should but i feel it's not perfect with my omd em5 mark ii olympus.
Missing two cardslots is a reason not to get a camera? Seriously? The risk of hurting the bride by beating her up with this heavy lens is higher than a card malfunction to be honest ;-)
Hi Julia, great shoot! About the use of two sd cards: i was thinking the camera has Wifi, so maybe you can save your pictures also on a portable hard drive via Wifi for back up.
I use the EOS R and 5DS, recording to 3 or more cards, so that takes me to your "professional" wedding level, easily. Sony is great too. I have Canon glass, so opted for the EOS R because it gains even more shots than my several 5D bodies of several models, alone. This 28-70mm is a beautiful lens. I skipped getting one for the same reason I don't have a Sigma 105mm either. Just too big for my bag and lens configuration.
More than the camera - it’s the photographer’s skill in framing, lighting and direction that made the photos gorgeous. Great video, love your work!

that what I waiting for' Canon R .so just for image is it better than Sony A7mark3 no worry about 2 cards or fucous or ibs .I do have sony a7 mark3 but I always like Canon and I really want to buy and by Xmas they gonna be cheaper that way I want to know if it is better than sony just for photos not vedio .thanks
What an amazing camera and the lens is a dream. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Great shots and editing skill.
Thank you so much!
Sorry I'm late to the party on your video. How does the lens feel with no IS on the EOS R?
Eye AF and object tracking got improved on newest firmware, maybe might help in servo under low light.. that said does the iso 12800 shot looks very noisy or is it normal to be that noisy?
I loved this video! I'm thinking of buying one. where was this shooting? 🥰🥰🥰
May I ask which LED lights you were using?
The model is so beautiful
Is this lens sharper than the sigma 85 art 1.4?
which is better for taking pictures canon R or canon 5d mark 4 ?
melisa ersöz Sony A7-III 😉
Sven Evertz thanks :)

Julia, I wanna learn photography from you. What should I do now?
We have using one card slot for years and i never failed to me. to use 2 card camera slid doesn't mean ur Professional Boo!
I found it funny how she didn't like the flip-out screen! I just it probably more than I should lol. I just got an EOS R and I love it.
i'm kind of like her, the flip out screen takes some getting used to because it's not inline with the body. In some ways, I prefer the pop out type screens that Sony uses (I'm not a vlogger)
Why didn't you used the EVF ? And the one card slot was the same as your 5d mark iii so what's the problem ? :)
I prefer using the live view mode instead of EVF. I had one card slot in my 5D2 but that was like 10 years ago now! As soon as the mk3 was announced I got one for the dual card slots as I had been getting into wedding photography around then, so it was a must :)
@@juliatrotti are you also driving with two cars to your Photoshootings?
Michael Fox Is bet she plans to get there early instead of exactly on time, which is what plenty of professional photographers do, and serves the same purpose but in a way that actually makes sense.
Can you try out the fujifilm x-t3 in the next photoshoot ?
Is it possible to download the photos that you were taken from RF 28-70mm F2?
There has been a recent firmware update that has upgraded continuous focussing mode - I wonder if that camera you hired had been updated ? Interesting video
That R looks good on you.
Photographer's word when suggesting to it's model "Maybe"
Hi Julia, what camera and microphone do you use for your videos?
Vlog camera setup is on the description
@@PeacePham1991 Thanks Tran.
Julia gets some very pretty models for her shoots but none of them are as beautiful as the photographer herself.
I hope it was running firmware version 1.4 , I believe it was mainly targeted at greatly upgrading Eye AF :)
Released very recently
Beautiful color for sure but I ended up going with the Sigma art 24/70 and the image's are amazing.
Looks sharp.
A monstrous lens :D
Which one is favorite camera for taking portraits.?
What is the light setup? I'm looking to purchase one.
i'm simple man....i see Julia...i hit like
Where is that city? it's so pretty!
Interesting to see a professional portrait photographer in action, the photos are beautiful .... I was surprised to see that you didn’t use the evf while shooting....
Really impressed with the Sony A7sii Dynamic Range and the Beastly Low Light Capability.
Beautiful.. perfect...
When you realise Julia is prettier than the models everytime in everyvideo.. And always ❤️🌼😍
Did you upgrade to the latest firmware? I like the shutter sound more stronger than the RP!
About the use of two sd cards: i was thinking the camera has Wifi, so maybe you can save your pictures also on a portable hard drive via Wifi for back up.
the issue with that is you have to reconnect every time you turn the camera off and on
@@shigityshigityshwa Ok
Beautiful
I use the EOS R and 5DS, recording to 3 or more cards, so that takes me to your "professional" wedding level, easily. Sony is great too. I have Canon glass, so opted for the EOS R because it gains even more shots than my several 5D bodies of several models, alone. This 28-70mm is a beautiful lens. I skipped getting one for the same reason I don't have a Sigma 105mm either. Just too big for my bag and lens configuration.
The before and after of the shadow recovery was amazing. There was a lot of recoverable data in that black stripe across her eyes!
